Decadron Question
I can think of a side effect.....give it fast and see if the patient can resist the urge to scratch the burning itching you just caused in their crotch.

Is healthcare a right or privilege?
HM2VikingRN, your article is from FDR's extra bill of rights that he was pushing...FDR was one of the biggest expanders of government there ever was. Most of his policies expanded the role of government, or were deemed unconstitutional. He wanted the right to a job, the right to healthcare, right to education etc. All being originated or given by the government. Again, the government is not the bestower of rights. God is. "certain unalienable rights, endowed by our Creator".

HC reform bill passes
If this bill is so good for America, why did it get no republican support, and not even all of the democrats support? Why did it have to resort to passing only the Senate version when the house hated it? Why did they have to use reconciliation to fix it? Why does the majority of America oppose it? The federal government mandating that I buy something and then penalizing me or fining me if I dont sounds like something that Russia would come up with. If America wants Socialism, and Marxism, just say so, lets see whose ideas win. No one would go for it out in the open. Marxism is communism whose main idea is,"From each according to his ability, to each according to his need ". Sounds eerily like our current tax system doesnt it?

Is healthcare a right or privilege?
You cant have it both ways, if it is a right, you CANNOT deny it. If that 99 year old needs a new heart, and healthcare is a right, they should get it. If it is a commodity or a good that can be purchased, you would have to pay for it, whether privately or through insurance. You just proved my point.

Healthcare reform
The interstate commerce clause is the most abused clause in the constitution, congress thinks it can regulate everything and it is justified by it. It is bogus. Interstate regulation was initially meant to "make regular" commerce between states, not dictate every aspect of our lives through regulation. Congress will do whatever it can to gain power, and it just grabbed a huge chunk against the will of the people it claims to represent.

Health Care Vote- Is there anyone else as confused as me?
This bill is not about healthcare at all, it is to redistribute wealth. That is what max baucus of montana said, and what vice president Biden said. It takes from those who have, and gives to those who have not. That is marxism. The bigger government gets, the more it controls everything, and that always equals less freedom. No matter what corrupt party is in charge, bigger government is a hindrance to a free people. The constitution was put in place to LIMIT the government, and what it could do to you. No where in it does it give congress the power to mandate that the american people purchase anything, even if it is supposedly to our own good. That is governmental control, and is on its face unconstitutional.

Is healthcare a right or privilege?
To answer this question you have to realize where our rights come from. In the Declaration of Independence it says we are endowed by our CREATOR with unalienable rights...it doesnt say that our government endowed them to us. Healthcare is a good, or a service that is purchased, which puts it in the category of a privelege. the right to free speech, for instance, doesnt cost any money, and doesnt have to be provided by anybody, it is inherent....just as our founders said. If healthcare were a right, how is it that it can be denied to those in Canada, England, or elsewhere where the patient is too old, or too sick? for example, the 99 year old pt with a failing heart that needs a heart transplant? Is that pt going to get it?If the patient has to meet criteria to deserve the "right" its not a right.

Trends in CRNA Compensations in Future
Your salary should be dictated by what amount someone is willing to pay for your services....not some politician sitting in a desk somewhere. This is a perfect illustration of the problems that occur when government gets too big. when the market is over-regulated, the control gets taken out of the providers hands and placed in the hands of big government.

New Medicare rules for endo TIVA or MAC
Does anyone know the specifics of the new medicare adjustments to payments for endo's? Medicare is apparently refusing to pay for anything that is not a mac. Apparently there is a built in charge for sedation with the physician charge for the procedure and they will refuse to pay if an anesthesia provider submits to be reimbursed? Anyone?

Should we reverse Cis-atracurium
you may not dose just to appease some lawyer, but that same lawyer is looking for anything, no matter how small or insignificant it is, to screw you six ways to sunday...

Should we reverse Cis-atracurium

CRNA's! Did your program have a strong clinical component?
I second qwigly's voice...I too went to kaiser and have never regretted it. I have worked now in several different settings and felt very comfortable giving all types of anesthesia immediately upon graduation....not the case with other CRNA's Ive worked with from other schools.

Questions about USC and Kaiser So. Los Angeles CRNA schools
there is also samuel merrit in the bay area. I went to kaiser and the average gpa was 3.5. Kaiser likes not only to look at grades but what kind of person you are, not just some book worm robot.

An example of a terrifying moment
how about doing an ERCP prone on a 350 lb patent, when gastroenterologist rips his scope out so fast it extubated my patient and caused laryngospasm. He left, Nurse left to see next patent, I was in Endo sweet with a x-ray tech, and a xray tech student and thats it. had to turn her over, suction, paralyze, and reintubate with the help of only the techs....

Socialized Medicine
The government is not the answer to anything! The government, no matter who is in charge, sucks at being effecient and providing anything...Medicare, medicaid, social security, the post office, etc. all sound wonderful, but in reality are unable to be sustained financially...none of them work in the sense of being able to be self sustaining without sucking the taxpayer dry. So what is the governments suggestions for the increasing cost of healthcare? another government option? it too, like any other government program will cost much, much, much more than anyone thinks...And it will be terrible at managing it, just like they are terrible at managing everything they run...If the government could cut out waste in any of its existing programs and run them even close to effeciently they might be able to have a conversation with the american people, but nothing they tell us can be taken seriously. They need to get out of every little aspect of our lives. If the goal is to help the less fortunate, then lets do that. Why does the government have to be the mediator between us? If you want to pay more taxes to help those in need, wouldnt it be more effecient and appropriate for you to keep more of your hard earned money instead, and then you give to those in need directly? We all need to be individually responsible for ourselves without being so dependent on some government who doesnt care about us. That is Democrats and Republicans...they just take turns letting us down....The smaller they are, the less damage they can both do to us as a whole.

Where can I go to find a great CRNA job?
gaswork is far and away the biggest and best website for CRNA's looking for work. my advice as one who has used it often, is to fill in all of the information, especially salary, and dont write in "competetive".

Tuition Rankings?
Kaiser is six on the US world and news list, and charges a yearly tuition of roughly 4,ooo-5,000 dollars. you will also pay in-state tuition to cal state fullerton, but overall very inexpensive for a wonderful school.
-
CRNA-what is your day like?
The work situations are as varied as the CRNA's who work in them, you can be an 8 hr shift worker with no nights, weekends, call, or holidays. Or you can be a more independent work when they need you, all hours of the day or night kind of CRNA. One thing for sure, I've never met a CRNA who regretted being a CRNA.
-
How many CRNA's here do moonlighting work?
moonlighting is basically locum tenens. Typical locums carry their own insurance or the agency that places them picks it up. There are thousands of CRNA's that do this. In the right market, you can charge a nice sum for daily work.

CRNA Insurance
I paid my premium yesterday. Im with Medical Protective Company and have a claims made policy. I work as an independent contractor and am covered at the arizona state minimum of 1,000,000-3,000,000. My policy costs 5600 a year.
-
CRNA continuing salary
completely depends on the type of job. it might increase over time as an ordinary employee, or it could go down due to supply and demand. as an independent contractor you may even have the ability to set your own hourly wage depending on the situation, and how much control you really want.
