I think that you have to have a GPA or higher. There is a possibility of trying but your best bet is to take one of your pre-reqs over and score higher. Thats what I did. I just took one of my electives not the science over English and scored an A which bought my GPA up. You can always call the school and ask they are very good with answering the phone and answering questions but I do believe you have to have a GPA 2.5 and higher thats a given. I am in my first semester of nursing. I was just wondering if anyone have anything specific that i should focus on for the exam. My first exam is tomorrow and i am trying not be nervous but its very hard. I am managing right now hopefully a good nights rest will do the trick for tomorrow morning. Since this is a whole new experience for me I want to make sure I get the whole experience and make it as easy as possible. So which classes did u pick. I picked Monday morning n a tues class n I go to clinicals on thurs and fri. What kind of communication are you trying to get started is it a group thing. I am a Medical assistant. Getting out of school is the problem they start you off with just 9 or 10 dollars an hour and sometimes they dont want to hire you with no experience. The only thing with that is the amount they charge for the program, for that much you might as well go into nursing. You learn just about the same thing and it will be worth it in the end. I am not knocking your choice because I also went through a Medical Assistant program but in the end I wish I would of just done nursing. If you can pass that then you can get through nursing it requires the same amount of study and the fact that you chose the health care field, as a nurse you will have more opportunities and better pay. So if its about the pay then you really wont see it until you spend a couple of years working and probably steady in one office and most of the time MA positions dont offer benefits. So good luck. But if you do go through the program see if the credits are transferable in case you decide to go into nursing in the future. You may also want to look into ultrsound, radiology or another paid well field in the healthcare field.

Is anyone familiar with Montgomery College Nursing program. I have been accepted for the fall semester and just trying to get as much information as possible. Tryingto make probably the most difficult time in my life less difficult. I heard nursing school is very challenging and I want to do well like everyone else. So I think this board is a start for me. Trying to get as much info as possible. So can anyone lend a helping hand with this. Any knowledge is better than no knowledge thanks.

Well seems like your dedicated. The good thing about pre requisites is that they have classes in the morning, afternoon, or evening that you can choose from. Another thing you want to keep in mind is that nursing is competitive but as long as you have the drive and determination then you will get in. I am not a competitive person and I know my GPA is not in the top ranking. So I applied to several and all colleges and I did get in. I do not worry about which school I go to as long as I get in because when they need nurses they do not stop and ask which school you went to. I have been in school on several different occasions I am now 30. Have a BA degree and Certificate in Medical Assistant and now I am back in school for nursing. Friends say I will be in college for ever and I just say well at least I know I will be learning forever and as they say you learn everyday. So do not give up and just make sure you do what you do for you. And as far as anything goes think about if you ended up all alone at least you have a career in the end something and didnt let time pass you by. Cause no one can waist your time but you.

If you can ace all your classes then do that but if you can not (like me)lol then if possible keep your options open. For me I looked at several colleges in my area rather all the colleges. I took the prereqs that they all had in common. If you ace all your classes and score high on the exam then you really do not have much to worry about. But if you have the option of looking at other schools in other states or couties that were about an hour drive then do that especially when your in a town with limited resources. I was looking high and low in states where I knew someone who would be able to help me out. But I ended up in a school that was an hour drive away. So just evaluate all the schools available and make sure they dont have waiting list if thats not a choice of yours. Cause I know that was not a choice of mines so. But then match the requirements up along with the deadlines and then make a choice. They are all pretty similar with the A&P, Microbiology, Chemistry, Math, English. You also want to find out which classes they use the GPA for because many colleges are just using the science and math classes to add the GPA so if thats the classes they are using then you wanna ace those classes. Good luck it is a job trying to get into nursing school. You also want to make sure you speak to the nursing faculty only when you do call for info because so many different information you might obtain which may not be right. And collect names when they do in case you need to refer back to them.

Well I guess once you want something no matter how hard you try to leave it behind it will always follow you. I have been in school for several years. First I completed a Bachelors degree and then I went for Medical Assistant and now after all that I was back in school taking prereq in my science courses for nursing program. The only advice I give is to make sure all your prereq are done before applying, make sure you check all the schools in your area and their requirements, so that gives you more choices, make sure you maintain an A or B in all your math and science courses, and make sure you have copies of all your official transcripts when you apply to the other colleges, make sure you check the deadlines for all the colleges. Its just so many students and so little seating especially if you in NY area then your exam score needs to be high, as well as your GPA. But don't get discouraged cause I am not a competitive person and I got accepted to a nursing program but again I do not live in NYC and I applied to about 4 schools. So I am excited but if its meant to be then it will be. So good luck and don't turn back even if you do not get in the first time.

