  1. Thank you so much for all the information. It is greatly appreciated. Can't wait to get things started!!! Australia here I come!!!!! :)
  2. I am a US licensed registered nurse and planning on moving to Australia, possibly Melbourne. I am trying to see if someone can give me some information regarding the requirements or a site where I can inquire. Your help will be greatly appreciated. :)
  3. There will be plenty of jobs waiting for you!!! :)
  4. People really have to consider why they took up nursing in the first place... If it is just because of the money to be made or just because it is a field that you'll always have a job--anywhere... then think twice...because it will definitely make you unhappy. Nursing is pretty much a sacrifice of one's self. You are actually giving not receiving. Can't say there aren't any jobs out there or employers are only hiring nurses with 1 year experience or more...They're just not looking hard enough. There are employers who hire new grads/no hospital experience nurses!!! That's why they have preceptorship programs! If you went into nursing for the wrong reasons...think again...
  5. I love working on the surgical floor. Different cases and not to mention it is a " cleaner" unit , if you know what I mean!
  6. I used to skip lunch breaks, but I then realized that if anything happens to me, I don't think these patients that I am caring for will care for me. We have to take care of ourselves first to be an effective caregiver. :)
  7. Thank you so much for your input guys!
  8. I meant IV Certification and not just being checked off as a skill :)
  9. I like the Lippincott's pocket manual of nursing practice as a Med-Surg nurse. But it's not really "pocket-size"
  10. HIV, infections (viral) and steroids can all cause false readings. Unless the answer choice states patient who had taken BCG--- I would go for the BCG vaccinated patient. But BCG is not taken orally though...
  11. Caroladybelle, My employer paid for everything including the time that I sat for the class and exam--every single minute of it! :) Not bad of a deal, I guess
  12. Where I work, they pay $5 per hour more if you're certified. I think that's a pretty good deal! :)

  14. tip for discrimination? don't let anybody step on your toes! we filipinos tend to keep things within ourselves, don't be afraid to speak up! i don't want you to get frustrated, okay? :)

  16. The hospital that I work for has mandated that all RNs be IV Certified. What's your take on this? Your thoughts are greatly appreciated
  17. Hi, Angelique! Hope this response is not too late and will be helpful to you. I work in New Jersey and the hospital that I work for mandates that all RNs are IV Certified. They have porvided the course and we had to take the exams too. Maybe NYC hospitals offer them... you might want to check them out. Also, check PACE university I know that they offer a lot of courses, their website is https://appserv.pace.edu/lienhard Good Luck! :)
  18. Barbie, I am so sorry about your friend's ordeal. Racism is all over and believe me, when I first moved to NYC I felt it more ( coming from California). The problem with us Filipinos, we just keep taking things in, and we hardly ever complain. We all need to be assertive, and we need to speak up! That's the only advise I can give you and your friend. Hope this helps:)
  19. Medical assistants know basic nursing care ( nursing 101), but they are not trained to think critically. I believe they don't really get into diseases and they pathophysiology. So I still believe that Rns should be in Physician's Offices. It'll be safer. I agree, the word Nurses should only pertain to "Rns and LPNs."
  20. If you want a comprehensive book, try Lippincott Manual of Nursing Practice. I find this really helpful when I need to go back and familiarize myself with procedures/nursing care/patient health teaching. Hopefully this will help you too.:roll
