  1. I just finished this week. I am waiting to get a test date through the state. There is a lot of work out there right now for CNA's. I would love to work in a hospital but think they want some experience first although I have read on here some get hired in hospitals right away. I will apply to both. I don't want to start applying until I have my certificate in hand but was told you can hired as long as they know you finished a CNA program and have a test date. I am in MA to.
  2. Absolutely! My adviser told me it looks really good if your a CNA when you apply to the Nursing Program. The programs through the Red Cross only take 3 weeks in MA. I just finished my CNA and I am working on my prereqs which will take me a year so in the meantime I am going to work as a CNA.
  3. I was wondering the same thing. I am also pursuing Nursing and am about to become certified and looking for a job. I will also let them know.
  4. White scrubs and shoes for clinicals. I did the 3 week day. The course load wasn't to bad. Just reading 2-3 chapters a night but it really wasn't bad. I loved it! Which site are you going to?
  5. I am so surprised to hear the comments about the instructors at Fall River Red Cross. I am taking my CNA there and they to me are extremely qualified. They have years of experience as Nurses. I think they give you patients that require more assistance so that you will be challenged. I think the program there is awesome.
  6. Hi. I am in my second week at the Red Cross CNA program. I can not say enough good things about it. I have learned so much and the instructors are awesome. One is an RN and the other an LPN and they are very knowledgeable. I would absolutely go through the Red Cross. I am sure they offer it in your area.
  7. Wow, I would love that! Thanks for the feedback!
  8. Thanks! I would love to work in the hospital! Do you have to have experience in LTC first? I have several friends that are Nurses and they said LTC pays more than hospitals.
  9. I don't know any one working as a CNA. I did talk to a woman from a home health agency and she said her CNA's make from 12-18. I know I would be on the lower end but don't want to short change myself if they ask what I am looking for. I am not going to be working for a home health agency, I decided to go w/LTC and don't know if the pay would be different. Would I be crazy to ask for 15 so that maybe I will get 14?
  10. I am doing exactly the same and was told by my advisor at school to go for CNA. You will learn so much from the nurses you work for and from the patients you take care of and by the time you do go to school for you RN you will be very prepared for clinicals.
  11. So I will be getting my CNA cert. shortly and have no idea what to ask for when I start interviewing. I will be working in LTC, 3-11. Any one work in MA have any advice?
  12. What do you think of the clinical portion?
  13. Yikes, now I am second guessing paying for this course! Were you a nervous wreck when you first started your new job and having to learn as you go along? Do you work in LTC or in a Hospital setting?
  14. Fall River offers a CNA cost for $700 through Red Cross
  15. I signed up for the Red Cross course in Fall River for the summer. Have not met anyone who has taken it. Mine is 3 weeks long!
  16. winsomehill do you live in MA?
  17. So I am working on my general ed classes for RN school. Well I will be as of this summer! I am thinking of taking the CNA class and working a couple of days a week as a CNA to gain experience. My question is what does a CNA do in a hospital setting? I know clean the bed pan and bodily fluids, but what else. Any CNA's could you tell me what an average day is like.

    I live in Massachusetts.

I am thinking of going to school for LPN and when the kids get older do the bridge for RN. Want to know what the average pay is for an LPN in MA? The program is not cheap so I want to be sure I can pay that student loan!!
  20. So I am thinking of going the LPN route first and working for a couple of years until the kids get a bit older and then doing a bridge program. Is there work out there for LPN's? I know the hospitals don't have it but what is the average pay for an LPN?
  21. I live about 25 minutes from Barnstable, in Plymouth. I don't know how I would be able to do a clinical that starts before 8am. It is so hard when you are juggling school w/young kids. If you are a day student can you do an evening clinical? In the evening program do you still graduate in two years? I was told I can't apply until I have my general ed classes complete or I won't get accepted. Not just the prerequisites but all the general ed. So I have to do that for two years before I can even apply! Yikes it seems so far away. I tried to reply to your private message but it won't let me send out private messages??? Thanks for answering my questions!!!!!
  22. Thanks! Did you do the morning clinicals? What time did yours start? Also did you have to do all your general ed classes before getting accepted into the nursing program?
  23. Has anyone out there attended CCCC Nursing program? They want almost all general ed classes completed before entering the program so that you will focus on your nursing classes. What is their clinical schedule? I have young kids and and can't be at a 7AM clinical.
  24. Okay so I am new to this site and have not yet started nursing school. First have to do all my prerequisites. I am reading over the different posts on this site and am soooooo nervous because I have never worked in the medical field and am afraid I am going to not know what I am doing when I graduate. My question to everyone is did you go into Nursing school w/medical knowledge or did you learn all of this in school. Am I going to get thrown into clinicals before I have any clue what I am doing or are there lots of classes before clinicals that will give the confidence and knowledge to know what I am doing.
