Anyone get 75 questions and good pop up fail?
I just took my exam this morning.....got all 205 questions! Left feeling like I had been hit with a mack truck! But...got home and got the 'good pop up'! So I am optimistically celebrating this weekend (unofficially, of course) LOL

New Pre-Nursing Student Here.....
Yes, I'm scheduled to re-take DosCalc in the spring along with Pathophysiology. After the spring semester, I will have completed ALL classes (required and elective) that I can take without actually being ACCEPTED to the program. So...once I get in, I can focus solely on the nursing core classes to finish. Let's hope I get into the fall program.... Good luck to you! Brett

New Pre-Nursing Student Here.....
Hey all.... Found this old thread of mine and thought I would update it to report my status. I applied for the RSU program this spring, but didn't make it in. I was told that I missed getting in by 1 grade. I made a B in Dosage Calc, only by 1.5 points! CRAP! Anyway, I continued on....At the completion of the Fall 2010 semester I will have taken all the pre-reqs I can take for the RSU program. I will be applying again in the spring as well as taking some elective classes for the BSN degree there (the only ones I can take without actually being in the program) along with re-taking Dosage Calc to get an A. Not sure what my options will be if I don't get in. Transfer to another school will cost me time and money since I'd have to take classes to be eligible for their programs. All in all its been good so far.....all my science grades have been A's and a couple B's in other classes, so I'm sitting pretty good in that respect. I'm just ready to experience things for myself and not just hear about it from all the nursing students. Hope everyone is doing well.....

Prospective nursing student.... outlook for RN jobs???
Read the reply. I agree with you totally, that would leave a bad taste in my mouth as well. Just remember a few things: 1. You're just another number to ANY school...and its all about the money to them. The more money they can get, the better off they are...hence, the different pre-reqs. 2. Don't let people get you off course of what you want. I've noticed that in nursing programs there are a LOT of alpha personalities and the all think they know EVERYTHING! Don't let that get to you...just stay focused. As far as names.....************* in the main Nursing office is the 'queen bee' so to speak. She might be the one you talked to. She's the one that ranks everyone and determines who gets in. Sometimes she's a little dry, but a great lady overall. ******* is my advisor and one of the Nursing instructors. I've only spoken with her once, but she was very nice! Like I said before, I've also got a degree....so I'm going back and taking the science classes to be eligible. You should really consider RSU...its a great program. However, a caveat about the ranking system to get in. They really give more weight to those that have taken all their classes there (especially the ranked classes: Dosage, A&P, Biology, etc) Even if you have all A's in these classes from other colleges, if someone else has the same grade...they will get in before you because they took the classes on RSU campus. This spring they had the most applicants ever for their program (approx. 350 from what I was told). I don't see it getting any better....but still easier than to get into than OU or TCC.

Prospective nursing student.... outlook for RN jobs???
I'm at RSU in Claremore. Their entrance requirements weren't as extensive as TCC or OU. Since this is my second degree, I learned how to weed through all the bs and just jump through their hoops to get what I want. I've taken all of the pre-reqs that I can as of next spring.....so if I don't get into the fall program, I'm pretty much dead in the water on stuff I can take without actually BEING in the program. Stay in touch!

Prospective nursing student.... outlook for RN jobs???
I'm also a returning bachelor's-holding student going for my nursing degree here in Tulsa. Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it too much. By the time we graduate in 2+ years things will have changed anyway. Look at it this way...there will always be need for nurses. This is a good solid profession! Keep your mind open and be willing to go where the jobs are if they aren't in Tulsa....that's my plan. Everyone's gonna have an opinion, so you'll get a hundred. Just focus on school and doing well, and worry about the jobs later. Good Luck!!!!!

Would you ever be a scab?
The only ones that benefit from a union strike....is the union itself! not the members! My dad was union and they broke into our house and tore stuff up, solely because he had to cross the picket line to get a loan when my grandfather was dying!!!! The unions can stick it as far as I'm concerned! I'd cross the line in a minute.....I'm supporting me and mine! Unions have outlived their usefulness and are nothing more than bullies. Sorry, it was a sore spot and a soap box moment for me. ;-)

Nursing School...How to support my family
thanks for the reply....let me add a little extra to the scenario. We own our own business as well. We have a screenprinting business (shirts, promotional items, etc), so my wife spends our evenings and free time working on that. So, the extra hours or 2nd job is essentially that. It pays for itself at the moment but doesn't offer much surplus income to help. She works full time as I do....so when I quit my full time job, I'll either have to have enough money through loans or get a part time job....but they all seem to pay CRAP! Almost not worth the time after taxes.

Nursing School...How to support my family
Hey again all...hope everyone's studies are going well! I'm in my last semester of pre-reqs before I find out if I get into RSU's program in the fall. I've been utilizing some student loans for tuition, books etc. I'm currently working full time while in school, easy enough...i'm making A's in my classes. However, if I'm accepted the nursing program takes up significant more time and I'm certain I won't be able to work as much...or WANT to! My fear is that I won't be able to get enough loans to support my family (replacing my current salary) while in school...what do I need to do? Not sure where to look for this type of assistance. scholarships are few and far between, and I need a generous amount to make sure that bills, etc are taken care of. Can anyone share similar situations or solutions that you've found? I can't see myself sacrificing my family's just to satisfy my own dreams without making sure they're ok. HELP!!!!

Bad news about TCC RN program
I'm completing my pre-reqs for the nursing program there at TCC and I've heard the same thing from a couple friends IN the bridge program already! They treat them like crap! One friend of mine, an LPN for 5 years and made straight A's all through school, is finding herself barely passing some of these classes!!! Absolutely ridiculous how they don't empower the students to learn more instead of belittling them....

New Pre-Nursing Student Here.....
I took my online class at Tulsa Community College. They use Blackboard, which is an online student / class resource so you can have a class email, discussion boards, etc. The instructor posts notes, discussion forums, exams, quizzes, paper assigments, etc. It was pretty easy to navigate through. Good Luck!

Did anyone apply for RSU fall 2009 program?

New Pre-Nursing Student Here.....
It went GREAT! Ended up with an A for Biology and a B for my online Psychology class (one test killed my A). I'm looking into the program at RSU. Fewer pre-requisites to get in. Heard its a good program.

New Pre-Nursing Student Here.....
yes, i've heard that you can sit for the LPN exam after the first year of nursing school. Although, I'm sure there would be some study time required for the NCLEX.
