Glucose Monitoring and treatment time
I'm wondering if your facility has a policy on the time between taking a BG reading and treating it. At my former employer, you take a reading a treat within the hour. Where I currently work, night shift takes the BG reading at 4:00 AM and day shift treats that reading sometime after 6:30 AM. My supervisor has not brought me the policy and procedure manual so I haven't been able to see if we have a specific policy. I think waiting 2+ hours and treating is too long. If you have access to post a copy of that policy I would love to see it so I can take a copy to my supervisor. Thanks, Anna

Experience > than BSN? Or Vice versa?
I got a job as a tech while I was in my RN-ASN program. My hospital hired me before graduation. A friend of mine quit the same program I was in to go through another program to get her BSN. I have been working as an RN since February of 09. She graduated with her BSN in May of 2010. She didn't find a job until last month. (oct 2010) I finished my BSN in September. So, for me getting a job would be the priority. She didn't have any more luck finding a job just because she had a BSN. Good luck to you no matter what you choose!

Awkward area to dress: adjacent Labia majora
I was going to suggesst the disposable mesh panties that most hospitals provide. They should be snug enough to hold the dressing in place.

ASN RN to BSN Holistic Nursing Action Plan?
I have been an ASN RN for about 2 years now. I work in a cardiac/PVD hopital. I am getting ready to finish my BSN and making a mad dash for last minute papers. I am to write a "holisitc nursing action plan" for a pt with terminal cancer. How does this differ from a regular care plan? URGH I hate care plans!! Thanks for any help!

ASN TO BSN, Need help with paper.
Thank you. I could include the neurologist, I just wasn't sure if it would overlap the information the genetic counsler would give them. Plus another section of the paper wants us to cover diagnosis, ttreatment and prognosis so I'm trying to save that info. I have all the info for the rest of the paper it was just the care team part that is throwing me off. I can easily give 3-5 for after the birth. Mental Health professional was an awesome suggestion. Thanks for getting me started!

ASN TO BSN, Need help with paper.
I am writing a paper on genetics. The case study involves a couple that just found out through pre-natal testing that their baby has Tay-Sachs. The first task is to identify 3-5 members of an interdisciplinary team from whom I can obtain information for the couple's first visit. Yes the tasks are vague. I'm lost really. I mean, who would they be talking to besides the high risk OB and a genetic counsler? In the scenario, I am the case manager. Thanks for any help. Obviously my mind is just not open to completing this paper.

This was a question on our test today. What do you think the answer is?
Also you are answering as textbook answers not real life. THe questions were poorly worded. YOu shouldn't use sarcasm with alzheimers pts. Humor ok, sarcasm no. Also reorient instead of challenge. Don't ya love school?

The whole truth and nothing but the truth..
I was helping a pt to use the urinal in bed. (he had a cardiac cath and couldn't move leg for 6 hrs) I had some trouble finding his member under the blankets and gown. I kinda said hmm, where are you, mostly to myself and he was like what do you mean where am I?? I stammered and said I just meant that it's hard to see, it's dark down there. Not that funny except the patient was african american. He laughed at me so hard as I continued to stammer and turn red and try to explain that I just meant the room wasn't well lit. He finally said just stop talking and kept laughing! It still makes my face red to tell anyone that story!

? For those that use Alaris pumps
Thanks for the replies. Our Docs don't give us a rate either. We have a facility protocol. We usually start at 75ml/h then bump to 125 after 15 minutes. I do like the Alaris pumps better than others I have used. The reason I even asked the question is because I was reading some material the other day that said to start the infusion at 5ml/h! I thought surely they left off the 7.

Nursing and Traffic Violations?!? SERIOUSLY
As a former insurance salesman the only connection I can see between the ticket and dependent or child abuse would be seatbelt violations. Even though they don't count against you for insurance or points on your drivers license (at least in Indiana) they still show on your violations.

What is your flow rate for blood transfusions? Initial and after 15 minutes? Thanks.