Well like alot of people, you hate math, I hate math as well. The funny thing about school that I learned is that if you stick with it and work with it, it would work for you. Your problem is you keep running and if you stop for a minute and realize that you can run but you can not hide then you will learn to overcome those fears and face reality that no matter what you do you will need to face the facts that some things you just can not hide from. I understand what you mean about schools not teaching or you did not learn anything because believe me you I was in college for four years and learned absolutely nothing except from this one teacher and that was at the end. So I really understand you but only you can face your fears. And like mentioned above all colleges have tutors and better yet most colleges some professors even have a study time for you to set up an appointment and have them go over it with you and only you. I do not think it is the class I think it is more of the students. Because for me it is having to put my hands up in class and ask questions. So do not be afraid to get one on one help to pass the class. Good luck

I took the teas and it was basicly easily depending on how long you been out of a certain class. For instance the math and science is probably what got me. I also got pretty low but passed on the english portion because of the psychologicalness of the questions. But it was fairly easy just brush up on the basic part of math and basic science biology rather and you should do fine. I think each school have a different exam by the way. But if you get the book and study that I believe it is pretty much the same format cause a friend of mines had the book and she did very well. Good luck. Nothing to stress over just make sure you answer more correct than wrong.

Thats a nice format starting early. I am trying that so far not so good. Its difficult to get out of the habit of studying to jump into the habit of studying so good luck with that. Cause believe me you we gonna need it

Well I can sympathize with you cause I felt that way. If it makes any sense you can look in areas that are within a hour and a half drive from you at community colleges and so forth. Another thing that will pass the time is getting into the healthcare field if your not already meaning look at EMT program, Medical assistant program, Phlebotomy course, EKG tech course, or CNA course. At least that way your foot is in the door and by the time you realize your time is there and you will be familiar with the healthcare field and already established somewhere especially if you get in a hospital. I was in your same position taking prerequisites and not being able to apply and every school wanting something different, as if the classes were free. But I ended up taking a medical assistant program and now work in a hospital part time and now I am accepted to a nursing program that starts in the fall and that is after applying to 6 colleges in the area and outside the area. But I was also willing to travel outside my state or even live in another state where I knew someone, anyone just so that I can apply to colleges. So if you can do that go for it. Its does not hurt to apply. So good luck but dont give up time flies when your doing something positive. And what you want is worth waiting and working for.

Well when applying to nursing school that is a job in itself. I took off work when I began applying to the nursing programs for the simple fact it takes up so much of your time. I have a BA degree and I had to only take science courses which bought my GPA down. But what I would suggest is to look at all the colleges in your area and see all the pre-requisites that they require and then apply to the ones that most likely would accept all your prerequisites. You have a better chance of getting in if you apply to several colleges instead of just one. I applied to 6 colleges in my area and got accepted to two. The criteria for some of the colleges are changing where they are only looking at your math and science courses overall GPA. The rest of the classes that they require are not being added into the GPA. For the schools I applied to, two of them only averaged my science and math classes which made my GPA on the low side. But you might really want to sped your time looking at several colleges instead of one. As mentioned sometimes its the luck of the draw and others it is the highest GPA and the passing of the entrance exam. So with so many applicants and so little seats available makes it difficult. To me it is a funny request (to provide an envelope and a stamp). I think that since they run a school that is part of the daily routine to mail out transcripts. On one hand I understand and on another I don't for the simple fact who walks around with an envelope or a stamp and who expects to have to run out and purchase one for a school. For that much they should have a system in place where you can just pay them for the envelope and stamp. And for the simple fact it is cheap but having to go out your way to go purchase one is questionable. I would have asked to see something in writing about the procedures on mailing out transcripts. But speaking of transcripts you might want to collect a few of them now for later cause it only gets rough when applying to colleges. I had to get my transcripts from several colleges and it was rough for instance. My initial college did not charge me for the six official transcripts I requested I only had to fax a form in with the name of the school and address. The second college I had to pay six dollars per transcripts and not only I had to pay, but then I had to come back the next day to pick it up after 12pm. Not to mention one time I requested it to be mailed to my house and that took a whole week and a half and the college is 8 minutes away from my house. I went up there and they said it takes 5 business days to process before they send it out. I still do not understand that but whatever and ended up paying another fee to get it right there that day cause I told the staff that I needed it for that day and she processed it so I still do not understand why you have to pick it up the next day any other time. Then I requested transcripts from the third college and I can not really complain I paid three dollars and recieved my transcripts same day and time. But everyone is different and as they say you get what you paid for. So just in case you might just want to collect a few to keep on hand because I am sure the procedure is bound to change in the future. Good Luck

Congratulations on getting accepted I too have been accepted to nursing program in MD what I seem to have done was purchase some books and trying to start reading. Have not fully worked yet (LOL). But I started a fundamentals of nursing book. The best thing is to learn the key terms in each section to better understand some things. I am trying to find a study habit that works. Well some of the books are also online for dirt cheap. So I would also try there so just in case you dont really need them you would not have wasted that much money on them. Especially when buying them used thats the best thing to do. Search the web engines for cheap textbooks and there are alot out there. some are www.valorebooks.com, www.collegeswapshop.com, www.affordabook.com, www.cheapcollege.com, and you have amazon and barnesandnobles books used so thats what i would recommend especially since you start school in the fall. well i start my nursing classes in the fall and i started looking for my required text online. i did purchase one of my science books online for 35 dollars and the book was in great condition. so if you really want to save some money look on www.cheapesttextbooks.com, www.half.ebay.com/textbooks, www.valorebooks.com, and i am sure you can find others but they are really cheap if you purchase them offline or even barnes and nobles used or amazon used. because you barely use some of them. good luck
