  1. yeah i hope to specialize in cardiology since im already (well will be in few weeks) a cardiac tech, where i know telemetry ekg etc
  2. im currently in a tech program thats a "cardio tech" where i learn ekgs stress holster etc phlebotomy and i hope to get a ER tech job or pct, but im not taking a cna class tho and i hope this would be enough i live in philly
  3. im way more interested in cardiovascular studies, but i do have interest in dialysis, and i was there when my mom was going through it. i cant start my nursing program till spring of nxt year, so i was looking to get some skill now in meantime. thanks
  4. Hi all, i just decided to drop my question here in hopes for some insight. im a pre nursing student and i have finally decided to take up a program at this tech school down the street from me. im currently a waitress and i just had my 2nd kid, so with school, and kids, i need better income. i want no major distraction once i enter my nursing program. all that said, i have choice in learning the Cardiovascular Technican program (which will teach phelomboty, ekgs, stress tests etc) or Dialysis tech both programs are around 6 months and 13k(which i didnt think was that bad, thats one semester in my college) both pay around the same so thats not really my concern either. im more worried about demand. the school also has surgical tech and medical assistant, but im not really intrested in those. so ANY insight would be helpful, as far as job advancement, high(or low) demand etc im in Philadelphia PA sidenote: i wanted to do CNA but i have to pay out of pocket for the 4 week course and cant afford it.
  5. Hi all. I (finally) applied for Fall of 2012 at Aria! my teas is Feb 7! im so nervous cause i STINK at math (been studying tho) im currently in ccp taking ap 2 chem and diet 111. i hope we can use a calculator on the test. i just have to send of my reference letters (which im having issues with, im not personal with my teachers) im super nervous. good luck to everyone
  6. Thanks for the info. another option (but more expensive for me) is taking the CNA course, then doing this EKG/phelbotmy course separately. now the CNA course is $1200 but this EKG/phelbotmy course is $3000 at local CC (EMT-b training is also $1200) so i may do that and see where that brings me
  7. its 2 different programs in my area around same price and i kinda wanna do both only cause as I really wanna work in hospital (as opposed to nursing home) and maybe the EMT will help nudge me into cna/pt in a hospital setting, i have no issues working on an ambulance but i believe its more cna jobs. just want to be more marketable i live in PA(philly) do you think doing both is overkill (im a pre nursing student, will be in nursing school fall 2012) looking to get ANY medical experience(and pay) b4 nursing school (work at restaurant now)
  8. i was thinking of applying there. im confused with the Penn State classes, do we have to take then ON penn state? online? im confused? penn state is really expensive, and far. but i live close to Aria SON
  9. Im a RN nursing student, my gf (not close) is in a tech school for MA , when we talked about our schooling she was so happy that shell be done b4 me and be a 'nurse' i told her ill have my BSN in 2 yrs , she tried to convince me that being a MA was the way to go she keeps saying shes in nursing school, i try to correct her and she says 'same thing; scrubs dont make everyone a nurse smh:uhoh3:
  10. as a nursing student in philly this is disheartening to hear. i wish u luck i wanted my associates so i can be working while working on BSN (bsn requires SO MANY fluff credits)
  11. This is me!!!! and since we have to take that NCLEX i do agree that this habit would be bad. These are very good suggestions. hopefully when i start my core classes, ill be part of a study group as well.
  12. So i took my A&P and chem classes etc and i should start my core nursing classes in spring. i feel myself not really remembering what i learned in classes. is this a bad thing? has this happen to anyone else? the question is for current nursing school students... did you retain alot of the infomation you learned from AP Chem etc from the pre reqs? thanks for any info
  13. Thanks for the through reply. Good info.. Would you think overall MA's make more? (PCT has no salary info on salary .com and sites like it) i know it would be a guess. I actually dont want to do much clerical work. thats why i asked about PCT but i would like the overall better career,
  14. Are they the same? PCT and a medical assistant? i live in PA and i dont see many jobs for PCT but loads for MA any info would be great thanks
  15. curious, was this other nurse able to do the cath? disrespect sucks
  16. Yeah, i have indeed heard of Eastern, and its good program, i may end up applying there, i just live 5 min from the prism and it wouldve been convenient, and i live 20 min from eastern give or take, and the 8am start time is a lil inconvenient cause i have to take my kid to school, but i cant get any info from prism, even when they contacted me, they keep referring me to their Upper Darby campus, and the 'advisers' that are contacting me have no good info, red flag, oh wells
  17. Its an old post regarding Prism, but now im trying to find new infomation. how is the school? what are your hours? tuition? basically just any infomation would be helpful i would like to attend prism based on its close proximity to me, all other LPN programs are far. but prism is only school where i cant find any infomation online. thanks in advance
  18. Im in philly but i was looking into lincoln tech or prism for lpn how much is your tution for L Tech? thanks
  19. Hi im in philly too, where do you go?
  20. i keep saying i wanna do peds but i dont think i can handle children dying, its not all bandaids and cough syrup, im sure its something i would get use to, (death period id have to get use to) but children really sick and dying, no chance at them having a life, would just break my heart
  21. Thanks for that and i cant wait to start the program. Im not the typical person on outside that dont want to do the so called dirty work, but i hope i can control my gag reflex. hopefully in training , (the CNA program is all LTC) ill get all of it out my system (not literally)
  22. Thanks so much for the responses.
  23. in the fall i start my RT program (respiratory therapy) in the meantime i wanted to get a CNA certificate so i can be in industry 'i wait tables in resturant' now while i have no problem with the duties that entails im concerned that my stomach might not take it. im squemish but willing to overcome it. im not afraid to get dirty at all. that said, is 99%of being a cna, doing the so called dirty work? just askiing thanks
