    Fish Scales

Actually, the grid or template is called a fish bone (not a fish scale). That is because the BMP (basic metabolic panel) grid looks like a fish bone: Na+|Cl-|BUN ---|---|---- K+ |CO2|Creat Notice how the template looks like a fish bone skeleton: --|--|--

Hello Term 3 Students, I am currently in Term 2 going into Term 3 in the Summer. Would anyone please email me the syllabus for OB and Peds? Registration is tomorrow at 2:00 and we think it would be helpful in making our decision. My email address is mango252000-an at yahoo dot com. I would be most grateful. Thank you very much!

Best place to buy stethoscopes from....

I checked out the Littmann sellers mentioned both on this website and on 3M's site (http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Littmann/stethoscope/purchase/where-to-buy/ ). If engraving is not important to you, the very cheapest bottom line, to-the-door price for a new Littmann Cardiology III stethoscope is $151.75 on eBay from a seller named "sv-products". They have sold close to 6,000 items and have a 99.9% feedback rating. They offer them in most colors and shipping is free. And they sell it in the Buy-It-Now format so you don't have to play bidding and/or waiting games. That price beats all others when shipping is included. I received mine within five days and it arrived in a new, sealed box - absolutely perfect. If cost is the bottom line for you as it was for me, this was the cheapest I could find for a new model after a lot of research.

I am finishing Term 1 and would like to get a start on some of the reading for Term 2 over the holidays. I have noticed that most of the courses do not start with Chapter 1 in the text. They start somewhere in the middle of the book and jump around. So I need the syllabus for Adult Health I, Psych and Leadership for Fall 2010. Would someone please email them to me? (Doesn't matter which instructor you had.) Please send me a private message and I will private message you back my email address. Thanks very much and Happy Thanksgiving! Good luck on final exams to you all!

Things could change, but we are required to wear white uniforms purchased from Meridys: http://www.meridys.com/, Pass code FSCJ7627. They are white tops with an FSCJ patch on the sleeve, white pants and white shoes. We are also required to have a FSCJ logo name pin from Meridys. We did not have to purchase the pants or shoes from Meridys - we could get them anywhere as long as they were all white and leather (no canvas or fabric and no colors). I did buy the pants at Meridys but purchased my shoes locally. Meridys sizes do not run true - definitely take your measurements and use Meridys size charts before ordering: http://www.meridys.com/images/stories/size_charts/4001_size_chart5.jpg We also had to purchase a FSCJ blue polo from Florida Specialty to wear with khaki pants during presentations and on the day prior to clinicals. (The day prior to clinicals, you go to the hospital to get your patient's information.) Florida Specialty is located at 4237 Salisbury Road, Suite 401, 904-367-0044. Again, next term FSCJ could change everything so you may want to wait before you buy.

Note that they are subject to change every semester. For Fall 2010 Term I students, the Clinicals choices were Orange Park Medical Center, Baptist Nassau, Baptist Downtown, Memorial and St. Vincents.

Hi everyone! Good luck with your applications! Here is a little bit of information on how things worked for us. Registration was a portion of a full-day orientation. We had orientation on Monday, August 16 with classes starting two weeks later on Monday, August 30. The last thing that was done as part of the morning session was to distribute the schedules. On the schedule there were 14 sections, each holding 12 students. Shown on the schedule were the names of the courses, the days/times when they meet, the instructors' names, and the name of the hospital for the Clinicals course. Two of the 14 sections were the Nights/Weekends sections and one section was a restricted section whose purpose was never identified, so the Day students had 11 or so remaining sections from which to choose. Right after the schedules were handed out, we were given a 30-minute lunch break. When we returned, after a few more announcements, the lottery began. So all in all, we had only about an hour to decide which section we would like to join. Of course, if you drew a high number in the lottery, your first, second and third choice was probably not available. We have the following courses: Dosage and I.V. Calculations - self study (start now!) Medical Terminology - self study (start now!) Techniques - 5 hours each week - first 6 weeks of term Clinicals - 6 hours each week - same day as Techniques - second 6 weeks of term Pharmacology - 3 hours each week - hybrid class (meets "online" about 1/4 of the term) Health Assessment - 3 hours each week Concepts - 3 hours each week - hybrid class Here is how your week will work if you are in a "Day" section: Monday - we have at least one exam (and sometimes two exams) every Monday. The exams are always 50 multiple choice questions and are always one hour except for final exams. Final exams are cumulative, 100 multiple choice questions and are allowed two hours. Our exams start at 9:15 am and on days we have two exams, the second exam starts at 10:30 am. Tuesday - Friday - we have two of the 3-hr classes on one day (9-12 and 1-4), the last 3-hr class one day (either 9-12 or 1-4), Techniques on one day (8-1 or 8-1:30 if your class votes to take a lunch break), and one free day. When you move to Clinicals, you will start an hour earlier and go 7-1 or 7-1:30, depending upon if your class has a lunch break. Hope this helps you know what to expect. Good luck everyone!

No - we didn't have any exams the first day. I guess we are teacher's pet class. :) We had a Dosage Calculations review class the very first Monday. Both exams (Dosage Calc #1 and Medical Terminology) are scheduled for next Monday. Can you confirm that the Medical Terminology test was all multiple-choice when you took it?

    FSCJ Fall 2010 ACCEPTED

Yeah, I was wondering about that. I also heard that said at the Review. It is worth 75 points in Nursing Techniques, so 1.5 points per question? (I wonder if that is really the correct number of questions.)

Do we know for certain the format of the Medical Terminology (Medical Language) test? Are all of the questions in multiple-choice format? Or are there some fill-in-the-blank questions? Also, how many questions?
