  1. :heartbeat Hi there. I am in my second semester as a Baptist scholar. You have to be accepted into a nursing program before you can apply for Baptist. Once you are accepted, you apply and go through the interview process. The schools they are giving this option to are Fla. Keys Community College, Miami Dade, Barry and Nova. If you get the AS degree with MDC or Fl Keys you are bound to a contract of 2 yrs and if you get BSN with Barry or Nova you owe them 3 years of work. The school they do not pay in full is Barry. They give you 20K for that one. I encourage you to contact the scholars office to make sure this is current information since things are subject to change from semester to semester and info here may be a little outdated. I also encourage you to apply to as many programs as you can, Baptist, UM or whichever. I am sure they all their pros and cons, but ultimately if this is what you really want to do you have to go in with an open mind and have plan a, b, and c. Please remember that although it is great to come on here and get an idea of how things are, everyone is different and their experiences are different. What may not be so great for someone else may turn out to be a great experience for you. Best of luck to you and everyone else on here trying to get into a program. :heartbeat
  2. Good luck with your interviews!
  3. Hi, I am currently in the program. We owe Baptist 3 yrs of employment when we complete our BSN. The students in our class have associate degrees but are not RNs. We have one LPN in our class. Baptist is currently expanding and has a hospital scheduled to open in West Kendall in a year. Let me know if I can help you with anything.
  4. Hi Tatortots! Thank you. Well, you apply for the scholarship once you have been accepted into the nursing program. It's hard to say what they are looking for. I heard that they do not stress GPA too much since they know it is hard enough to get into nursing school and so that covers the academic part. You would interview with a panel of nurses and they all ask you questions that I guess would reflect on your personality and work ethic. It's more like a job interview since you will have a three year contract to work for them once you graduate. Best of luck to you!
  5. Sorry, I Asira, I just noticed you replied to that question. That is the same book I used...
  6. Hi! My friend still has the book so I don't have the isbn, but here is a link to the book on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Evolve-Reach-Admission-Assessment-Review/dp/1416056351
  7. I think the book coincided a lot with the test. But it was more like a refresher, it had general concepts, nothing too in detail. That is how I saw it, but it may be different for others. I used the book and let a friend use it as well and both of us did pretty well, I think it's worth buying.
  8. Hi ladies. I took the test last month. The book they recommend to prepare helped me. The test contains Math, Reading comprehension, Grammar, Vocabulary, Critical Thinking, Chemistry, Biology, Anatomy and Physiology. There is also a personality profile. Best of luck! :)
  9. I'll send you a private message :)
  10. Congrats rachelrose!!! I am going for Barry. So, you're in the process of signing the agreement and all the other stuff they have you do? Is your orientation also on 08.17.09? Very excited, congrats again!
  11. Hi, I did. Are you going for Barry or Nova?
  12. I love this thread! I had the same concern. I am starting a BSN program next month and have a 20 month old. It is so encouraging to hear all of your experiences and success!
  13. Wow, I am so sorry to hear that. I can't even imagine what I would do if I were in your shoes. We try so hard to keep our kids' innocence and trust that other parents do same. God only knows what that other child is being exposed to. I am sorry your son, you and your family have to go through such and uncomfortable and disturbing situation.
  14. Hi MIABSN, I think everyone gets asked different questions. I was expecting to be asked why I wanted to become a nurse, how to handle patient confidentials, etc. But I was not. I was asked things like my greatest weakness and biggest mistake on the job. It was pretty much a job interview. I hear nothing but good things about NOVA. I wish you the best of luck at your interview next week! Keep us posted :heartbeat P.S. I am the one from the previous post, changed my username :)
  15. It was hard for me to come up with something good while on the spot and of course when I get home, everything comes to mind! LOL! Yes, I am so glad it is finally over with and will try my best to stay positive! A week or two is not so long of a wait, so that is good. The program sounds really great! Thank you so much for the support and all the info! I get in too! Maybe I'll see you around in August! I'll keep my fingers crossed!!! I will keep you posted!
  16. Hi jmi0886, I was told we would know in about 15 days, they asked me questions like... What is your greatest weakness? Why should they make an investment in you? How would you resolve a conflict with a coworker? I wish you the best of luck!!! :heartbeat
  17. They asked me what was the worst mistake I had made at my job and when I could not think of an example, she kept drilling me! I felt like they wanted some negative responses, I guess that would mean I am being honest???? I had some trouble with those types of questions. Wow, you must be so excited to be so close. I hear Nova is awesome!
  18. Hi NiesyLuv0o, Thank you so much for your reply. I am going to Barry. How about you? Well, I had my interview this morning and was very nervous. I was able to see your reply before I went in, which made me feel better! They did seem intimidating. I gave it my best and all I can do now is hope I am in! Thanks again for your help :)
  19. Hi NiesyLuv0o, I know this is an old post, but I wanted to know if you can provide any pointers. I am going in for my interview with the panel of nurses at Baptist tomorrow morning. I am very nervous and would appreciate any feedback you can give about the admission process and the program itself. Thank you! :heartbeat
  20. Hi jmi0886! Tomorrow is the big day! Very nervous! I will post on here when I'm done! :typing
  21. Thank you! I will keep you posted!
  22. I had to get it online, every store I went to was out! I am glad to hear it's the same stuff on the test. I thought it was mandatory, I guess that is one less thing to worry about then. I am planning on doing at MDC Kendall or Homestead. Too bad you live so far!! It'd be great to do it together. I am glad too! Hopefully we'll be getting started together this fall! Take care! :)
  23. I know, I really want to start in the fall as well. I am not sure I can hack it in an accelerated program, I am just happy we at least have a plan B. I applied for MDC, but the cut off GPA was 3.8, so I am sure I can't go that route. I also have an AA and had my reservations about pursuing another associates degree, but in the end decided that if that's what I had to do I would. I hate the thought of letting another year pass me by. I am sorry about the commute, that is exactly what I dread if I have to go to Miami Shores. But in the end you have to remember that the sacrifice is well worth it. I know you will sort it all out. I am sure Baptist employees are a shoe in, but I don't know about relatives. The application does not have a place for you to put the relative that works there's information. I am registered to take the entrance exam on 07/10. I just sent out the fingerprint cards and did the drug test on Monday. I still have to enroll for CPR certification. I got all my shots, 2 PPD tests and am in the process of getting the series of Hep B shots. Geez, they want so much stuff! Are you going to the orientation on Aug 26 for transfer students to Barry? mral3xis, I want to go for the same reasons :)
  24. Re: Baptist Hospital Scholars Program - Miami So I had an interview and here are some questions I was asked: Why do you want to be a nurse? What would you do if you saw a pt being mistreated by a fellow nurse? How would you handle a mistake in regards to a pt? how do you handle pt confidentials? Why do you want to work here? Where do you see yourself in 5 yrs? basic garden variety questions I guess.
  25. My interview is on the 24th so I will definitely give you the heads up as to what they will ask. I've had my heart set on Baptist since the beginning because they give 20k and you have a guaranteed job. My husband also works at Baptist and loves it there. I had the chance to register for Miami Shores and didn't because of the commute. Then I had a change of heart and asked Terri but it was too late, they were full! She had my files reviewed and I got accepted for January's accelerated program as a back up. If we start January, we still end up graduating at the same time since the accelerated program is one semester less. I did some searches the other day and saw some old posts referring to questions they asked. Maybe you can try that and see what you come up with? I will do the search again and post what I find on here. I am taking a class with a girl that did the scholars program, but she said that when she did it, was interviewed by one person not a PANEL of nurses!!! So, she is not really able to provide much insight about the interview
