Newbie to site! Excelsior student working on Chronicity!
I am working on Chronicity as well - test date is 10/29 and have just really started to get in gear. I find it kind of boring but wanted to get it out of the way!! Right now I am using Study Group 101 and the practice tests to get me through it all!

Passed Reproductive Health with a B tonight!
Congrats!!! I am scheduled to take Chronicity the day after you!! I wanted to take Repro but am having some difficulty with the financial aid and them accepting my financial aid for it so just went ahead with thr Chronicity instead!!

Transitions in the Books, finally!
I had the books but honestly, the material was so dry that I just couldn't use them. So I used the StudyGroup101 and the EC Practice tests. And I am definitely going to use every second of time I can while I'm not working. It will be very tight for us, budget-wise, but worth every second of my sanity!

Transitions in the Books, finally!
After rescheduling twice, because I was being a bum, I finally took transitions today. I studied for 2 days and got a B, so I am pretty happy with that! 6 more tests left to go! Recently I have resigned from my work in order to pursue school full time as well... have a few weeks left because I wanted to make sure everyone was taken care of before I left but I needed to focus on my exams 100% and I haven't even come close to doing that! Time to get ready to register for my next exams. Actually, I need to pay the registration fee first I guess.

Vegastar is an RN!
Congratulations!!!!

KY Excelsior students!
Tasha - I just have the nursing course left to go. Was supposed to start my LPN-RN last week at my previous college but thanks to the military we moved instead! So, I had all my pre-reqs ready to go and just have to tackle the fun nursing stuff!

Transitions is so boooooring
hahaha, I fell asleep too! I can't wait until repro but then ob/gyn is my main interest/career goal!

Transitions is so boooooring
I have study guide 101 and the text needed for the exam and omg, it is so boring. So dry. I think I am going to cry myself to sleep studying for this exam! Can't wait to read up on topics that are a bit more interesting than history and HMO/PPOs/Medicaid/etc.

Excelsior and jobs
Good luck! I actually think that my degree from EC will be more "earned" than sitting through 2 semesters at a local cc. Yes, I may miss out on labs but I am pushing myself a whole lot harder than I ever had to know the material and seek out training experiences. Wishing you the best of luck!

KY Excelsior students!
Tasha - my game plan is pretty much the same as yours. That is if I can get through Transitions, lol.

Transitions EC exam?
I'm scheduled to take this on 9/10. I have the SG101 and ordered the texts but man is it boring. Totally fell asleep reading the 101 notes and I expect the text to be even more exciting!!

How much time do you spend studying???
I wish I have been as diligent as you ladies but I haven't. I manage about an hour every other day - studying for H&S this coming weekend and then will push Transitions the next week. I am talking to my husband about quitting my job - financially it will suck for a bit but I am getting nothing done and am already stressed out to the max with my job. I mean so sad... my first year of nursing and I am starting to feel burnt out. My plan for once I've taken these two is to hopefully take 2 tests a month and get everything over with - which, if I'm not working, will give me at least 4 hours every day to get the studying done! Tasha made a great point to me earlier on and that was to really schedule out my time - has definitely helped!

MyCAA users and Excelsior
Yeah, I was going to take my time on actually enrolling but it looks like I will probably be doing that soon and registering for as many of the exams as I can (I had planned on trying to be done with all 8 by January anyways...). It is still a bummer because my hubby is about to pin on E7 so there is no way I can use MyCAA after they switch it up. I could rant on and on but really my intention for the post was just to let the military spouses/members using MyCAA get a heads up if they needed to plan!

MyCAA users and Excelsior
Just FYI, check out the new MyCAA guidelines. Not sure which rank your hubbies are but they just completely messed it up for me. Am trying to contemplate how I am going to get this done now.

ISU Clinicals - How'd they work out for you?
Ok, so I am scheduled to take my first test for EC on Aug 7 and am giving myself until the end of this week to make my final decision between ISU and EC because I know I need to bust out the CSMs really quickly plus the TEAS if I decide to go through ISU. I have already been accepted to ISU and have all of my pre-reqs done so the CSMs are all I need to do. The thing that holds me back from ISU is the clinicals. It isn't doing them, it is setting them up. I would absolutely love some feedback from current students in regards to their clinicals (particularly if you go into Savannah - I live in SC but need to do my clinicals in GA since ISU isn't accepted in SC yet). Specifically I would like to know: Was it hard setting them up? Does ISU help you get at least the contact people for the clinical sites/hospitals? How many clinicals did you do per semester, how many hours per week/etc. Did you find the experience valuable? Any other info would be greatly appreciated since like I previously mentioned, I am giving myself until the end of this week to make my final decision. Edited to add: Also, I would love to know how long the entire program has take you to finish (or complete so far!) Thank you in advance!

