  1. I find your posts very interesting. I have been a psychiatric nurse x 31 years and could write a book about all the bizarre stuff I have seen. Most psych nurses are usually very open-minded to strange activity and behavior which probably explains why your post was directed in that arena.
  2. This is a fantastic article, I wish I had know this years ago. Thank you for writing this article and I plan on reading the book you were talking about by Bessel.
  3. American Sentinel lets you substitute a science course for the stats. They are CCNE accredited.
  4. Ameriacan Sentinel has no math, I talked to the admissions person at length, Lisa. That is where I will be going.
  5. I am an introvert as well, I would love to work from home but my computer skills are facebook, shopping, emailing, etc. I tried computer classes to no avail. Any suggestions on work from home for a psych nurse with 29 years experience? Seems without top notch computer skills my nursing experience is worthless.
  6. @CDeCapua I was wondering what kind of work you finally ended up doing? I have a very similar situation to yours, Psych nurse x 29 years, back injury, same age I think. I am at my wits end trying to find a job that won't kill my back. Thanks for your reply!
  7. Does American Sentinel University require statistics as a prereq or during the BSN coursework? Their admissions office told me no, but it is listed on their website, someone on allnurses said no as well but I really want to know from someone who actually took the RN-BSN program recently. Thank you in advance!
  8. Hello Meriwhen, I have a question for you. I am a psych nurse x 29 yrs., I have a California RN license but do not live in the state yet, have applied for jobs as I want to move closer to my son and his family who live in Fremont area. I have applied to many places and have not gotten anywhere for a couple years now so I have decided to go back to school to make myself more employable. I am considering Aspen. Anyway, do you have any suggestions to land a job in California, I know it is very competitive there. Thank you for any advice.
  9. Hi Nizhoni, Did you ever get your MSN from Aspen? I am looking at them and wondering how people liked their program. Thanks in advance for any info you have.
  10. Oh no after all that work you could not use the MSN after your name? All these accreditations are making my head spin, I am going to have to sit down and figure them all out before I make a decision. Thank you very much for the reply.
  11. Nrsbettyo, No I chickened out. I bought 2 stats review books and I just couldn't understand those so I didn't want to waste a bunch of money as WGU makes you pay a whole semester at a time.
  12. Hi Cultuslakenurse! Did you finish the RN-MSN program at American Sentinel? I am tryng to decide if I want to attend there. How was it? They say they are computer friendly, did you find that also? I am so nervous about all of it, I have been a nurse x 29 years and don't even know if I can pass a course again. I hear it is all writing papers. Is there a capstone? So many questions, sorry and thank you!
  13. Vintagemother, please where are you taking your stat's course? Stats is totally holding me back and I need a course like you are taking. I panic at just the thought....thank you for your help. BTW I want to move to northern California someday, my son lives there, I love it, so beautiful!
  14. I love your idea of keeping journals and keeping them on bookshelves for your famiy to look at, what a wonderful idea, wish I had thought of it, hope it's not too late for me to start! My husband expressed to me that he worried if I went back to school, sometimes I think they are worried that they will be left behind. Sometimes it's just pillow talk and nothing more. My generation did not grow up with computers and some of us are further along than others. I do alot online, others my age are afraid to and worry about their bank accounts, their identity and everything else. To each his own, we all have different worries. It's ok to share.
  15. Oh TheCommuter, are you sure? Wow, you do not know--- this is amazing!! This will make it possible for me to get my BSN!!
  16. Oh Ihflanurse you give me hope! I am 58 and need to get my BSN, I am a RN ADN, but I don't know, I have a math block but can do just about anything else. I look at the websites of the schools and some of them are so intense I can't even find the info about the program. I need a school that is relaxed. Don't know if that is possible but I will keep looking.
  17. There is a math test for WGU's entrance exam. I couldn't do those math problems. So that eliminated WGU for me.
  18. Oh well Oklahoma City requires 18 of their credits to be on campus, I can't go to Oklahoma to take 18 credits. And I was really excited about that school, but I have to do it all online.
  19. I have been looking for just that kind of a RN-BSN forever! I am contacting them now, thank you TheCommuter!
  20. Where can I get a job in a Methadone dosing unit in San Francisco, CA.? I have 25 yrs of psych nursing experience including corrections, inpatient psych and now substance abuse specifically Methadone. Can anyone help me, I have no way of networking to find a position out there. Thanks in advance. ... Shift+R improves the quality of this image. 21. I have worked prn off and on, mostly on, throughout my 25 years of being a nurse. I have seen prn nurses dumped on and given all the hard patients that no one else wants. And I have seen regular nurses be rude and cliquey to the prn nurses. But a big part of why I do prn is to stay out of all of that, stay out of the politics, etc. I work when I want and when I do work I work harder and run circles around the regular staff, it seems they appreciate "the stranger" coming into their turf better and ask for me again.
  22. I just checked out Univ of Wyoming and they in addition to tuition have a $40 per credit hour online fee, so add $160 to the cheap $100 which puts it over the cost of Marshall University, or so it appears. I too am looking for a cheap program, the expensive university fees make me sick! The nursing shortage is imposed upon society by the greedy people allowing universities to extremely overcharge, I really think if university in the US were free, the poverty level and debt level would greatly decrease, healthcare would greatly improve and so on... I almost was in the University of Dundee program and then the President Obama would not allow FASA loan money to overseas schools any longer!! So I was not able to further my nursing degree at University of Dundee, yes that still makes me upset because I can not pay cash for a degree program and I really wanted to go to the University of Dundee.
  23. To CLWCHPN, Yes the University of Dundee Palliative Care Program is NLN accredited ---always check their site before applying to schools---therefore it is recognized in the U.S.
