  1. Has anyone already gotten the letter to register for that? I thought I had it by this time last year.
  2. BANY, good question - I had assumed so since there was one last year. I emailed Dr. Leib, but her out of office message is up. When I get something, I'll let you know. And Rosemarie21883 is right - UoP doesn't have it. Shoot, I'll go Gantham too if Villa doesn't offer it this winter.
  3. Hey guys, Since there seems to be some interest and it's a convenient tool, I created a Facebook Group called: Villanova BSN Express 2011-2012 if you're interested. There's a message board which could be helpful for finding roommates or just trading info.
  4. Congrats on getting in, guys! Melly23, I would assume that the 34k applies to out of state as it is a private university.
  5. Congrats on getting in!
  6. bleemme, I have no idea. Admissions might know.
  7. I grew up near area and the Main Line is a pretty posh, safe place. It can be kind of pricey, so depending on your finances, you might want to rent an apartment with a roommate or two. If price is an issue and you're willing to commute a bit, your options will open up - especially if you take the R5 train (the station at Villanova is within walking distance of the campus). Just taking a quick look at: http://www.myapartmentmap.com/colleges/pa/villanova_university/ I would say that all those offerings are in pretty good areas. Craigslist is another option - there are a lot of students in a small areas, so you shouldn't have too much trouble finding something. A fair word of warning about Route 30 - traffic is bad in the mornings and evenings during crush hour and based on the schedule I've seen for the nursing school that's when our classes will begin, you have to decide if cheaper rent is worth the commute (and back in '02, there was always a nasty bottleneck around Villa).
  8. Congrats on your acceptance!
  9. Villanova offers Pathophysiology online for students who've been accepted to the ABSN program. It might be an option that will help ease you into the expectations of a Villa class. You would take it the winter after you've been accepted.
  10. I shot you a PM. And yes, Dr. Lieb seems to be very supportive of candidates. If the rest of the faculty are anything like her, I think I'm really going to enjoy my time at Villa.
  11. Don't panic and be yourself. My interviewer was very friendly, very easy to speak with, and I would say that this was the easiest interview that I had. Just think of everything that you bring to the table as a future nurse and stay confident. Specifically, I remember being asked why I was interested in nursing, what my previous employment experience had been and how it might help me as a nurse, and whether or not I was financially prepared for the program. Also my game plan for knocking out the remaining pre-reqs.
  12. UoP has a decent stats class that's over in five weeks.
  13. Yeah, but I was going to take it online unless they're not offering that option again this year - last year they had a class set aside for people who got into the ABSN program.
  14. Are you guys going to try and take it through the online Villa class or are you taking it somewhere else?
  15. I imagine that it would vary from school to school. When I was in undergrad, the only overt thing we had to do was take two required religious classes before graduation (two classes, four years, no big deal). But they also had an in loco parentis policy even if your parents didn't pay for school so they notified your folks of everything that was going on. They also had curfew hours imposed on the dorms and a nasty fine system - even for law students. You should probably research the extent to which the school's religious affiliation will be forced upon you before attending. A token class isn't usually an issue. Trying to rob you of $250 because someone signed out of your room five minutes late - not so awesome.
  16. I know I need the BSN, but given that in basic branches officers who want to come back in aren't always able to do so (especially with the surplus, although I understand that AMEDD is still short), I want to know if anyone has any experience where prior service made it difficult or impossible to come back in as opposed to someone starting fresh.
  17. Hopefully, if Villa is your first choice! I started to apply to Jefferson, but never finished the application process.
  18. I'm trying to wean myself onto carrot sticks to help avoid sugary foods but still get that satisfying crunch.
  19. Can ER positions ultimately lead to ICU positions? Or are the two departments trained completely seperately? I apologize if this question is ignorant, I'm interested in doing both some day, but don't want to pidgeonhole myself.
  20. Wow. It's probably better that she quit nursing if she couldn't handle that. I'm glad to hear that clinicals start off at a reasonable pace. That's reassuring for someone like me who has yet to start them.
  21. Has anyone or does anyone know someone who has left the AD Army as an officer in a basic branch and come back in as an Army Nurse? The FNEP program doesn't fit what I want to do, but I'd like to return to the service if possible. Thanks for any advice anyone has!
  22. I don't know about the Navy, but in the Army females just wear their hair in bun. Off the shoulders and out of the face.
  23. In addition to the NCLEX pass rates/cost/other considerations, I would strongly encourage you to do a campus visit. If I could go back to when I was picking out a college, this is something that I definitely would have done. Make sure that the school you choose is a good fit for you. You mention that one of the school is close enough to live at home - if you can afford to live on campus (given your amazing GPA, I hope that will offer some incentive packages for you), I would encourage you to do it. College is a great time to grow and expand your horizions, and the friends I know who lived at home during school although they could afford to do otherwise ended up regreting it even though they had great families. This is your time to spread your wings and fly.
  24. Does engraving your stethoscope work or do people still try to steal them?