Calling all Military Spouses doing EC's Nursing Degree
I have H&S scheduled for 7/10, which was post-poned from late June because I hadn't studied and still haven't studied much for it. Trying to get myself motivated! I'm so torn right now between EC and going to ISU. I am worried because I am a new nurse (graduated 5/09 and have about 6 mo working experience) and missing out on clinicals. That and man do I just not have time to study between work, the boys, new house, hubby..... something is gonna have to give!! I am also worried about transferrability and not getting hired. I get some nasty looks out here when I mentioned EC though the schools out here aren't much to brag about! I'll figure it out eventually though, hopefully before I have invested too much money!

Calling all Military Spouses doing EC's Nursing Degree
I am a military spouse as well, USMC to be specific - just about to take the Health & Safety exam on the 18th (though I may bump it up a week... I honestly haven't studied at all since we just moved into/bought our house!). Sometimes I worry about the transferrability of EC but then I look at my other options out here and with a mortgage I can't really afford to quit my job to do a traditional program. So I am hoping to get this done ASAP and get my RN so I can at least get some experience in before we need to move again - we just moved to Beaufort, SC about 7 months ago so we still have another 3 years. I was worried about going back to CA as well but since my husband is a DI, we will hopefully get our choice of relocations and we are hoping to move to NC where I *hope* to be able to finish up my Masters. We will see though... I have all of these high aspirations but no time to really do much of what I plan!!

AASU LPN-BSN
I am a resident of SC (working on getting my GA license as well) and am curious about AASU and it's LPN-BSN program. I haven't setup anything with an advisor yet and I am still trying to get some info and would love some feedback from current students. I already have a BA with a 3.1 GPA and a 3.75 with my LPN education. I *believe* I have almost all of the pre-reqs that are needed but it all comes down to those world religion/etc. kind of classes and whether or not they would accept those. I am curious as to whether or not my past education may affect my ability to get in (since all of my classes were taken somewhere else) and whether or not my GPA is good enough to get in.... Aside from that, would just love some feedback from current students. How are the hours? The teachers - are they supportive, knowledgeable, that kind of stuff. How are the clinicals? Thanks in advance!

Good job!!

MyCAA users and Excelsior
I did as you suggested Felicia and sent the vouchers in this morning. Thank you so much!!! And Tasha, I was sooooo excited when I found out the the mycaa would pay for the Excelsior. Excelsior is definitely the best option for me and my family and since I am working as a LPN (and drawing blood, all the fun stuff) I believe that experience will cover the whole clinical thing.
-
Okay so now i'm FINALLY ready to begin the EC RN program...
Good for you Tasha! I too have mulled over the decision to join up at EC but just sent in to take my first two tests. I had hesitated when they stalled the MyCAA thing but since they started it back up again, I am pushing ahead! As for tips, I'm probably not the best to get any from - yet! - since I am just starting but I am making sure to schedule my tests so that I will be motivated to study!!

MyCAA users and Excelsior
A question for those using Excelsior and how to apply for the FA portion of MyCAA. Exactly what do you put down for the start and end date for your course? Also, I believe that I read about someone stating that you can email the FA voucher to Excelsior - which email is that? I am hopefully going to get a call into Excelsior tomorrow but figured I would ask around first! Thanks!

Excelsior Grads - Where are they now?
My husband is in the military and I am going the Excelsior route because I just cannot count on waiting to get into schools and such. I have the grades to get in but since I am working at the moment, Excelsior is perfect for me. Due to my husband's MOS I am somewhat able to predict where we will get stationed so I just recommend that you check the Excelsior site to make sure that your license will be accepted wherever you transfer. However, you can always work at the Naval Hospital or the VA. :)

How long does it take to get fulling enrolled to Excelsior?
Awesome, thank you!! I am definitely going to check those out. The thought of purchasing a whole new set of textbooks is somewhat daunting and I never once thought about just renting/loaning them through the library. Definitely going to go that route so thank you so much for suggesting it!!

How long does it take to get fulling enrolled to Excelsior?
Oh, I meant the studygroup 101 study guide. I downloaded the study guide from the site and am trying to figure out which books to buy at the moment - luckily, I already had the pharmacology book they recommend, whoo!
