The med Calc test for 1st semester students is 90% you can only miss one problem out of 10, or out of 20. The only difference is the number of problems you have each semester, they increase in number and difficulty. You can still only miss one problem. 90% or 97% doesn't matter. Only allowed to miss one problem. The prep class is available to accepted RN students. Summer for fall program and Christmas break for the spring time. Good luck all!

The classes that are nursing program-specific are as follows: Biology 189 A & P 223 English 101 Psychology 101 Math 100B or (college level algebra 124) These are for College of southern Nevada I do not know about NSC:)

I am sorry you didn't get in, you probably will the next time around. I know what its like to want something so badly and not get it. You guys are all so cute and excited about this, very positive attitudes and all- no matter what-- it is very sweet.

I took the pharmacology online and I didn't think it was too bad- but I love pharmacology! I loved my teacher though too and in this program, the teacher you get matters. Since names cannot be posted, I recommend you come to the Charleston campus before your new student orientation and talk to other current 1st semester students. Pharmacology is the only class you get to register for that is not in the "lottery" assignment, and you are even told NOT to register for it until you get the other classes, but why wait and register last for Pharm? Makes no sense... Also, if I could have avoided Nursing 101 instructors in an online course- which they did not offer when I went through, I would have done so!:)

Nevada state college is a university call them or go to their website they have to disclose the information.

CSN does not require a chemistry class of any kind...

There are RN refresher courses at CSN. They cost about $350?? and I think they run for the semester or at least several weeks. Go to csn.edu and look in the PDF catalog in nursing- its called RN refresher. Don't give up!

Actually they just lost their accreditation (sp) this year due to the failure rate on the NCLEX. Idk what that means per say, maybe they can only work here now...

You are probably calculating your GPA incorrectly and the point requirement has probably gone up from 27 points. The alternates that had 26 or 27- maybe they have medical experience? Do you? SO many reasons, you should go in and talk to the LE office lady, she is super nice. Always keep your options open! Check out Nevada State University.

I got in as an alternate though I do not know how it works. Go to orientation, many, many alternates do get in~

Are you aware of the demand of the biology classes alone? From the posts I have just read, nobody is even close to realistic. YES Nevada State is EASIER! It is not as hard, people actually get A's from that school in a 6 or 8 week accelerated course. People that posted that they are not aware of it being easier, perhaps the subject was more interesting? or, they had a good instructor? Why do they not want to admit they took the easier A road? Who knows. They did. NSC doesn't compare to the workload or demand of CSN. Does that make it less? Nope I don't think so. Is this possible at CSN with the workload that other students are suggesting? Nope. Simple as that. Nope. No way, not if you expect to get good grades. And by good grades I mean pre requisites: Biol 189 and A&P 223-- no less than B Psychology, Math, and English-- an A Cumulative GPA for these 5 classes goal? 3.25-3.50- minimum! Nothing less than that for the points. The general education classes must be done concurrently A&P 224 = 10points Micro Biol = 5 points Communications = 5 points Sociology and History or Poly Sci = 1 point each Gen Ed total = 22 points Current Medical certification = 1 point Verified current experience = 1 point Teas exam score = up to 6 points I am in the last semester at CSN nursing program and if I could do it all over again with out financial concern? I would go to NSC. Simple. Keep your options open- CSN- they chew you up and spit out 50% of all entered students in the first semester alone. Why am I telling you this? I wish someone had told me...

I really cant remember when the summer schedule actually becomes available as this will be the first summer it is only online. Every other summer schedule has been in print and online. Plus school fries my brain! Lol!! Usually mid April for sure since classes start the first week of June. Sorry I can't be more of a help.

I Never said anything about pre-requs. I have heard that it is pretty easy to ace them at Nevada state though. Many who fail them at CSN go to NSC to get them done. The part time program at CSN is 7 semesters, two years plus the summer semesters- It is not three years. IDK how long the part time program is at NSC... Nursing school at CSN is not easy, no matter what kind of student you are; I forgot myself for a moment! CSN has the highest % of RN graduates that pass the NCLEX their first try-- and the best reputation for the kind of nurses they place in the job market. I should have been more specific, I am sorry.

Oh, the teachers at Apollo teach at CSN too. They are the same teachers! They work part time at each school many of them. They probably don't tell you that because you pay 10 x what CSN students pay for the same instructors...

I am in my 2nd semester at CSN and we are not really safe. THey are prob going to enact the 'state of emergency' clause and start letting teachers go-RIGHT NOW during spring semester--they do not have to finish paying out their current contract--tenure or brand new; they have already called the meeting to set it in motion. The emergency clause puts them all at an equal level. They will be increasing furlow time- (you know when you go in to the office during business hours and nobody is there to help you? That is "time without pay", although I am sure I spelled that word wrong) cutting admissions, increasing class sizes, increasing tuition, decreasing availability times for classes; the work load will increase for each teacher left on campus. What do you think that will do to us? How happy and gracious will the teachers be with us over-anxious-stressed out students? No, we are not safe at all!! Pray a lot is all I can say; and write to Gov Gibbons- tell him, beg him!--not to cut education!

No offense intended about uneducated workers-- I am one myself. It is so difficult to get an education; it is now even more difficult.

I AM SO SORRY IF THIS IS NOT WHAT YOU WANT TO HEAR BUT....The govenor of Nevada does not give a hoot about education. He stated- "class size does not impact learning" in reference to grade & high school! I would be willing to bet that he will get away with closing Nevada State College- it has been on the chopping block before but not with this much financial impact to the point of choosing between UNLV and NSC. Plus the tuition at UNLV will probably increase by 1/3 minimally--and I have not been watching this jack of all trades because he infuriates me!!-- "while I am govenor, I will not raise taxes", but your children will get no education and we will build a 2.3 billion dollar city office building downtown to try to bring in business to the hookers and uneducated workers... who are getting pay cuts and being laid off every other week. Reminds me of the story "The Emporor is Wearing No Clothes". This has not worked thus far, BE AWARE BEFORE APPLYING TO COLLEGE HERE IN NEVADA!!! Do you really want to move your whole family here? I am at a loss when I finish my associates at CSN I had planned to go to NSC to finish my BSN. I am very sad about all of this, my kids are in the school system here and I am as well so if I can save you any heart ache- save yourselves.

hello!! my uncle is traveling to haiti on march 13th on his own dime, time, with no pay; to work out of a clinic on the border of the dominican republic with a nurse/patient ratio of 40 to 1. these patients have traumatic amputations and other injuries with no antibiotics x two week with horrific infections and severe pain. he needs help with anything you can give-- if we all give $5-$20 dollars each what a difference that would make! while he is not being paid, his hospital is supporting his group; he has access to purchase and transport antibiotics as well as much needed medical supplies but they need to pay for food, medical supplies, extra luggage and the transport of all equiptment and supplies. this is not tax deductable; this is all out his own pocket and contributions from family and friends. he will be keeping all of you updated on facebook with photos and verbal updates as often as possible as his patient ratio allows. upon return he will send everyone who wishes an accounting of the funds contributed. please keep them in your thoughts and prayers! i am still a nursing student and i am so jealous that i cannot go along with him to help. he and his group just bought their airline tickets this week! please go to facebook and look up tracey cearley he has this account just for this trip. thank you.
