Hi Pinkwizard, I'm glad you are going to CNR, it is a wonderful school. Make sure for each class you at least set aside a few hours each day for each class, to read and study. Especially for the accelerated program, it's important to stay on top of the reading in order to prepare for the exams and any required assignments. When I went there, each day I would spend at least an hour for each class either reading and studying. Also make sure to take breaks so that you could give your mind a break from the intense work. Don't listen to the negativity, just think about the ultimate goal which is you becoming a nurse and providing excellent patient care. I often had flash cards where I would put down important info for studying. I also absorbed the info through the lectures, reading the assigned chapters, and also studying/discussing the information with trusted classmates so that the information is reinforced and fresh in your mind. I know it may feel overwhelming but like I said if you listen to the negativity then you will do poorly, it's not as bad as you may think

I graduated last January 2010 but experience wise I am a new grad. The hiring process for me was fairly quick. I interviewed last Thursday and got a callback on Saturday. I start in mid-July.

I wanted to know if there are any nurses who currently works there and any who worked there in the past, that have any information on their orientation as well as how the work environment is? Hi, Congratulations on being accepted to CNR. It's a great school. My advice to you is to study, study, study some more. Make sure to read your books ahead of time to keep up with the workload. Also make sure when you complete your first med-surg, apply for an internship/externship because that's a guarantee to getting your foot in the door. Choose a hospital that you really want to work at and also apply to many facilities not just one. The tuition for CNR is expensive because it is a private institution. Per semester I was paying $12,000+, equaling my tuition to about $24,000 per year. I never room and boarded at CNR because I lived 15 minutes away. So I'm guessing with the scholarship you received, it would be $4000 per semester. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have anymore questions. Hi MaleRNin2010, I must say as well the current economic situation cannot go on, like this, forever. There is an overflow of new grad RN's with limited positions at hospital facilities. I would hope that by the summer and throughout the ending of the year, the economy will get better in the nursing industry. We have worked too hard to obtain an RN license to not be getting any type of job. I hope that something will come through for all of us who cannot even get out foot in the door. Also being that you have previous Emergency Service experience, you should apply with the ER departments; I don't see why they would not scoop you up for a positions. Good luck. aye125RN

That's so bad and I'm sorry you feel this way. I have graduated as well with my BSN and have been searching for 13 months, so to speak. I can honestly say I know how you feel. I have read other threads about hospitals in upstate NY especially Albany and Kingston NY that are hiring especially new grads. So you may want to try your luck there. Good luck and keep me posted. Good Evening everyone, I am a Medicaid provider and I want to see if anyone can help me with something. I want to get a private duty case on my own. I know I can go to Craigslist or hear it by word of mouth but there has to be another way. Has anyone tried obtaining a case on their own by calling hospitals or places like that? Congratulations on passing. I live in NY and when I took the NCLEX it was a tuesday and my name showed up on the Thursday. But sometimes it can take a little longer. My friend took hers the same day as me and her name showed up the following week. Aye125rn

Thanks. I emailed them my resume in September 2010 and I heard from them in late November for my interview and was hired on the spot. I was supposed to start my orientation in December but it was postponed until January 3. It is located in Ossining, NY.

Thank you greekisfun. While I was looking for work, I was babysitting and doing anything that I could do to stay busy. I was also applying to tons of jobs while trying to find a job. It was tough but I am glad I got my foot in the door somewhere. aye125RN

Hi everyone, I am considered an old new grad basically a veteran. I graduated January 2010 with my BSN and finally got a job in a nursing home. I took the job because I wanted the experience and no where else in NYC is taking new grads. I hope to gain experience so that I can still be able to apply to hospital positions and am able to put I have some experience. What is the likelihood that hospitals will take nurses with nursing home experience??? aye125RN
