  1. So my boss REFUSED my resignation saying she'd rather look for an internal position comparable to the new one and allow me to have another option.....and then told me if I gave any notice it would have to be a month- the 3 wks I was giving was not enough. Policy states I must give equal to my accrued vacation- at this point thats a wopping 36 hrs...she said I have to give what my yearly vacation accrual would be. Does this sound right/fair/normal to anyone?
  2. I was offered my 5 year goal dream job about a week ago which makes my decision much easier, yet still difficult. I truly appreciate the skills I have learned but feel like I will continue to feel dread if I stay and not grow as a nurse
  3. I am 2 hrs away from resigning my nursing position. It was my first job after graduating and I have not been there a full year. I have typed my resignation letter keeping it short, sweet, professional, and to the point. I know my boss is going to be angry- the invested time and $ into my training but I am the furthest thing from happy. After going back to school for my BSN I knew I'd have rough days and it would be no where close to glamorous, but I never thought I would leave everyday feeling defeated and questinoing my new career path. I get low man on the totem pole but I have been abused on the schedule (its actually absurd, yet they refused to make me perm nights/weekends due. to the additional 28 cents they would have to pay me yet I've worked every weekend night shift since day one.) A pt complained about nursing care and instead of asking for the nurses name my boss assumed since I was new it was me- letter in my employee file, meeting, and forced to 'make nice' with the patient only to find out a week later my boss got it wrong and it was a nurse from a different floor- she said 'sorry.' I dont want to go in there with anything other than appreciation for all they have done for me and my career but what do i do if she starts prying????
  4. Hello Sharrie! I am a recent graduate and after months of rejected applications I not only have an interview, but an interview for my dream position as a staff nurse in a neuro trauma icu step-down (required to get into this hospital's neuro trauma icu) In order to set myself apart from the other recent grads in my area I obtained my ACLS and PALS certifications, which I believe is why I was offered the interview. I need advice on how to handle one area of the interview- my transcripts. I went to a highly competitive, 12 month BSN program and finished just 'average' on the grading scale but was given countless clinical excellence referrals. How can I address my grades (lower than my program's average due to poor test taking) and promote the clinical excellence referrals? And since this is a specialty area are there any specific topics I should look into prior to the interview? Thank you to you, and any other Nurse Guru, that can help calm my nerves and ace the interview!
  5. Greetings! I recently graduated in October with my BSN and obtained my RN license about a week later. The market has been tough on new grads in my area, but I found some temporary work to hold me over. About a month ago my sister (CCRN-Trauma) asked me to describe in one sentence my dream job- "A position in a neuro icu in a large teaching hospital, preferably in my home state." So this morning I log on to one of my top 2 dream hospital sites and apply for a neuro icu position. I applied at 9:30 am, the job posting was removed @ 11 and @ 2:15 I received a call back from a recruiter for an interview for that very job (and its 3 blocks away from my house!) I have literally told 3 people about the job and the interview....I AM FREAKING OUT!!!! Here are my questions: 1- Should I expect Neuro specific interview questions or the run of the mill HR questions? 2- I was an average student in my program due to test taking issues but I was nominated for 4 out of 6 clinical excellence awards- I have to bring my transcripts obviously, so how do I answer about my GPA and wiggle in my clinical skills? I will have 5 letters of recommendation from clinical professors but I don't know how to effectively address the GPA and transition to the letters of rec. 3- To try and get a little edge in this market I got my ACLS and PALS certifications- is saying that i sought the certifications b/c my career goals is to work in an ICU setting and wanted to have the certifications required on those floors okay to say? 4- Since I haven't had any real experience is making a portfolio ridiculous or would it show my absolute yearning for this job? I need to dominate this interview~ Any help you can give me would be awesome!
  6. Me too! Took it 8am yesterday and by 2 it popped up....Today I got my RN License # from the state
  7. OK everyone- . If you're getting the CC page and dont have the quick results option call Pearson and talk to a human.
  8. AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHh! I really hope so! I called the state and I swear the guy is high all the time...he told me to 'calm down and wait for them to post it. They update it a good amount.' REALLY mister?
  9. The pop up did tell me to contact the state, but I only took mine this morning so I didn't know how/when it started working. I know I am freaking out, but I am freaking out lol!:angthts:
  10. So is it true? I tried it and it won't let me re-register and tells me to contact my BON but has anyone gotten the pop-up but the found out they failed?
  11. Yes I did the HESI online reviews and passed my schools final HESI. I am just waiting on my ATT # from the state. How much was the Hurst review?
  12. I am waiting on my ATT# and have been slacking. I just finished an accelerated BSN program almost 2 wks ago and I swear Ive been sick since I finished my final HESI. I have been reviewing with Saunders and did the entire HESI review book front to back, but like I said I am terrified about Pharm. My school didn't really test on actual drugs, more patient safety r/t meds, so I am planning on powering through the Saunders book starting tomorrow.
  13. Hey, I just finished the ACE program and I will be more than willing to answer any questions anyone has. I agree, you do not need to but the lab coat. Also, do yourself a favor and don't buy the awful scrub pants they tell you to- they are like cardboard. Go get yourself some comfy navy scrub pants with a bunch of pockets. Textbooks- it all depends on who you get as your professor. In general most test off of their lecture power points, but it really depends on who you get as your prof. I agree with new1nursebabyea- and I'm trying to figure out who you are lol! Also, get the HESI review book the start of 2nd Quarter- it will help with the HESIs you take throughout the program....and 4th Quarter make it your best friend! But, in my opinion, if they are still using Lewis for Adult I would just get the clinical companion guide. It's $35 compared to $100+ and if your prof is good this is really all you will need. I discovered at the end of Adult 1 and never opened the text again. DO NOT BUY books for : Mental, Community, Leadership, the APA book, Informatics, and whatever class they tell you to get the Mosby Study cards for- wasted a ton of money! I think the Assessment book was helpful but towards the end I really just used the clinical pocket guide for that too. Look on the FB Drexel ACE page for people selling their books- join the page and ask, I know people who are selling...Do Not buy from the bookstore unless you have a trust fund Anyone that has more detailed questions can shoot me a private message and I will be more than happy to answer!
  14. If you go on to the evolve site you can see their suggestions for HESI scores r/t NCLEX. I think they said if you get a 900 on a comprehensive exit HESI, there is a 95% boards pass rate. My school required a 950 to graduate, but I know our HESI was light on Pharm and Peds so I am focusing on those 2 a bit more for NCLEX. Good luck!
  15. I'm not sure if its too late, but I graduated from Drexel and would be more than willing to share my- and most of my class mate's- opinion of the program from an insider just send me a message with any questions you may have. K
