I am attending the RN program at WGTC near the end of my very first quarter. It is extremely competitive! I am in a class of 55. Not sure how many will be left after this quarter though. I had to jump thru quite a few hoops-but I made 99 on the NLN and that had to help. I have a couple of classmates who have to take 1-2 prerequ over this coming summer(they will not let you attend RN school during summer quarter) so they will let you in-but I think A&P 1&2 as well as Microbiology have to be completed already. They are starting a spring program in 2010. No one has anwered you because we do not have enough time to come up for air-let alone get on the computer(for fun) Good luck with your plans!

Quick note-I do not know why all the &nbsp crap showed up in my post-I am sorry about that! I certainly did not type it that way!

60 English questions, some were vocabulary definitions, others were passages (reading comprehension) where you answered questions about the passages. 60 science, multiple choice, if I was unsure of the answer, I could typically eliminate two answers and up my odds. A lot of stuff I remembered from highschool in the 80s... 40 math problems, fractions, decimals, cannot remember-mostly your basic 7th grade math. I think that it was 4 hours long-it has been almost a year since I've taken it though! Don't drink much so you will not be distracted by the need to pee... Keep in mind that about 15 problems will be thrown in as "test" problems for possible use in future tests and will not count. I came across several that blew my mind in the science section and spent a lot of time fretting over them and trying to come up with the correct answers-completely forgetting that there were some "test" questions thrown in- Your reaction to the test will be personal. Knowing mine (or anyone else's for that matter) will not help you. It seemed fine to me(other than the additional ?s that I forgot about during the test) while it really shook up a friend of mine. None of the questions were exactly like the ones in the review. But they were similar. Hint-when you do the review for vocab, if there are ANY words in the multiple choice selections that you do not recognize(not just the correct answer) , look them up as well and write them out. I did this and a few of the words that I took the time to learn showed up on there. Go ahead and take it. If you don't like your score, take it again until you do. Good luck!

Hey Janis, I'd be glad to tell you. I am starting the nursing program at WGTC this Fall. I took the pre-NLN last Oct and fortunately, made a 99. Here is how I studied: I bought a pre-NLN review book off half.com (the most recent edition or either it was the one that came right before that-not sure-and I sold it to a classmate after taking the test, so I cannot check) I copied (with a copier) all the tests in the book-never even wrote in the book. I'd take a test (not timing myself or anything) and score it. I would make extra copies of each test and retake the same test until I made a "100". I skipped around and did not study/take the same test one after another-I might take the 1st English test and score it, then work on the first Science, then math, then go back and retake the first english, etc. I also took all the practice tests in the first part of the book. I read the math formulas, etc in the study section and took notes on them (as a refresher-I was 39 and had been out of college since '91) The pre NLN was similar to the review book, but obviouly, not exactly like it. I aced the math and missed none-I attribute that to my studying. Start studying now. I studied for about 3 weeks before taking the test, spending 30 min to an hour per day just taking practice tests and scoring them. It worked for me. I did this all while working full time, raising a 3 year old, and keeping a goofy husband happy on top of that. It is not overwhelming if you just plod away at it like I did. If you have even longer before taking the test, you can spread it out more and just study 20 minutes or so per day. Make the commitment. If nursing is truly important to you, you will take the time to learn/relearn these basic academics so that you can be accepted into the program. Good luck to you! Beverly :wink2:

Each school should spell out the way they deal with the GPA clealy somewhere on their website. I know that WCTC in Waco GA goes strictly by the grades of a particular 5 classes and it does not matter if you took several a quarter (lucky you to have the time) or just one per quarter(full time employees with kids, moms with kids,etc.) "Points is points".(grammar messed up on purpose there)

I have just recently completed my interview for the nursing program that starts at my school Fall 2009. I hope to get my ADN and graduate after Spring quarter 2011. I want to get a job in our local hospital's ER. After getting some experience, I'd be interested in trying Forensic, Psychiatric, or Hospice Nursing. I may find other areas that I am interested in, depending on what I am exposed to in the ER. I am already 40 and not really interested in management or the like, so I may stick with my ADN. But who really knows what will happen? I thought that I'd love teaching middle school and do that until retirement, but here I am in an entirely different field! People grow and change and life can throw curve balls... Best wishes in all your dreams coming true!!:redbeathe

I am betting that you were the youngest one there, with the dark hair-if I am remembering correctly! Thise site is great-you'll really enjoy it! Good luck with your results! Maybe we will be in the nursing program together. Were you happy with your interview? I had practiced answering all of the questions before, so it went pretty well for me. Now if they'll just call or send me a letter of acceptance!!

I bet that my reply is too late for you and if so, I apologize! I only have internet access here at work. No, you do not need a resume. You'll go in and sit, and the 3 ladies will take turns asking you the 5 questions. Everyone will get the same 5 questions. It is short and sweet! Best of luck!!

