  1. I am in week 3 of my class and love it! I have an A so far and my instructor is great! I am so relieved - it is a LOT of work but the class is interesting so I don't mind.
  2. I am studying about an hour a day for now - my instructor bases her tests on her powerpoint presentations and anything she covers in class so I am excited about that. For lab we are using Chess Case Studies and our quizzes will be based on specific case assignments.
  3. I am also 45 with a bachelor's degree and turning to nursing. You are definitely not too old. When I got to my first microbiology class this morning, I thought I would be so old . . . turns out there were only a couple people under 30 in the class! Go for it! I think the maturity that we bring will benefit us in nursing!
  4. Today was my first day of micro! We are using Totora's 10th edition plus lab. My teacher seems great but she did stress that the class is extremely hard in the summer due to being doubled up! yikes!
  5. I'll be interested also to see any replies. I am a 3x hodgkin's lymphoma survivor and want to go into oncology also for the same reasons as you (family history, own diagnosis, etc). Good luck!
  6. I have been to the school before years ago but it would definitely be nice to see the nursing labs. I have toured both Remington in Lake Mary and Chamberlain in Jacksonville, I was blown away by their state of the art simulated dummies! Jacksonville University also has a really nice 12 bed lab.
  7. Has anyone visited the school - are there tours available of the facilities for the nursing program?
  8. Thanks timnug!
  9. I just tried to download the file from rapidshare and it is no longer on there. It comes up as an entry but when you click download, it says it doesn't exist anymore. :throcomp:
  10. Thanks Paco386. I saw you in the UF accelerated thread - I have a BS already and am definitely going to apply to several accelerated programs but just in case I want to apply to DSC (and FCCJ and SJRCC) as fallbacks.
  11. I haven't even started cramming for the GRE - looks like I better start!
  12. So DSC doesn't require nutrition or human growth/development as pre-reqs or part of the program? Just wondering because I most of the colleges in Jacksonville require them but if I can apply at DSC without them, I might consider it. The more schools I research, the more differences I see. ARGH!
  13. I read the admission prereqs and it says that you need statistics, anatomy, physiology and microbiology - is that all? Do you know if it is A&P I and II? I didn't see any course codes. I had planned on applying only at JU and UNF but I may apply at UF too if those are the only prereqs.
  14. My backup plans are to apply for respiratory therapy or radiography if I don't get in! Of course both of those programs in my area are very competitive to get into also so I am hoping for any of the three!
  15. Neshia - good thinking to ask your schools again. It never hurts to be absolutely sure so that you don't waste time and money!

Thanks! How long ago was that? I have heard recently that they won't accept anyone outside of the two counties anymore.
  17. That's great that you can do micro online! The schools I am applying at will not accept the 'virtual lab' on any classes. Good luck!
  18. I know that FCCJ says they give preference to Duval and Nassau county residents but I can't seem to get a straight answer on if they ACCEPT students from other counties. So has anyone here been accepted recently that doesn't live in Duval or Nassau? I have gotten three different stories from FCCJ so I am not sure what to think about it.
  19. Chamberlain is $595 a credit hour up to 11 hours or $7150 for 12 - 17 credits hours plus books, etc.
  20. They told me it was something like 100 per year and they have three starting dates. I know they have not filled all of the spots yet as of last week when I was there.
  21. Have you tried Orange Park Medical Center? I was just on their site and they had 5 pages of RN openings. I did not look at job details (I am just starting nursing school) so I am not sure what level of experience they want.
  22. I think since this is their first class, they will take applications right up until the start of the semester.
  23. I start my microbiology class in late June so I will definitely be checking this thread!
  24. I am in the same boat - I had a high paying job until January of this year when I was laid-off. After 3 lay-offs in 15 years I decided to go back to school also but can get no financial aid due to what I made last year. It sucks! I am going to look into the special considerations to see what I can do. Keep us posted! I will let you know what my school finance office says!
  25. I am 45 and applying for nursing school this year - it is never too late! I have been a computer programmer for 20+ years and decided to make the switch. Good luck!
