  1. emag, I dont know how much time you have to pass the reading section, but if you can get to this site and go to the areas that apply , this might help. I got a passing score second try doing this..and I did aweful the first time as well... http://www.townsend press.com remember when you get a concept down, practice timing yourself.I hope this helps. This is an all english site
  2. I Passed my NET and HESSI and I turned in my Application completed and was told I was first 1st Interveiew for a spring 2010 spot.Asked what My chances were of having to wait out more than this semester..and she said.."I dont see any chance..We save a few spots for PN to RN advanced entry students, and so far youre IT ) * dance dance
  3. CardioMadeline, Love to know where you work:O) *wink..Am glad for you ..nice to hear a good report. Mabey I just come from a different mind set..If I hire on with a company and they offer a certain amount to me...and I am happy with it and can make ends meet...well...raises(for me) are icing on the cake...a recession requires the understanding and tenacity of every professional across the board. So we give up a few years of goodies and keep our jobs.??...7 families have moved out of my neighborhood this year...not for good reasons..they lost their homes. Their Jobs..Their savings. Some sent children with relatives to live. Is heartbreaking.I cant say I dont scratch my head when the hospital can play fix up but cant pay cost of living increases...and like I said...I think the sacrifices should be across the board.CEO'S and all.But I can only answer for myself. If I love my Job...and my patients..and working conditions are safe and fair..then raises can wait until people can afford to feed their families and pay their necessary bills. Its only my opinion..I like raises too...But I guess growing up in poverty changes some people see things....as well as seeing people you KNOW are good employees..HARD workeres all their lives, even nurses," shopping" at the food banks, and praying for a miracle to save their home.If I did get a raise in this hard time...Id like to think I would live exactly the same..and increase my hand up to those who are barely scraping by. ....I hope I would, God Help us see the bigger picture.I dont claim to be politically wise..Nor Do I even think I am all that different than most people.I think If it came down to it..most nurses would give up extras to help a friend or family member.mabey even a stranger..who is struggling but really trying to keep their bills paid. I just dont let myself get caught up too much in money.ALL my life, when things were hard, God made a way for us, now , when times are tough for everyone?By HIS grace and provision, we can do the same.
  4. I am so happy for you !!!***clap clap I just put app in for PN-RN and have a spring 2010 spot..but want to do a bridge to BSN program..any chance you know how long pre requisites like anatomy, micro etc are applicable before they have to be retaken?
  5. Work and play, Are you saying that if I get my RN next year..and try applying for a BSN I would have to retake anatomy and physiology If it is 10 or more years old? (its jsut about at 11 years right now)
  6. dreamer, I thought of something that would have helped me with the NET.When you do the english review questions..try reading the passage and really paying attention and then covering up the passage and trying to answer questions.Or read articles and then turn page over and begin to write the main point, inferences that can be drawn, Style of organization( time list ets.) see if it helps.
  7. The exam is taken on a computer screen with scratch paper to use to figure out stuff. No scantrons.READ ALLLLLL the directions carefully and pay attention to your work.Go at a steady quick rate. But do NOT panick There IS enough time for them all.And even if you get shut off..sometimes the ones you got were enough. By the way..I heard in my school they only require 51 % in math, and 61 in english.SO if you got a 61 ( on the NET ) you might be fine.I sure hope so. The hessi Is like the Board exam.Same kind of questions.Med math.( covers math requires ments) ALL relates to nursing. But you ahve to know your stuff. hope this helps YOU CAN DO IT! Like I said..I studied MUCH more than I came in here or anything else.I started early and ended late.I did it til I felt I had as much of the INFO as I could get..and was getting 90-100 on most of the practice exams..most of the time.ALso..Bookmans has a viual pictoral Qick review for Anatomy and Physiology.Great adjunct to ANY nursing test or class..a quick brush up will help ..and if you suck at it..then it will walk you through the basics.use notecards. And quiz yourself.Or have sig.other do it for you...is well worth the time.
  8. Heres a few tidbits ..you will need a set of calipers.I found mine at office max.Invaluable when it comes to measuring your ekg strips.Sure dont know what Id use a protractor for except straight lines..and a ruler would be better.Preferably a vinal sewing one you can alcohol off..to measure belly and arm circum. I always bring a few goodies from uniform store..ie..small bottle shoe buffer for those with leather whites..cleans off scuffs.A small things of wet wipes and alcohol hand wash for moments at school...ie coffee spilled on shoes..blood splatters on lab day(IV class) ets. For you ladies ..depending on age..a few panty liners and clean set of underwear..as well as some ftd are nice for those "suprise visits" as well as for those of us who are older and pee every time we giggle too hard.ROFL. I really love this site. BTW.in case I didnt mention it..I passed my net and hessi and am in data bank ..for spring 2010.Was first to get on list for my school of choice. SO I am taking pharm this semester and working.Also..got a nice little safe ,new, car for first time in my life (no payments.!)We saved and pinched and drove hand me downs..OLD ones. Got our children grown and into their cars and college..and now have a granddaughter AND a new car..and .oh ya..I also got a job ) This is not a brag fest. We worked hard and long and prayed the same..and If you knew us and our life you"d know the miracle that all this is for us. We are so Grateful to God, believe you me!! ) ) OH yes..one more small hint..always have some money in your bag in case your well planned lunch and snacks get left on the counter as you race blurry eyed out the door in the AM after an all nighter. Have a great day folks
  9. ( typo again("Not at All too difficult to do".).sorry ...I need to just say no to caffiene
  10. oops..english and math are paramount...( typos) afterwards..not wars... sorry im doing two things at once here:O) BTW..folks..I just nailed the hessi the net and application is in..and I have a spot already in spring 2010. Praise God..and my first new car.( i am almost 50.....my old bannana boat was totaled)with NO payments.. for HALF the price..!!...all things are possible..pray for guidance and direction....work hard ..make good choices..and then thank God for his answers.....thats my motto..