Okay Ladies and Gents: I had my interview for the West Central Technical College RN program this morning- I was the 2nd person to be interviewed. My buddy Vicki got to go first! They only asked 5 basic questions and I think that we both did really well. Were any of you on allnurses.com in the group of 12 with me? I had on a black suit (blazer & skirt) and beige blouse with pearls, and my hair in a bun. I am 40 and probably look like it! I was nervous, of course, but enjoyed the experience overall. The three ladies who did the interviewing were very gracious. They were also unflappable when the alarm in the office we were in started going off. And continued going off! It was pretty funny-but I figured that if anything, they'll remember me well because I was the one "who had to wait to answer when the alarm started going off". Good luck to the WCTC students who've yet to be interviewed. It was much less stressful than I had anticipated. I'm sure that you'll do well!:heartbeat

Whew!! Aren't you glad that you called? I would have sat on my hands getting increasingly more ticked and worried! Congrats! I'll let you know how they go on the Monday the 27th!

Awesome! When is your interview? Mine is this Monday the 27th between 9am-12pm. There is a group of 12 that will have that same time. Are you in that group? Yeah, I am nervous too!!But in a good way. It will be in a bad way about the time I walk into the room for the actual interview!!

Guess what, Thumper! I was WRONG about my score-I just looked back at my paperwork. My score was actually 70 points overall-I had 2 As, 2 Bs, and a C. I transferred the Bs and the C from college back 18 years ago-I kind of forgot what my grades were way back then. Anyway, you have a higher score than me, so I am sure that you will get an interview. Another friend emailed me a while ago and she got her interview letter today too and she has Monday for her interview as well. So be looking in your mailbox!!

Oh-it is too early for you to get nervous! I have a couple of friends with higher scores than me and as of today,they have not heard yet. I had a total of 71.5 points-50 for my pre-NLN score and three As, one B, and one C with my grades. I understand that they usually take a couple of weeks to mail out all of the letters. There should be 75 letters going out total. Good luck! I hope to see you in the Fall!

Hey- I was going to tell you that hopefulRN told me that her first quarter she had lecture one day per week for 4 hours, lab one day per week for 2 hours, and clinicals 2 days per week from 6:45am-2:45pm USUALLY- It sounded good to me. I actually pictured us doing clinicals every day and having classes ever day! Are you liking A&P? Did you mean that you are in love with the class? I took it with K for 193 and 194 (not sure of the new numbers!) and I enjoyed it! I taped the lectures and played the cassettes in my headphones while walking the mornings and in my car while running around town doing errands for work-that really helped me get the material since studying at home is distracting(3 yr old and husband that sometimes acts like one!) Hopefully we'll be in the program together!!

HopefulRN2010, Thanks for all the answers! I cannot yet send a private message, so I am having to post my reply. I actually feel better hearing about the nursing program schedule. I just hope that they send me to Tanner for my clinicals the first quarter! Getting up before 5am to make it to Atlanta will be tough for me! I am getting excited now! Hi Blessed: I'm sorry-I do not know how to repsind to your private message. I have not had enough posts to do my own. I have not heard anything yet. Deadline was APril 1, then they have to go through everything(probably 150-225 applicants) then choose somewhere between 50 and 80 to send out interview letters to. I assume 2-3 weeks wait. But I do not know-I have no one to ask. I tried sending questions to hopefulrn2010(current nursing student at WCTC) but I have not heard from her.She may be out of town, unable to treply(like me) or not wanting to fool with me! It is too early to get stressed-save that for when you are counting down the days for your interview!!

Hi Fifth & Fabo: I am not in the nursing program yet-I just applied a few weeks ago (deadline is April 1st) I am awaiting my real interview-I am not sure if they'll email me or send me a notice via the post office. Still nervous about the real interview!! I really hope that I am accepted, but nothing is a "given" of course. You are very welcome on the insight-I enjoy sharing information with other nurses-to-be!

Hey again! Bear with me-my internet keeps cutting out today. The mock interview including the following questions: why are you interested in nursing? why would we want you in our program?(I gave some strengths there) Tell me about a time in your life when you showed compassion. How do you manage tasks?(write lists!) How do you prioritize your lists? What type of degree are you pursuing? What agency accredits our RN program here at WCTC? What test do you have to take upon completion of our program in order to become licensed as an RN? What is the hardest part of returning to school later for you (I was 39 when I started on the 4 prerequs that I needed in order to apply for nursing school) There were probably a few that I have forgotten. They also checked my appearance, grooming, dress, body language and posture, eye contact, behavior(alert,interested,confident?), how I fielded questions, was I clear, did I cite examples,etc. Two people did the interview, a male and a female (I do not know if I can tell names, so I won't) They critiqued my interview and gave me suggestions afterward. I made a "99" on the NLN. :wink2:

I'm sorry BLESSES-I did not mean to ignore your question! I did the mock interview a couple of weeks ago. We had to sign up ahead of time. You need to call the "one stop career center"(name?) at the Murphy campus to see when they'll offer them again. It was enlightening! A little scary, too, but I am sure that it was helpful. Fifth&Fabo: I did not have a CD with the NLN guide that I purchased off Amazon a few months ago. The more you have to work with, the better off you'll probably be!Try looking online for just the cd-you may have some luck! You might also post a "wanted" poster on a couple of bulletin boards around Murphy and get one used and "cheap" from another nursing student!

Okay-first day in nursing school this fall, I'm yelling out "are Thumper or Blessed here with me?":coollook: I hope to see you both! With our GPAs (mine's 3.5) and NLNs (99) we should all be there! Best wishes to both of you!
