I live in the Kansas City area, and new grad LPNs can expect to make 14-19ish an hour right out of school, depending on where you work (LTC pays more). New grad RNs on the floor in the hospital start @ around 21/hr without any shift bonus.

1. Kansas City area. 2. LPN, working on bridge (slowly) 3. There are tons of jobs here. I see alot of open RN jobs when Im looking for PT LPN work. I have yet to apply for PT work and not hear back from every single place. I have 2 yrs of experience.

I have been a nurse for almost 2 years, and it has happened twice for me already. Both times I was in scrubs, and both cops have noticed and asked me about it. I never TRIED to play the "card", but they were happy to let me go! On a side note, I am mistaken for an MD often. I am a male, 34, and have salt-n-pepper hair...so Im guessing they think Im older than I am??

I work for a pediatrician, so I see this ALOT. It bugs the crap outta me! On the other hand, I see so many other things that bug me even more. Parents are always telling their kids "OMG, your getting fat!" The look on the poor kids face kills me....

I am a newer LPN (1.5yr) and make $16hr in an office. I worked a 2nd fulltime job for awhile (32hr w/e) in a group home setting, and made $20hr. Any LTC kind of setting in the KC area should be 18-20 and hr.

This is what bothers me about LTC sometimes. I was out of LPN school about a month, and I interviewed for a PT job at a LTC facility. I was told I would have TWO days of training, and would then have 60 patients by myself (with 2 CNA's). Really? Two days and then Im on my own? No thanks.

There are plenty of jobs here in the KC area. Every hospital has listings on their site, and I have new grad friends who have found jobs. I graduated with my LPN last May, and had a job 2 weeks before I graduated. I actually work 2 FT jobs at the moment, and have had several calls in the past few months from potential employers. Jobs are out there...you just have to find them! :) And since people ALWAYS wanna know, I make $16/hr in a doctors office M-F, and $20/hr in a group home on the weekend shift.

I took the test last September, passing with the minimum questions. I can remember almost half of the questions being about "who do you see first?" Very fed med q's, and I knew those.

I am currently a student, and my DUI from 2002 showed up on my background check. I was allowed into the program and into the clinical sites. My program director said when I apply for my license, the most I should have to do is send in proof it was all taken care of. I hope it all works out for you...

Kansas City area hospitals are hiring. KU Med just had an advertisement on the news the other night looking for Med Surg nurses. GREAT place to work.

I think if I were in your shoes, bringing it back later would be the LAST thing on my mind. I would have either turned around, or at the VERY least stopped and called my employer. Good luck.

Maybe its just me, but I think this will make you a better nurse in the long run. You've said you retain the information, so something is working. I know that it may be stressful, but I bet you will be able to think better under pressure after she is done with you! Good luck in the future!

I understand what you are asking. The school IS accredited, but just not accredited by NLNAC. The school I am in (RN) is not NLNAC accredited, and everyone that has graduated has found a job. We are state and regionally accredited. The CCNE is another accredidation body for nursing schools. I could have went to the 2 local CC's that are NLNAC, but I will be DONE and licensed at my current school before I would have gotten in there. If you have a choice, going to the school with the most/best accredidation would be your best bet. With that being said, there are plenty of GREAT schools that are not NLNAC accredited. As far as advancing your degree, some colleges WANT credits from NLNAC or CCNE schools, but it is not always required. I know in my area (major metro area in the Midwest) there are several BSN, MSN, CRNA, and PhD programs that I can get into. (I know I still have to apply, but I mean they will accept my degree from my current non NLNAC school) I am going to get my BSN from a NLNAC program, as alot of masters programs want that. Do what is best for you. Work and study hard, pass the NCLEX, and get a wonderful job!

I was wondering if it would be an advantage for me to take various certification courses while I am a student? I want to be really proactive about my education, and think it would be a great idea. I have taken BLS for health care providers already, as was thinking about taking ACLS classes. Is that something you would advise? I was laid off from my job last month, and will remain on unemployment for a few more months. I have a little extra free time, so I thought this might me a good idea. I am also taking a course in Phlebotomy later this year at a local hospital, and hope to gain employment in that field while I am finishing school. I know most new nurses don't have alot of training with needles, so I think that experience would give me a leg up! Does this sound ok? Or am I completely nuts, and should just wait until I'm hired somewhere? Thanks for the help.

There are plenty of new grad positions in KC right now. I know at least one hospital that isnt hiring until May, but Im sure they only hire twice a year (new grads). Im just getting started in school, but I keep an eye on openings around here. Heck, move to KC! There seems to be plenty of openings, and I think we pay a bit better than STL anyway!

Howdy....first post...woo hoo! I has orientation last week as well, and am enrolled in the nursing program. Are you in PD this month? Kind of wondering if were in class together.
