OHSU's Accelerated BSN program 2012
I'm pretty sure that $55,000 is including what they think you will need to live, including housing, etc. The estimated tuition was still around 39,000 in state.

OHSU's Accelerated BSN program 2012
I applied to the midwifery program at OHSU three times before I got in. The first two times, I called and spoke to admissions and they were happy to tell me where I was weak.

I was also told that it is much easier to get in to the midwifery program if you already have your BSN. In fact, when I asked about it before I applied last fall, I was told that the previous year, they had more than 100 applicants for the ABSN to Midwifery program for 8 slots, but they only had two RN applicants to the midwifery program. Also, I'm happy to share my specific stats with anyone who wants to PM me, but I agree with whoever said that they probably don't give a lot of weight to your numbers. I have nearly a 4.0 for my undergrad (and a 4.0 in prerequisites) and a great GRE score and it took me three applications to be accepted. The first two times, they told me they wanted to see more birth experience and more leadership experience. I've lived overseas, speak conversational Spanish and German, and was a doula the last two times I applied. My advice is to make your essays outstanding and prepare well for the interview!

OHSU's Accelerated BSN program 2012
I just got my acceptance letter for the OHSU accelerated bachelor's to master's in Midwifery (starts in June) on Tuesday, but I haven't heard back from the accelerated bachelor's program yet (also starts in June). When I had my interview, they told me they send out a first round of acceptances and wait to hear back (I had to reply by the 16th) and then send out another round of acceptances before they send out the wait-list and denial letters.

Graduate Entry 2011 applicants
Well, a friend of mine got her acceptance to the OHSU grad-entry midwifery program yesterday, and I didn't get anything yesterday or today, so I suppose that means I'm probably out. Has anyone else heard? I haven't yet heard back from Seattle University either.

ohio state anyone??
I actually only completed three quarters at OSU (we had to move out of state, so I'm in the midst of re-applying to programs here). However, even with two young kids, the schedule was difficult but manageable. Depending on when we scheduled (do it the first hour of the first day you can!!!! seriously, I stayed up until midnight one night in order to schedule at 12:01am), we had class/clinical anywhere from 3 to 5 days a week. If your schedule is only 3 days, they are long, long days -- like 7am-9pm of fairly solid schedule -- but you then have two days off, so there is definitely a trade-off. I know when I was there, they were trying to move to more online/hybrid (some online, some in class) courses to make scheduling more flexible, but I preferred in-class courses, at least for the ones they had chosen (Patho is, in my opinion, much more difficult online!).

Graduate School Interviews -- Help!
A couple of questions about graduate school interviews... 1. Obviously you want to look nice and put together, but is this a suit-and-tie kind of thing or a slacks-and-a-sweater kind of thing? Does it matter the area of the country? I live in Portland, OR and have found that people here are *really* casual about dress, to the point where I've gone to a business-y meeting and felt overdressed because I wasn't wearing a fleece and khakis. Interview is also on the West Coast. 2. What kinds of things do they ask? Is it like a verbal admissions essay or something different? 3. Should I have questions ready to ask?

Graduate Entry 2011 applicants
Anyone heard anything yet? I heard from OHSU -- they told me they are no longer doing interviews, and they will not be sending out acceptance letters until APRIL! GAH! Still haven't heard anything on an interview at Seattle U. Good luck to all of you...I'll let you know as soon as I hear *something*

Pre-Reqs
I have never come across any nursing program that didn't have prerequisites. Every accelerated BSN/grad-entry MSN program has the same standard prerequisites (microbiology, A&P) and some have additional ones (stats, chem, nutrition, growth and development). I don't think you are going to find a program that doesn't have SOME prerequisites because there are just some things you need to understand in order to be a good nurse. In addition, even if they don't require you to have taken the prerequisites at application, they are all so competitive that you will be at a serious disadvantage if you haven't taken *something* they are looking for and received a good grade. It's not like they are just trying to see if you can jump through hoops. They are looking to find people who will be successful in a very rigorous program.

Graduate Entry 2011 applicants
ahhh, what brings me to midwifery...where should I start??! hahahaha Part my own experience with labor and birth and part a firm belief that education and empowerment of women with regards to their reproductive health is the best way I can personally make a significant difference in the lives of women. How about you?

Graduate Entry 2011 applicants
I heard back from SU this morning -- said they would be notifying those applicants who got interviews at the end of the month. I guess that's not too much longer!

Have you heard anything from SeattleU? I sent an email to the admissions department today asking if they'd sent out invites for interviews yet, but I haven't yet heard back.

Graduate Entry 2011 applicants
I thought I would start a thread for anyone who's applied to start a grad entry program in 2011 to post about interviews, acceptances, etc. I've applied to the midwifery programs at OHSU and Seattle University, and I'm waiting to hear whether or not I will get an interview! It's getting close and I'm getting nervous. Anyone else?

A Thread for 2011 Applicants...Where are you applying and what have you heard?
Hey all! I just sent in my applications to the grad-entry midwifery programs at OHSU and Seattle University. Now begins the wait. I figured we could all commiserate together until March or so, and then we can hopefully all celebrate!! To what programs/specialties have you applied?

OHSU Accelerated Bachelors to Masters 2010
Grad school financial aid is pretty much the same as undergraduate, only with different amounts allowed for subsidized loans if you qualify for them. Fill out your FAFSA and you should be good to go as far as loans are concerned. I would talk to the financial aid office at your school to see if you qualify for fellowships or anything like that.

OHSU Accelerated Bachelors to Masters 2010
Yes, that must be my problem -- my only "birth experience" is my own. I have pre-reqs of 4.0/undergrad of 3.9 and a 1300 on the GRE, and I know my recommendations were good. I have been a peer breastfeeding counselor, which I thought was good enough, but I guess not. Doesn't it take like 2 years to become a doula though?

OHSU Accelerated Bachelors to Masters 2010
Hey all you who were accepted into the OHSU midwifery program...I applied for the 2009 cohort and was put on the waiting list. I was accepted into and started the program at Ohio State, but now my husband has been transferred to the west coast so I'm going to re-apply. Would any of you mind telling me what your stats (GPA/GRE scores) were like or giving me any hints as to what you've done to make yourself OHSU-worthy? It has been my top choice all along, and I'm looking forward to a second chance, but I'm also worried about being rejected again.

Need abbreviation help
I'm a nursing student researching my patient for tomorrow morning's clinical and have come across an abbreviation on the nursing worklist that I can't figure out. It is regarding her insulin injection and is "QACHS". I searched online and can't find anything! I know QHS is bedtime, but have not yet come across this one.

How long will it take you to admit a new patient to L&D?
That is definitely the sort of thing that gets quicker and easier with time! I'm not a nurse yet, but it sure seems like some of the other replies had some good ideas. What I would love to know (if you don't mind) is how and where you got a job in L&D as a new grad!!? I am in a grad-entry program to be a midwife, and I would LOVE to work L&D when I pass the NCLEX, but everyone tells me it is utterly impossible to do as a new grad.
