  1. There is also not one legitimate reason to be obtaining the license with the ITIN#; you cannot work with that legally. And then it only leaves questions open as to why one needed it. There are still many issues going on with nurses coming here under tourist visas and working illegally. That would be the only reason to go for the ITIN# to be submitted. No other reason at all.
  2. I would look at taking the classes where you are located in an approved school of nursing, preferably where you attended school in the first place. You will have to leave the US after completing the make-up courses, you will not be able to remain here. CA permits the courses that are done in your country in regular nursing schools, they do not accept any on-line programs that are international to make up the hours.
  3. It will be under a student visa, but to make up the classes should not take more than a few months.
  4. The majority of states are changing their requirements now. They will permit someone to sit for the NCLEX in each and every state without the SSN#, but most will not issue a license without the SSN# any longer. Since you have already tested, there is nothing that Illinois can do until you possess a SSN# and a license to endorse. You would be applying for licensure by examination and then CA would have to submit the results to them. But there is nothing that they can do so they do not want to keep an open file on you for multiple years. VT is still issuing a license without a SSN#, but do not know how much longer that this will be in place.
  5. We do not expect it to be lifted for more than seven years with the number that are already inline in front of you. The VSC is not actually needed until one is ready for their interview if going thru Consular Processing out of the country. Only passing of the NCLEX is required for an employer to offer you a job in the first place. I would wait to do anything with Visa Screen at this time. But just make sure that you go thru Illinois for licensure before your letter expires. No sense to do it now.
  6. We ask that you speak in English only on this site, we do not permit foreign languages to be used so that all can understand. What type of visa are you on in Germany at this time? Are you a citizen of the EU or from the US or Canada? If not from the EU, then you are going to be required to pass their language exam in most cases to get a visa to work there. So that is why I am asking right up front. It will be easier to give you an answer that will be useful to you.
  7. This is why I keep pushing for everyone that comes here under the F-1 visa to know everything up front as well as the fact that there are no visas for the LPN when you are done. You get the one year of the OPT that is actually under the F-1 student visa. Otherwise, there is no visa for you to remain in the US and work in that role. But even if you get into an RN program right away, this is still not going to get you a visa to work here when it is done. Since you mentioned small, private vocational school; do you know for a fact that it is approved by your BON in the first place? We are seeing quite a few that have opened up but that are not accredited by the state and hence the graduates are unable to sit for any licensing exam. Just make that this is not happening to you.
  8. No, you can start. The first tip actually needs to be completed before one should send my a pm in the first place. Just do not spend more than three hours per day reviewing. Question that I cannot figure out is that endorsement means that you hold a license in another state that is currently active; so not sure how one of the recommendations is to endorse your license.
  9. The ITIN# is not the same as the SSN# and it should not be substituted for the SSN#. A state requires the SSN# to know that you can work legally in the US, the ITIN# is issued when one does not have permission to work in the US, but needs a number for taxes, such as they are here under the H-4 visa. Be aware that the state has the right to cancel out a license if they find that the ITIN# was substituted for it. Remember that one has to submit the SSN# to the BON for any state when they obtain it and how are you going to explain that you had submitted the ITIN# to get around the laws here. Please be very careful in doing this. If a state was accepting of the ITIN#, it would be listed on their application, and then they also would not require the SSN# for licensure in the first place.
  10. Do you actually have a SSN#? If not, then you cannot endorse your results and must use the License by Examination application. Also not sure what type of visa that you have since you are needing the VSC. You are looking at more than five years for a chance at a green card or to be able to adjust your status, chances are more than likely that the VSC will need renewing by then. If you go for licensure in Illinois first, then you will be required to obtain verification from them as well for the VSC.
  11. It really is a moot point. You have no choice but to pay what the school is requesting if you want the OPT. And one does not select a school based on what this fee is. At least they should not be doing so. But just noticed something, have you actually applied for the OPT? It usually is done about five months out now as it takes that long to get. It must be done before you complete your last day of classes. And one only has three months to obtain an employer or the OPT gets cancelled as well. If you are going to be graduating next month, you are going to have many issues with this. If you did not submit for the OPT already, then you need to have a little talk with your international advisor on this.
  12. The poster is a new grad. Without working, there is no way to complete the required deliveries. One needs to have training in deliveries as well as the complications associated with deliveries. Best way to get this is in an approved program since they are already out of school.
  13. Congratulations on getting your results. Consider yourself fortunate, this is no longer the case for many.
  14. Check with your school, they are actually the ones that handle it.
  15. Or you can try to do your electives in the areas that you will need for the US. You will also have plenty of time to make up the hours later on as you are going to be looking at several years before you will have a chance at a green card. I would not focus on any of this at this time.
  16. The locations that he mentioned happen to both require the local license. We are also expecting more and more states to require this as well as it is being talked about that the US government is going to require it for all foreign nurses wishing to get visas to work in the US. What is being done now or what was done recently, is not going to necessarily what is being done when the person graduates from school. And when you add on the approximate year that it is going to take, then that is one year without work as a nurse. -------------------- And as we have mentioned repeatedly, you may see jobs posted, but they usually are for those with experience. And if you see a new grad job posted, chances are that it was required to be posted by HR, but the managers already know who they are going to select ahead of time for the job. We are seeing more and more new grads that trained in the US have issues trying to get hired now. Please let us know what happens with your wife after she actually applies for an RN job once she sits for the NCLEX exam. Wish her the best on it, remember that she was going to be writing it the end of February.
