  1. I used to mention aromatherapy when I taught prenatal classes. I love aromatherapy. One aspect I used to mention is how we can relate a smell to a thought or feeling. I would then break out the freshly baked cookies and mention how for me this smell brought back memories of grandma. Then I would talk about labor preparation and how utilizing certain aromas during practice can be useful when they go into labor. (i.e., using the scents while in labor can "bring back the memory" of the practice). I don't know if that makes sense. It actually does when I say it out loud:lol2: Personally, I use tea tree oil a lot. I have also found benefit with lavender (relaxation) and with spearmint (for nausea). Good luck with your research and presentation. Melissa
  2. Believe it or not...where I work, we rarely have more than one patient at a time. I have been here about 3 yrs now, and I have never had more than one if my patient was in labor. The head nurse and/or clinical instructor come to help out until back up staff can arrive. Unfortunately, I had to leave the USA to find this dream job! Melissa:monkeydance:
  3. One of my favorites from L&D is the patient request for the "epidermal" for pain.
  4. I am impressed with the pain management going on here. It is one thing I am fighting to change in my current locale. Most of our C/S request general...and they get it. If they do have an epidural in labor of course it is used (if it still works). Post delivery, we use Morphine PCA for up to 24 hrs. There all also orders for Voltaran PR, Tylenol #3 Q4-6hrs prn and regular Tylenol Q4-6hrs. On top of this...the nurses are AFRAID to use narcotics! Quite a challenge. Melissa
  5. I just did a presentation at work about the placenta. Try to google "placenta recipes." I think I got 422,000 hits in less than 1/4 second. It is very common. I work in L&D, and have never known of a patient that actually intended to do this. I don't think I ever could! There are supposed to be many health benefits.
  6. I have to totally agree with you. I am currently working out of the USA. I here all the time..."well, that is the way we do things here!" Thanks for your comment. Melissa
  7. Thank God that I have not run into any of those human beings! I am an American, living and working in Saudi Arabia. I have been here for two years now. I absolutely love it, and only wish I would have come sooner. Quite honestly, I feel very safe here, in fact in the two years here I have never felt threatened at all. The Middle East may NOT be the right place for everyone. There are a lot of Americans that come here with a goal in mind--one or two years of tax free earnings and they plan to go home. 5-10 years later they are still here! I hope I have not offended anyone. This is my first post to the boards...I just had to respond. Thanks for listening... Melissa