  11. Big billy, there is a site I am going to give you.If you are in any way marginal with english inferences, main points, main idea, punctuation and such this is GREAT with lots and lots of questions to go over and over . ALso..theres a NET paperback..not expensive..covers basic english and good math review..just up to basic algebra. If you have had no science..the NET seems to now have more science and a&p Chem stuff on it. Any of the quick test prep review questions are very good for net typs science stuff. But the english and the Math are paemount..make sure you feel good about them. web site is www.townsendpress.net The english rellay can be bad if you dont practice your speed and retention, and be able to understand the topics listed in this web site. But also..dont just focus on one thing.STUDY WELL ROUNDED..every day...be repetitious. The NET consists of 30 math in 30 min one minute to show your reading rate..and comprehention of the passage afterwars. Reading comprehension 33 questions in 30 min..and it IS times and WILL shut you off if you pass the time.so practice relaxation with your speed. Written expression 30 min Basic science 15 minutes..about 15 questions then several sections on learning style test taking skills and handling and recognizing stress in your life. these are generally not graded sections But my best advise..as I am dyslexic and passed with a wonderful score....is dont let yourself lax off and study every day...its not as easy as it first seems...but NOT at asALL too difficult to do. Best wishes and if you dont mind..my prayers are with you
  12. Daisy, You sound like you are on the same course I am.I have Pharm and the NET to finish this fall...Thanks to God and a lot of help and review I really did well on the HESSI LPN exit exam...so I am tentativly in for spring 2010..associates science RN..then taking short break and doing RN-BSN tract.SO excited for you( and me too)..) Hard work, faith and believing in myself have gotten me a long way.LONGGGGG way.But that is not for public forum..I want to look like super nurse in case any program directors are watching in here..ROFL(just kidding) Im dyslexic..am 48..and when I was in elementary and High School..just thought I was for sure an idiot. But had educational testing done in my mid 20s..and found out that I had ADD and dyslexia( and dyslexia does not mean DUMB).Its just a visual perceptual thing...and there are ways to teach youself to work around it.I never took ritalin or any meds for add..I just changed my study habits and study environment. Then found out my youngest daughter had the very same thing and she just graduated with honors in elementary education, and is going for her Masters in special education. My Eldest graduated with distinction, presidential honor roll, with an associates in english and a general education associates. My youngest always told me.."if YOU can do it mom..I can do it too..we can do ALL things through Christ ..who gives us power and Love and a sound and well ordered mind"...what a kid..yes? Disabilities dept has been wonderful support. They are very helpful within reason of course..Their Job is to do whatever they can to give you the same opportunities as anyone who doesnt struggle to read or see or walk. And they have certainly done that for me.as all I really need is a quiet room..a little extra time to check my transfer of words and numbers from work page to answer columns. And they offer a tape recorder so I can review lecture (as seeing things on the board is not my forte")They also had an AWESOME tutor who got me through college algebra..whos brother was dyslexic.SO..as you can see..God has had my back all the way..so I give him the proper respect and thankfulness.....I have found that when My ego pops up..and head swells so big I cant get it through through the door..all of a sudden I end up fallin on my fanny and eating some humble pie:O) Sorry to talk so long.Just got a little bored with the studying english inferences and styles , grammer and such..so needed a break.( and you know how some of us gals LOVE to talk:O)CONGRATS 2010 students.Keep yer eyes on the prize!! I started by getting a GED..and took one class at a time until I was convinced I could handle 2..then 3...and then got my LPN.worked several years in house pool..and now have finished all pre and core classes except pharm and the NET entrance exam.and like I said..I was SMOKIN on the HESSI ..and I owe that FIRST praise to God..then to all you helpful folks..and I will stop there. 2010..here we come! ( if its In Gods best time) I do the work..and let him take care of the rest.
  13. Side note....how do you guys do those cute little cartoon thingys ..I always lose my post when I try to add them
  14. BTW..I am dyslexic..and I forget to use my tools when I am excited...so sorry for the typos
  15. I must have done something wrong..I dont see my post.So heres a redo. CONGRADULATIONS!! ) dance dance!!!! Wish I could be there and jump up and down and squeal with you and do da dance. No one at my house but me and a cat...and hes lookin at me like im a nut.Im just squealing outloud..so happy for you!! .Ever read that bible verse"even the engels in haeaven rejoice when one soul is saved"? Well I must be part angel (kidding) cuz I get more worked up over others succeeding at there goals than I do at doing well on mine:O) hehe BTW..I passed the hessi , taking NET aug 3 and then am taking Pharm this fall and have a tentative spot for Spring 2010..(have to pass pharm and Net before entrance is official) but enough about me.. Time for YOU to SHINE.SO SHINE ON ..and all my prayers and best wishes for a fun and successful semester are with you..if thats ok with you.GREAT JOB!
