  1. I also had an instructor tell me that he thought I wouldn't be a good nurse because I was too quiet. He said something like " I just don't know about you, there something off .... you need to be more talkative to be a good nurse "... this crushed my confidence at the time... Now im happy about the way I am. I feel like I am able to do my job more effectively by being good listener and being able to quickly pick up on subtle signs. i spend my time thinking instead gossiping or talking nonsense. I see nurses miss things all the time because they are too busy mingling around the floor.
  2. AMEN sister!!! ditto
  3. yea minot said "while you have not been selected for this position. your application is being further reviewed for consideration of other positions." in other words thanks but no thanks. it said that in all ten positions i applied to. i heard about the border town in texas and i am looking into that. i would actually prefer to work there because i speak spanish. im doing my bsn at sf state.
  4. Dont come back to San Francisco even nursing home are asking for 1 to 2 years experience ..it is soo crazy..as soon as im done with my BSN im hightail it outta here...and i dont know about MINOT ND either, i think they are getting a lot of new grads applying from all over the country.. I have already been rejected lol! anyways goodluck!
  5. i agree with the poster above ..I made a list of all the nursing homes within an hour in my area and went door to door ... if you can ask if you can personally give you app and resume to the DON. dont give up...there lots of turn over in nursing something will come up...goodluck
  6. WOW didnt know it was that bad in San Antiono...I was looking to relocate there because I thought it was easier to find a job...Are you able to relocate somewhere else like border towns and rural areas??? get the one year experience then you will be able to move back? goodluck!
  7. i have seen male nurse on pedi floor. i guess people think that women are more nurturing than males but that should be changing i know plenty of males who are good with kids.
  8. go for what you want. you'll never know when you get another opportunity. make the sacrifice of working nights now and eventually you will get the shift you want. if u dont go for it how will you ever be able to be trained as an LD nurse. goodluck!!!
  9. omgosh. I was exactly like you in nursing school. I was veryyyy shy. but dont be afraid to just ask. the worse they can say is no. I told myself you will probably never see them again anyways so if they say no oh well. I ended getting references letter from two of my instructors. If i were you i would at least send them an email asking for one. most teacher have one that is pre made anyways. goodluck!!!
  10. I hope your right about things turning around
  11. If I can give you one piece of advice. Be VERY PERSISTENT in your preceptorship. I was very shy about asking for job opportunities during my preceptorship and i totally regret it. Two people got hired on the same floor where i did my preceptorship. Most of all because they worked for that Hospital before. but dont rely on your nurse to tell you about job opportunites because i did and it didnt get me anywhere. Network like CRAZY!! Good Luck to you!!
  12. anybody know where i can get a list of snf in California. im starting to give up on hospitals
  13. Bummer!! i actually wouldnt mind moving near Oregon
  14. I had the same exact experience as you! And i found out i passed about 2 weeks ago. I still cant believe it. I was also surprised about the pedi question i had alot of those, which was the one thing i didnt really study. good luck to you.
  15. Congrats !!!! My one advice is to ENJOY it. It is alot of work but you do have some amazing experiences and meet a lot of great people. Trust me it goes by FAST!!
  16. I agree it so bizarre what the recession is doing to the nursing job market right now. I remembered last year we had recruiters come to our school and hand out jobs to the class that was graduating and this year NOTHING was offered to our class. Not even the school job fair had any hospitals come. it is really depressing and its only going to get worst with more and more people graduating.
  17. THe VA in Palo Alto is taking application for the new grad program starting Fall 2009. Just apply online and they will send you this email of certain information you have to submit before June 1st.
  18. Im wondering the same thing How do new grad fit into a snf? How do they train you? How diffierent is it from the hospital? and It is hard to then transfer into a hospital with snf experience? Good luck with your search and hopefully hospital will start hiring people SOON!
  19. I think this is a great idea. Im a May 2009 graduate and im afraid im going to be looking for jobs for a long time. The only people in my class that got jobs were people who have been working in a hospital for a long time and thier managers created a postion for them. I only know about 4 out 50 people who have jobs. It is so depressing out there right now. I always see Bakersfield and Santa Barbara are hiring but not sure if they have a lot of applicants or not. I tried just about every hospital in the Bay Area and no calls backs. Good luck with your search.
  20. Thats AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!! :hpygrp: So happy for hopefully I can say the same thing one day!!!
  21. I also about an hour east of San Francisco. I have not been putting any restrictions on my job hunt. I am willing to work days, pms, nights, part time, fulltime, per diem, you name it and I still cant find a job. I gotten many rejection letters and no call backs. I think the market for new grads in the bay area is the worst. If you dont mind, can you let know the nursing homes that you know of that are hiring new grads? you can message me. Thanks in advance!!!
  22. Thanks so much!!!! I needed those words of encouragement. Im was kinda getting down on myself, because even though I'll done with school in five months, I know finding a job will take a looooong time!!!!:wtosts:
  23. Im also graduating in May 2009 and im terrified that I wont find a job. A lot the New grad program say you must currently have an RN license in order to apply.
