  1. A computer picks 3 random skills. Then you peform the full skill.
  2. When i complained about patient neglect.. I GOT FIRED! nICE HUH??
  3. I'm a CNA and have my med tech certificate. I live in Fl. I can still be a CNA
  4. I got my CNA license in march and worked here and there. My goal is hospice. My mom was in hospice a year 1/2 ago. With hospice, they all want 1 year exp here in fl where i am. I would love to work in hospice just hard to get in
  5. I'm from fl and wore my scrubs. You don't have to though. Yes crocs is fine with socks and white sneakers. Who wears nursing shoes anymore??
  6. STUDY STUDY your 21 skiils and know them by heart! I freezed during mine and i thought i failed even though, i knew them all. I had the easy ones feeding, positioning, and urinary measurement. INFECTION CONTROL IS IMPORTANT! That saved my butt! I did used infection control on all 3 and i passed Got my license in march. Still having a problem finding a decent job
  7. you need to practice more than 2x a week. I practiced every day
  8. 20 patients yourself??? That's way too many for 1 person
  9. I would really check into that. I can't imagine that happening in class!! If so, look for another class!
  10. Free schooling throught a hopsital? GO for it! The salaries do suck and yes, in certain states you can make 7.00/hr. But PCT you learn phlebotomy and EKG so, the pay should be a bit higher than a regular CNA. Go for it
  11. There isn't much training where i am. 2 places have phlebotomy training and it's too expensive. I will not take a PCT course and learn all about CNA when i am a CNA.
  12. we had to wear scrubs with my CNA class in fl
  13. Here in fl, you learn phlebotomy and EKG that makes you a patient care tech NOT just a CNA
  14. I'm by daytona area in fl and same thing here. But, i see they aren't hiring as many CNA's anymore but. PCT ( patient care tech ) Flagler hospital in St Augustine, ONLY hire PCT's now no more CNA's. I applied but, i dont' have phlebotomy which you learn as a PCT. It's ahed finding a job
  15. I had worked for an agency it was my 1st CNA job last year. It was ok i had a 12hour shift 3 days a week for a couple. It does get BORING bring a book! Then i worked in LTC i had 12 patients shadowed someone for 3 days that was it. I freaked when i had 12 patients to myself. You are extremly busy! But, i liked it. I am looking into an agency job again
  16. In the real world you won't be using your skills the way you are taught. There is NO time to do ALL the steps when caring for 8-12 patients in a facility.
  17. Did any of you have to take a TB to get hired? We didn't have to when i lived on the west coast of florida hernando county. Here on the east coast every facility and agency need a TB test what gives?
  18. I thought i failed my test here in florida back in march. I had ALL easy ones. Feed patient position patient and empty cathiter. All FREAKING EASY!!! I BLANKED OUT! my mind had brain farts!!! How can i screw up any of those?? I did!!!! I still have NO idea how i passed! I think what saved me was i didn't screw up on any infection control
  19. When i wore my mask it was with patients who harldy even knew their own names and were barely lucid. If i was a resisent and a CNA put a mask on for me.. i wouldn't be offeneded in the least. Some smells are just to horrible to not use something to cover up the odor. I don't mind cleaning up a patient it's my job ( when i get a new one ) My job doesn't mean i should be objected to "dealing" with something unpleasant and not making myself sick in the mean time.
  20. i have and reported patient abuse and I... got fired nice huh?
  21. Most patients don't bother me. Some were not changed for hours and that wasn't my shift it was the shift b4 me. Many patients had C.diff and the smell was REALLY bad.Th urine is the worst when not changed it's a mixture smell of all day urine no peri care and amonia smell all in one. I can't explain the smell but, it's the foulest i have ever smelled. Believe me you would need a mask
  22. Does anyone wear masks when changing briefs? I had a conversation with my LPN friend and she said NO. I said why should i have to smell something so bad at times. There are times the BM is soo bad i would gag same with a brief all full of urine for HOURS. It smells sooooo BAD!! I gagged many times and almost threw up! The facility i worked in did, allow masks. I wish i knew that while working there
  23. That's terrible for NJ since the cost of living is way too HIGH! I can get the same salary here in Fl