  17. You are one of the lucky ones, it is actually more like what I have been posting for the majority of them now. Every other state that I am aware of also requires that one possess a current and active license before they can take a refresher course. It may have something to do with the shortage of nurses in your state. I have nurses from all over the country that I help pass the NCLEX again since they were out of practice for so many years and their BON is requiring that they sit for the exam again. This is happening in almost every state.
  18. Please read the new sticky at the top of this forum: CA BRN has recently updated their website and in bold black print, it states that the wait is two to four weeks to get your results. just look under the top section where it says answers to frequently asked questions and you can read it for yourself. It is no longer posted about times being shorter. Two to four weeks.
  19. never assume that your file is complete, it is not reviewed until you have passed the nclex exam and the results are placed in your file.
  20. The first tip actually needs to be completed before one sends me a pm requesting the program. Then it is 48 days if testing for the first time and 49 days if retesting from the date that it is sent out. It is going to take much more than 49 days to prepare with it. Just wanted to clear this up for you. The first tip which is a review only does not count in the 48/49 days.
  21. please read the new sticky that i have placed concerning results in ca from the brn. you can also read it directly on their website now. it is going to be two to four weeks before results are released. you can read it in black and white right on their website. please just sit tight and wait for your results. --------------------------- until you obtain the results, the ip remains active.
  22. When did you actually write the NCLEX exam for CA? You have three years that the letter is valid for. No reason to try to go thru another state at this time, we just recommend that you begin doing things in the last six months or so; or you are just going to be paying licensing fees to the other state and licenses expire every two years. Retrogression is not going to be lifted this year, impossible to that to happen. Visas must be current and there are thousands already ahead of you in the petitioning process. Yes, if something changed and you got your SSN# before the letter expired, then you could get the CA license; otherwise you will have to reapply to CA for the license down the road. It is not a big issue. But most definitely do not count on that happening. I suspect that you do not have an employer as of yet, and one is required for you to even begin the petitioning process for the green card. That is why we keep stating that you are going to be looking at more than seven years for a chance at the visa. When there are now many American new grads that are having issues getting hired, an employer from here cannot prove that they cannot hire an American for the job. Would suggest that you focus on going to another country to gain paid work experience, we are expecting that the US will put in place rules just like every other country that requires actual experience before being accepted for a visa here.
  23. 1. The RN programs in the Philippines are now five years in length. Second courser programs are going to take over three years to complete and this is if you have a Bachelor's degree in another field. As well as the fact that the government there is trying to close many of them down. 2. You will be required to remain there and take and pass the NLE exam since you will not be exempt from it. The PRC will not grant you a waiver from it since legally you can sit for it. 3. States here are now requiring that you write it before they will permit you to sit for the NCLEX exam. 4. It is usually going to be six months after you write the NLE before you will have the license in hand. You need to have that before you can even apply over here for licensure, then you can expect another four to six months before you will get approval to sit for the NCLEX exam. 5. Not sure if you are aware that there are over 500,000 unemployed RNs in the Philippines right now. Those that can find work actually have to complete a volunteer or training program where they actually have to pay the hospital to do, and then they only have a chance of getting hired there as an RN. I would recommend that you take the time to do some reading on the Philippine Forum about what is also happening with quite a few of the programs there. You also need to be aware that it is going to be much harder for you to get hired in the US when you return since you will have trained out of the US, new grads that trained in the US are having issues all over the country with getting hired. Best of luck to you. But if your goal is to work in the US, you would be much further ahead by going to school here. Even though you are a US citizen, you will always be considered as a foreign grad and will have to meet all of the additional requirements.
  24. CPT time will take from the OPT time, so do not assume that you will get the full OPT after each degree. That is not going to happen.. OPT is not a visa, it is done under the F-1 status, it is considered a training period. You do not get any other visa while you are on it. And per the US immigration rules, you must maintain full-time student status to be able to remain under the F-1 visa. Which means that when the OPT ends, you have to be enrolled in the next semester of classes starting or the visa will be cancelled. Next problem that one will face that even with all of the training here, there is no guarantee that you will be able to remain in the US and get a green card when you are done as a start. And you need to be aware of the fact that you do not get the CPT automatically when you begin each new school program. You will need to apply for it and you cannot work more than 20 hours per week under it. Please take the time to do some reading and never assume anything. Things are going to be getting tighter for foreign nurses here, even if you attend school here. There are many American new grads that are out of work and have not been able to start their career as well.
  25. People have still lost their jobs, the coverage is not going to be immediate. There are still many more new grads than there are new grad positions available. If you can get a couple of years of experience before coming back to CA, then it would most definitely be in your favor. And yes, the state now has a budget that has been signed, but have you actually read thru it and seen all of the cuts to health care? As well as the fact that Medicare is in process of being overhauled and that is where the majority of funding for hospitals comes from. Anything happening is still not going to change the new grad situation in CA. Most definitely not.
