FCCJ SPRING 2010
Thanks SaraW88 but I haven't started yet I am considering starting fall or spring. If I do 2 classes a term that will take 5 terms I really want to do it faster than that but maybe that's not possible.

What was the MOST ridiculous thing a patient came to the ER for?
these are just a few... patient: "i need a bullet removed from my leg." nurse: "when did you get shot?" patient: "5 years ago" nurse: "is it bothering you? patient: "nope, i just want it as a souvenir." 87 year old man "i broke off a crayon off in my pee hole" it seems that older men like to do this because i have seen a lot of weird things used. "can you help me, i have a light bulb stuck in my rear and i think it broke" i am not a mother but this seems a bit extreme. early morning a mother brought in 2 year old daughter because she spilled "murphy's oil soap" on her arm and mother washed it off the night before. "i just want her checked."

Wearing Gloves When Taking Vital Signs?
i must say i was curious when i saw this thread as to what people thought. as a patient i haven't been to the er in sometime but i did go to an urgent care facility last week and it was probably a medical assistant and not a nurse that took my vitals but she did it without gloves and as i was sitting there i thought it kind of unusual. after she left it went through my mind... who else has she touched without gloves and if she doesn't wear gloves is she careful to wash her hands? probably not! then she came back into the room to do a monospot and tried to prick my finger without gloves at that point i kindly asked her to out them on. as a patient and as someone considering nursing as a career i think you should always were gloves when having contact with a patient especially in an emergency situation!!! why would you want to catch or transfer something that could have been easily prevented by simply putting on gloves.

FCCJ SPRING 2010
i need some advice please... i wanted to ask if anyone had any advice for someone starting out. i have a full time job so my schedule will be part time and i haven't been in school on 12 years. so any advice about prerequisites, general education classes or professors (good or bad) would be appreciated. how many classes can you do part time? do classes require a lot of outside class time? (studying/projects) i spoke with someone at fccj and they said you have a better chance of getting in if you do all of your prerequisite and general education classes before applying to get more points plus it's harder to do them once in the nursing program. i have been in the medical field for 15 years so i have a lot of medical knowledge. i know which classes i need but i don't know how many i can handle at once. of course i want to do it in the least amount of time but i don't want to sacrifice my grades by doing too much at once. if i have figured it correctly i would need 10 classes before applying. (including general ed classes for extra points) chemistry human anatomy & physiology i human anatomy & physiology ii microbiology college algebra english comp general psychology humanities human growth & development intro sociology i know everything is subjective however i would like to know your opinions and experiences. how long did it take you to complete pre-reqs? did you complete all pre-reqs and general ed classes before applying? which classes did you take online? i see on preious posts that it says not to name professors but if you wouldn't mind private messaging me on that topic it would be appriecated since the difficulty of the class sometimes has to with the professor. well sorry for the long post and lots of questions but it's kinda scary thinking about going back to school after all this time. oh one more thing... is this informative session open for everyone? if so, when and where is it? thanks a bunch everyone!!!

FCCJ Summer 2009, anyone?
first of all thanks flmomof5!!! i know i have a bunch of questions...lol. yes, you beat me! it's kinda scary going back to school after all this time! they told me you have a better chance of getting in if you do all of you general education classes as well as the pre-reqs. because you get more points and have a better chance. plus it is harder to do the general ed classes once your are in the nursing program. i know it is different for everyone but what classes would you consider "tough" and which ones "easy"? if i have figured it correctly i would need 10 classes before applying. (including general ed classes for extra points) *chemistry (because it's been more than 5 years) *human anatomy & physiology i *human anatomy & physiology ii *microbiology college algebra english comp general psychology humanities human growth & development intro sociology it was my understanding from my conversation yesterday that the classes i listed with *s can not be taken online. if this is right and i did 2 classes each term that would take 5 terms before i could even apply. i would like to do it in less time. are online classes any faster or easier? they way they explained the quality points to me yesterday was 50% grades / 50% nat. your pre-req grades get multiplied by 5 and general ed by 4. (a=5 b=4) and 20 points for medical experience. anyone know what the total number of points possible is?
