Simmons FNP Sept 2017
It sounds like you applied to the RN to MSN bridge program? I did also, I am waiting to hear. I am nervous because I owe money to another school and they won't release my transcripts until I pay the balance in full. So, I am now trying to figure out how I can pay the balance so I can start in September if I am accepted. Good luck to you! Hopefully we will be classmates!

MSN-Leadership/Management April 1st start?
I am tentatively starting RN to MSN leadership on 5/1. If I can't then I will shoot for 6/1.

Capella University
Prior to yesterday, I was leaning toward Chamberlain but I talked to Capella and I was impressed. The rep seemed very low pressure and easy going and even waived the application fee, which I did not ask for. I love that many credits will transfer that other schools have not accepted due to differences in accreditation. I am concerned that the fact that I won't have to take statistics could hurt me in the future if I chose to go somewhere else for MSN/FNP. If I go here for my bsn and like it, I may just go on with the same school. So, does anyone have any idea how this "skipping classes" may affect my future choices? Thanks!

Capella vs Chamberlain for RN-BSN online?
I am glad I read this. I wish there was more here. I have been leaning toward Chamberlain and then talked to Capella today. I was impressed with the rep on the phone and a lot of what she said. I loved the fact that the higher levels of math wouldn't be required but I did worry about that for later on since I do want to do FNP. It's been almost 2 years. Does anyone have any new input?

Nurse pay in Jacksonville?
Two years later, any updates on Jacksonville pay? Specifically experienced RNs at Baptist?

Need to vent!
Thanks for your thoughts. I did talk toy NM this morning and she was totally supportive of me and the patient. I feel so much better!

Why do mean/crabby people become nurses??
This sounds so much like a co-worker of mine that I gave report to this morning (3 hours ago) my head still hurts!!

Need to vent!
I'm sorry if this annoys people, but I have to vent because I'm so frustrated. And it's a long post...There is a nurse who is new to my telemetry unit(but not a new nurse). She has been there since February and is getting more and more abrasive. She is really just rude. Yesterday morning I gave reprt to her on several patients. When I came back last night I found out that one patient "fired" her. He said she was rude and wouldn't bring pain meds when he requested them. I had another patient who was a DNI. When giving report back to me last night, I asked if the patient was alert and oriented and she said, "She is a DNI and I don't care about that" I was astounded. I stated I at least like to have a baseline. During the day the patient became a DNR, I was not told of this, pretty important info! I found the DNR on the patient's chart so it was not a problem, but it could have been. During the night the patient's bp bottomed out. I put the patient in Trendelenberg twice, and successfully reversed the hypotension. The patient also desatted and took quite a bit of work to get her back to normal. When I informed the nurse of all that I did this morning she said, "I don't understand. Why are you doing all this, putting her in Trendelenberg and stuff?" I said, "well I couldn't give her fluids and I wanted to get her bp back up" and she said, "She is a DNR. She is here to die. Why would you do all that?" I was so shocked. She is not a palliative bed. She may be going home with hospice, but she is not a hospice patient yet. But she is not a do not treat. The more I think about it the more upset I get. I will most definitely be meeting with my nurse manager in the morning. Am I right about going to management? This is only one example, I have had other patient care issues but this one is the biggest. Thanks!

Help! Possibly relocating to DFW area
Thanks Tammy. I am going to try and transfer, for sure. But I will probably keep my options open just in case. I can't wait to have an answer about my husband's job so we can get on with our lives. I applied to the ED and CCU before all this happened and now the ED has called for an interview. I will still go through with the interview, and if I get the job I will probably accept it so I can transfer to an ED there, hopefully. Thanks again!

Help! Possibly relocating to DFW area
Thank you so much. Texas seems like a very friendly place I'm going to concentrate on not looking at jobs, homes, and worrying about the difference in cost of living until I know for sure. I have spent hours looking for homes and jobs and it may not even happen But that's me, I'm a planner and a worrier.

Help! Possibly relocating to DFW area
Thanks for that info. I am glad to hear you are happy with HCA. I love my HCA facility. We have great management. The other HCA facilities in my area don't have employees who are as happy as mine. And the 401K is so good, I don't want to give that up. I will look into HCA and the others when we come to visit. We should know next week if we are coming or not. Until then I'm going to try not to think about it so much. I'm a planner so I keep finding myself trying to figure it all out before we know what is going to happen. Gotta stop that! lol

Help! Possibly relocating to DFW area
Thanks! I'm am sort of looking forward to the move. A fresh start can be good! But all my family is here and I am a family girl. It will be tough. I live in Florida so I don't think the heat will bother me too much. I'm more concerned about the cold winters! Lol! Thanks again!

Help! Possibly relocating to DFW area
Thanks, I have googled it a few times now. The problem is I can't quickly separate the HCA facilities from the non-HCA facilities, except for the university facilities. So, I guess I will look at the universities for opportunities apart from HCA. I am happy with my HCA facility, but if they have a shady reputation there I don't want to be a part of it. I have read on this site that it's difficult to obtain RN jobs in DFW, I hope that trend is ending.

Thank you so much for that info! All of it! What are some other employers in the area?

Help! Possibly relocating to DFW area
My husband is most likely being relocated to DFW area. We have never been to Texas. We have no idea what area is best for a family. I currently work for HCA. How are the HCA facilities in the area? Which is the best to work for? Should I consider another employer? What is the pay for exerienced RNs? I have heard Flower Mound is nice, but clueless as to where that is in relation to everything else. Also, we have a 14 year old about to start high school, what is the best school district?

LPN starting first day in correctional nursing
I know this is a late post. I just want to say that I love working in corrections! I worked my way through nursing school as an MA at a large county jail in Florida. I absolutely loved it. I had autonomy, flexible hours, better than average pay for MA, and a fairly fun atmosphere to work in. Fun, but safe. When I got my nursing license I was promoted to RN in the same facility. My intentions were never to be a corrections nurse and pursued a hospital job quite aggressively. I have now been working med-surg for 4 months and while there have been rewarding moments, I find myself missing corrections. So much so that I called for hours as a part time employee last week and right off the bat was offered 2 shifts. I missed the camaraderie with the officers and other medical staff, and I really feel like I have the ability to touch lives. At the hospital I feel like the dilaudid queen, running from room to room with the coveted vial. Of course the jail has more than it's fair share of drug seekers, but you can honestly turn them away, knowing that you are doing right by the patient. I guess I am feeling a little disenchanted by my med-surg experience and I'm doing a little soul searching now. I highly recommend anyone interested in corrections to give it a try! Be safe, be strong, follow the rules and you will be fine! I still don't know where I will end up but I am glad I still have my part time gig at the jail

Concorde vs. Keiser vs. Sanford Brown (Jacksonville)
Worksource pays for SBI but only the amount that they pay toward fscj or sjrcc, so it doesn't cover the whole cost. Now that I have been working on the floor for a month I am happy to say that I dont feel slighted in my education.

Anyone work at Orange Park Medical Center?
DNo experience, ASN! There is definitely hope! Don't give up! I do have a job in corrections, where I already worked before I got my license. When I got my license the promoted me, but that is in a clinic and not quite the same. I don't know if that helped or not. Good luck. My classmate just interviewed at Baptist South with no experience.

Sanford Brown Jacksonville

Anyone work at Orange Park Medical Center?
Two classmates just got offers from WelcomeHome Care, 35 visits per week at a minimum of 32.00 per visit. That is a basic visit. You get more for each 1/2 hour, starting IVs, new admits, etc. You might get close to your 39.00/hr with something like that!
