  1. I agree with you mart24, she does hold grudges- i no longer work there. she did make life pretty difficult when she came in. She was quick to blame others. i went to the office manager, but that didn't do any good( they are freinds outside of work-why she got the job). thank goodness i'm no longer there:)
  2. I was just wondering why it was so awful to discuss wages. i understand that some nurses have more experience and should get paid more than me. it just concerns me that one can be terminated from the job for discussing pay, when all you hear about is the demand for nurses. Am i missing the big picture? Any info. would be great. -side question. what is the basic pay rate for fairly new lpn. A job prospect offered $11.25/hr. that seems low to me. that's 3 dollors less than my last job. -manda
  3. I always beleived in scheduled lunch breaks-but they don't always work. i was always the one waiting for peple to return from their lunch so that i could go-worked in m.d. office. my doctor ALWAYS ran behind. by time they all got back i would get 10min. the unit couldn't be without a nurse present. when i went to my supervisor it turned out to cause more trouble. i didn't know that my doctor went to the manager complaning that my supervisor was doing a bad job cause i wasn't getting a lunch. my supervisor made such a big deal about how i HAD to leave the floor right at 12:30 , and wouldn't let up till i left. i think that if you work together with all the staff, a common ground can be met so that all get a lunchand patients are not neglected. in a perfect world it would work great for all. i hope you come to that common ground:) -manda
  4. I could never do that-my heart goes out to you. next week can only be better. hugs :kiss -manda
  5. when i had a finger stick last year, it occured while cleaning instruments(in m.d. office), the doctor i worked for did a complete Hep panel. i think because we couldn't say what instrument was used for who. it wasn't part of protocol to have it done- my manager even asked why the doctor ordered the testing(because of the cost). that is what most facilities have a prblem with-the cost!! that will always be there concern:o -manda
  6. I haven't worked in either, but just went to an interview for pool. the great thing about it is the experience, also a challenge. But as the others stated- it is your decision on how you feel about these areas. think of the pros and cons and go from there. it will come to you-remeber to keep yourself in mind when making the final decision. take care -manda
  7. Peaceful, i too am a single mom-25yrs old. i understand. i worked in the nursing home right after i passed my boards- it was the skilled unit. the first time that one of my patients went into a diabetic seizure i ran out of the room to grab the glucose monitor and also yelled " i need a nurse in here", the nurse i was giving report to earlier said" you are the nurse!!" i felt so insure of what i was doing. it passed, but i was able to leave and go to some place slower to gain the cofidence i needed. Have you gone to your supervisor and asked if there is another unit you can work on- if you have a contract i'm sure that they can still help you. also try going to human resource they are sure to help you as well. Just keep in mind that YOU CAN DO IT :) You are in my thoughts and i hope that all goes well. Please feel free to message me if you need to talk further:kiss -Manda
  8. manna- i lived in a small town and got a WM- it did nothing for us but piss off the historical commitee. Krogers have it lucky- my last place of employment-Dr. office, just cancelled the insurance for the employees. Yes, cancelled it. the company is splitting up and doing so before they had a new ins. co. lined up. they are not even offering cobra. is there a law against this?? manda
  9. Sorry you are in this postion. Have you asked the college if they have any tutors available- i know that it might cost, but you can also check for $$ assistance. Also, you might also be able to get the Pell Grant, this will help pay for your education. Also get the list of scholerships from the college and see if you can apply for any of those. I can't help with the NET test, all i had to take was a entrance exam. i do however wish you the best of luck. It was hard going to school being a single mom-i went for my lpn for the time factor and now i am taking a home course to get my rn. have faith and you'll get through it.
  10. i also use Eucerine cream for my hands. the best stuff ever. i have to use it for my daughters eczema-it works great:) i use the hand cream during the day- it almost seems pointless since i wash then apply and next thing you know i'm washing again and over and over the process goes, but my hands don't crack. i then use the thick cream in the jar at home- feels a little greasy at first but only for a few min. i hope that you figure something out that helps you- when i worked in texas as a CNA- they gave me a spray that i applied over my hands and let dry on. it would be good for about ten hand washes, unfortunantly i can't remeber the name. the hospital supplies it. take care:p
  11. the first is hard, and they do get a little easier. my first incounter with death was as a CNA. i worked in the nursing home 11pm-7am. she was a DNR. I sat by her side all night(inbetween rounds) and held her hand. Her family lived in another state(they dropped her off and split)! i cried but was releved that she no longer suffered, she passed in the middle of shift switch- we were all in there discussing the nights events- so she wouldn't be alone. She was a beatiful lady- and i will never forget her!
  12. as an LPN i had an easier time getting a job in a doctors office than at the hospital after being a new grad. If you are a RN you might have an easier time getting a job in the hospital-of course it wouldn't be that hard getting a job in a doctors office for you either. Working in the doctors office is great- not to stressful. The only thing is that you might lose some of your skills that you would be able to keep up with if you worked in the hospital. That is what i am facing now that i'm returning to the hospital after a year of working in the doctors office-family practice. whatever you get-best of luck:)
  13. thanks for the advise, i will be calling the agency.
  14. STOP NOW! if you continue you will suffer, fatigue will catch up. i had the same problem-i could never say NO. i learned after i got really sick, fevers the works. and unfortunently admin. looks over the extra hours-because no one else would do it. also others start to think " well, i can call in, that girl is working and she'll take my shift-she never says no" you have gone dmad- but there is still hope. you have got to "grow some ball":D and say NO,NO,NO. best of luck on that-hope you can do it
  15. hope that your next week goes better. trust me when i say that it will be better. i remeber those days:eek: I too, enjoyed your story telling:) just remeber that is one of the reasons why we are here, nurses need nurses:kiss
