  1. This is an update and very frustrating! I have been given the run around about going to night shift. I've been told that we have more resources on day shift, but yet day shift doesn't work as a team. I went to HR and when they spoke to my mgr and DON they were told I needed to work on my skills, yet in my 90 eval I was told my skills were excellent. I am very confused and have caught this Mgr is several lies when discussing why I can't go to night shift, which does work as a team. I've been told it is hospital policy not to transfer for a year. That is why I went to HR and they told me this absolutely did not refer to shift changes on the same floor. Now I have to sit down with this Mgr that has lied to me and the DON tomorrow and listen to them during some kind of meeting of which will happen sometime during the day........I wasn't given any details. Also, our unit has been told if we want time off we have to use our PTO or leave the calendar days blank and take our chances of getting those days off. We can't request time off w/o pay. Anybody ever heard of this? Opinions appreciated and thanks for letting me vent.
  2. Thanks everyone, I will let you know what happens. I am hoping they do keep their word on talking to me in 2wks about night shift.
  3. Is night shift better for new grads than day shift? I'm working days and I can't seem to find time to learn what I feel like I should be learning about charting and etc. I had 6wks w/preceptor and have been on my own for about a month. I feel like I should have a better handle on things than I do right now. I have asked to go to nights and have been told by my mgr that we would discuss this again in 2 wks, that I might settle down and like days. Meanwhile, there are 2 openings on night shift and I want to try nights. I did my 120hr clinicals at night and all my friends that are working nights say it is much more conducive for the transition into nursing. Let me know what you think and any advice, pros, and cons would be appreciated.
  4. We are required to wear white on my unit. Unbelievable, huh? Other hospitals in my area where navy bottoms and white tops. Most hospitals, you can where whatever you want. I just think white is impractical and causes white coat syndrome with the pts. Even all solids of any color get old after a while.
  5. I am also starting Chamberlain next week ( April ). My classes are Transitions and Cultural Diversity. I am a bit nervous about the Cultural Diversity class. I've taken many online courses before, but this one doesn't look interesting or easy. Anyone else in this class in April or anyone taken this class before? Any advice appreciated.
  6. I am starting my first semester at Chamberlain on Monday. Just accessed my first two classes, Transitions and Cultural Diversity..........wondering what I got myself into:eek:. Any advice would be appreciated. Transitions doesn't look too bad, but Cultural Diversity does. Helpful hints from people who have taken these courses would be much appreciated . Thanks in advance. P.S. I am an RN now, guess I need to change my info.
  7. Graduated 12/16/09, received ATT on 2/2/10, took NCLEX on 2/3/10 and got the good popup. Received official PASS on 2/4/10!! Start my new job on Monday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't believe that I am at the light at the end of the tunnel!! Good luck everyone............what a wild and crazy ride we have been on and survived:yeah:
  8. Took my NCLEX 2/3/10 and it shut off at 75. There were alot of SATA's and prioritizing. Some meds I didn't recognize and I was thankful for all the studying I did. I did the PVT and got the "good popup" and today saw on the Exam results: PASSED!!!!!!!! I am a real RN now........just waiting for my license #! To everyone studying for it, in my opinion the Exam Cram CD that comes with the book (by Pearson Vue) was the closest to the NCLEX of everything we studied in my group. I highly recommend it and the Sylvia Rayfield books or CD's:redbeathe. Good luck to everyone testing.............you can do it!!!
  9. I have followed this website for over 6mos and watched the PVT trick and saw how accurate it is. So, yesterday my friend and I took our boards (FL) and both of us got shut off at 75. We went to the neares wireless spot and logged into to do the trick and both got the "good pop-up"!!! We were so excited:yeah:!!! Today we saw our PASS results on the exam results and are just waiting for our license #'s!! This trick is definitely accurate and I am so appreciative for everybody that has posted their popups and results. It relieved alot of my anxiety while waiting. Congrats to those that have passed............we have ended our RN journey successfully. To those that didn't pass..........I suggest the Cram Exam by Pearson Vue and Sylvia Rayfield before you take it again.....don't give up, you will pass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:nurse::nurse::redbeathe:up::heartbeat
  10. Count me in!! I am awaiting my ATT and plan on taking NCLEX in February!! I am excited and nervous...........I'm sure ya'll understand. I am using Saunders, Sylvia Rayfield CD's and Kaplan. I did not find the Kaplan very useful, but I am loving the Sylvia Rayfield. It sounds alot like the Hurst in the way they teach you to answer questions. I am working on doing at least 50 questions daily and reading Saunders for content and listening to CD's. We can all do this!! Congrats to all of us for getting this far!!!
  11. I caled the DOH and they received all my paperwork on 1/9/10. I am hoping and praying that I hear something soon. All they would tell me is they have 30 days to process the paperwork. It is sooooo frustrating!! At least I know they have everything. Thanks for all the advice and help.
  12. No, I havent contacted them yet. I was not sure if we could or not. Our school did not send our paperwork in to them until 1/4/10, even though we graduated on 12/16/09. Then we have all sent our applications in after the school gave us the ok. I will definitely call them today and see what the status is. Thank you sooooo much for the advice.
  13. Thank you so much!! I will keep that in mind and take everyone's advice. You are very inspiring and motivating:) I will be confident and not let my anxiety get to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. I am also using the Kaplan and Saunders. The sticky notes with lab values is a great idea. I'm going to also get the NCSBN's 3 wk online study guide for 50.00. I am doing pretty much the same as you with some study groups mixed in. Have you played the NCLEX board game, it's really fun!:)
  15. I worked as much as I could and applied for pell grant and student loans. It still wasn't enough, but I managed to get by. Oh, I also qualified for food stamps after I had to quit my job in the next to last semester. It will all be worth it when I pass the boards!! Where there is a will there is a way.:grad:
  16. I would like to join in being prayed for to pass NCLEX on the first try. I pray that everyone taking it soon passes, we have all worked so hard to get this far and this is our last hurdle of tests!!
  17. I hope you get yours soon too!! What is your studying strategy for the NCLEX? I'm up for any ideas.
  18. It is so hard to be in limbo like this. I just want to take the boards and be done with the last hurdle or at least pick a date and have a deadline. I'm so used to having deadlines that I think I'm in withdrawal from not having any. Congrats on graduating.....we have come a long way!!
  19. I sent paperwork in and so did the school the first week of January when school opened back up. I hope to hear something soon. Thanks!
  20. I graduated on 12/16/09 from RN program. Our paperwork was sent in on 1/4/10 to the state.Does anyone know how long it takes this time of year to receive our GN letter and ATT from state?
  21. I am currently waiting for my GN letter and my ATT..........thank you for all of ur encouragement and words of wisdom!! I am sooooooooo nervous about taking the NCLEX. Congrats on ur passing:yeah:!!! I will use ur advice and take it to heart:redbeathe!! Please let me know any other helpful hints anyone has:idea:!!
  22. I don't think there is really any way to study for HESI. You can review in the HESI book, but you either know ur stuff or you don't. Personally, the more I studied for the HESI, the worse my scores were. When I took the exit HESI we had a few study groups and I took the night off before from doing questions. I passed and am now looking forward to passing the NCLEX.:)
  23. Congratulations, I graduated on 12/16/09!! It is so hard to believe that we are only 1 test away from being a Registered Nurse..............finally:yeah:. I am excited and nervous.............but no turning back now! We've come a looooooooong way, baby!!!
  24. I have experience in med. asstg. and didn't have any trouble finding a job. My friends that don't have experience are having trouble find jobs. This market is tough.
  25. ADN in FL!! Had interview and got job.............just need to pass NCLEX:nurse:
