  1. Oh, that's seems very strange. My Uni get all educational supplies for students even uniform for placement. And when I am on placement I can practice IV fluid anytime I want to, without buying supplies. I bought nothing except a lab gown. That's it. xxx.
  2. For those who were asking how to apply in Singapore, the MOH in Singapore just replied to and OK'd to send you guys his email. pm me for those interested
  3. As I wrote, I did not use any agency. Two representative from the Ministry of Health came to my Uni and gave us an orientation. I just sent an email to this guy who came to my Uni to recruit. I ask him if I can send you guys his email address. I hope this is clear. Cheers. xxx
  4. Hi, I don't know any agency. There were two representatives from the Ministry of Health of Singapore that went to my University and gave an orientation and then later we were ask to send applications using their form for those interested. I will try and send an email to this guy and see if I can forward you their emails. Cheers. xxx
  5. Whether you are a nurse or not, you behave they way you are and how you cope with health condition. I have had cared for patients who are nurses some were understanding and some where not so demanding. Also, I have cared for retired GPs and they are very understanding for student nurse like me. I don't like the cartoons because it gives bad stereotype to nurses. Cheers xxx
  6. Hi Sharrie Lovely to hear from you. There is not many job in the region where I am. So maybe down to London and there is also a job in Singapore in fact there is an interview in March. But I don't know which country offer better professional development. Any idea about Nursing in Singapore? Best wishes xxx
  7. Hello Sharrie and Ayla, Hope everything goes well with you both. Time flies so quickly and I am nearly heading towards the end of my training. I'm just about to start my critical care placement and Im so excited about it, though nervous. Then I will do my 12weeks consolidation in the summer, and that would be me ready to be a registered nurse. I am enjoying my training though can be tough but I am very satified, my Uni is really very suportive and like most of nurses in the ward. Well, I will be completely skint after this course. hahaha. hope I can find a job soon. Cheers xxx
  8. Hi I am planning to apply for a job in Singapore. Do you mind if you can share with me how it was like working in Singapore? Were you satisfied and felt supported in relation to career development? How was the pay? In the UK, nurse starting salary is £21,176 and in London area around £25,000/yr. Do you think Singapore offers better salary? Thanks so much for your time. xxx
  9. how about giving up a UN job to become a nurse? I have enjoyed such a highly well recognised job but I was looking for satisfaction. So, whatever our motivation to become a nurse I hope we put our patient first and demonstrate more empathy, care and compassion. I am now doing my nursing training programme in first year and I am loving it and no regret giving up my UN job!
  10. Hi, I have an EU citizenship and I am able to study in the UK. I knew of someone, who has been living outside of the EU since her childhood but able to study in the UK. So as Silverdragon said, it's better to contact the Uni first as they know better and also, not all Uni have the same, requirements. It's worth a try. As this was excatly what I did before I got in. Success!
  11. Thank you Sharrie and rgnscot, Actually, I have done all the research already. I also visited both unis but it seems to me that both Unis are excellent, that's why I find it hard to decide. Anyway, I think I will go for Glasgow uni. rgscot, thanks again for sharing your personal learning experience. best wishes, baliling
  12. Hi Sherrie, Ayla and Everyone, I need to make up my mind and accept an offer between Glasgow University and Uni of Abertay Dundee. Please share insights and which Uni is better than the other, and why? I can't decide which Uni i should choose. Your opinion is highly appreciated. many thanks
  13. Hi Sharrie and Ayla, Hope you are doing fine. i just got invited for interview from one of the Unis I applied in Scotland and had a telephone interview last week from Glasgow Uni. they invited me for the summer school programme since I had studied biology, chemistry long time ago. I'm really excited, I'm just waiting for confirmation letter from Glasgow within this week, hopely I'll be in glasgow by 1st of June to attend the summer school. If does not materialise I still have two options. Would be glad to hear any tips for the interview. I knew Ayla mention some already but if you have more to add. it would be highly appreciated. At the moment I am so busy doing two voluntary works in an elderly insti. and hospital, at least I could mention these on the interview. many thanks for all your help and prayers. peace!
  14. Hello, though I'm not currently living in the Philippines but i follow current issues. If your goal is only to find a hospital in Manila to take u as a volunteer, i'm afraid you have limited chance but if u take a riskier approach u might find one, a lot exciting, interesting experience. Many remote areas in the philippines need nurses but only few nurses are willing to take the opportunity. If you really care go to places where people barely see or meet a nurse! good luck and success!
  15. Thanks Sharrie and Ayla, i'm just thinking, if i don't get an offer from any of the Unis i have applied, I am planning to take NA/CA training and phlebotomy. i really want to start learning this year, though currently, I have 3 different voluntary works as caregiver for elderly and persons with disabilities, from this work I am learning to assists clients with mobility equipments such as rollator, wheel chair, walker, safely assist clients getting out of the car. I do "light" stuffs. So, I am wondering where can i do these training, and how to apply? thanks.
  16. Hi to all UK nursing students, I would like to know if you can study phlebotomy in nursing or is it one of the subjects that is part of the nursing program? if not where insti in the UK offers special training/ course on this area. thanks a lot. cheers
  17. thanks a lot, in that case no other person can see my post except to the intended receiver?
  18. hi Silverdragon, how can I send pm? do I have to become a platinum member or register to other services? thanks.
  19. Hi, I just realised. I think it is not safe to post my PS here, before submitting it UCAS to avoid plagiarism. I am afraid I miss your valuable comments as I have no other means to reach you.
  20. Hi Sharrie and Ayla, Thank you so much for sharing your help and valuable time. it really helps a lot in making a well informed decision. I just finished writing draft of my PS. It is always wise to have it read by someone willing to make comments. I need again your help, constructive comments, so that I can refine it before sending my application. Please let me know if it's fine with you and if i could post it here? thank you so much.
  21. hi Sharrie and Ayla, thanks for responding to my questions. I really pray I'll get an offer even though Unis provided no assurance as I am already late but I can still catch up to the clearing though. This is really what I wanted to do, it will cost me all of my savings and maybe even in debt even before I graduate, but I won't mind. if I won't get a place for this school year (2009) then my last option is Phil, I don't want to miss another year. Thanks a lot. I'll let you know. peace and love
  22. Indeed, studying in the UK is more advisable as I don't have to go through the trouble of supplying requirements to NMC or here in the Netherlands as foreign educated nurse. Thank you both I have to more in my personal statement.
  23. It is a labour offense to let go of the senior nurses-just to accommodate new grads and not a wise idea either. where will you get the mentoring aspect if you are as a fresh nurse work in the hospital you someone who is well experienced than a fresh grad. I am not a nurse nor a nursing student but i have interest in this subject. it sounds like some of the post here lacks maturity in their thoughts and I wonder why they become a nurse. I know for an obvious reason and I don't judge anyone if monetary or going abroad is your reason of becoming a nurse as it is the right of everyone to develop the many aspect of your, if you choose to enhance your purchasing power first by getting a nursing position that gives you more economic capacity , then I have no judgement. But I request to all posters that please don't show your immaturity because the world is reading this site and it is quite embarrassing for those Filipino nurses who have done their best to make a good impression about filipino nurses working abroad. as a nurse you need maturity to assess all aspect that involves nursing issues including human resources. later you might be in interested in nursing recruitment or want to become head of nursing staff, and this kind of tone u demonstrate is no way land you to such position and if you do and indeed replaced senior nurses by low paid or volunteer nurse, in the Netherlands I assure you will be jailed and even loose your nursing license. The Political maturity is lacking in the government, here in the Netherlands and in some countries i visited, hospital cannot just charge students if they clinical placement. Most hospitals (private or government) follow government directives. More so, in the country where I currently live, hospitals are required by law and hospitals followed it religiously to pay intern students, doing clinical placement. Of course in country like Phil. i do not expect that you can do and pay your intern students but congress should pass a law or the office of the president can pass an executive order prohibiting hospitals doing such activity, or maybe there is already something alike, need update on this please. if you' re a new nurse and u find it hard to find a job do organise an activity for unemployed nurse and make a visible campaign to reform nursing issues, not only unemployment. Most of International Health NGO are interested in hiring nurses that has experience in conflict areas, do organise a signature campaign for intance to call for peace in mindanao. Nurses for Peace in Mindanao for intance, in this activity you will draw potential employer because you show not only that you are concern about other important national issues, but you show your creativity while looking for a job. So unemployed nurse you can do more for your country more than you think. Peace and love to you all.
  24. i suggest go to the South African embassy in your country of residence, their you can ask more info.
  25. Hi Sharrie, This is very clear, thanks a lot. I am originally from the Philippines but have been out of the country since 2002, though visits philippines every year (except 2008 ask I was so focused with learning and taking dutch courses) for holidays and reading news about the country. so i am not so much behind on the current issues, especially the nursing issues. about nursing finding working in the philippines, i notice most of the posters in these site are from manila. I am not worried finding job after graduation, as I am certain, there are so many hospitals in the provinces who are in need of nurses, of course they are reluctant to hire new staff even though they badly need them, it's bec. they have no budget to pay for new staff but I am willing to do voluntary nursing job as long as it has the same recognition as paid nurse. Does voluntary nursing role count for NMC? more so, there are so many Non Government Organization which has health projects around the world, which i think I can work and offer my services. I would be happy to volunteer. Even several UN agencies are in need of nurses. So, i don't worry too much of not getting a job. if in worst scenario, i would not find any hospitals or organisations where I can volunteer as a registered nurse. I have a big plan, i will organised interested unemployed skilled and registered nurses and we'll form a nurse volunteer brigade for mindanaw, but they have to be ready to come to conflict areas and not picky and respect the culture and be ready to adopt the local life. I have work in many conflict areas. War zone in only 3 countries in Asia and witnessed children, women, old dying without getting any medical help. And thought while doing my job there that only if I have medical professional skills i could have done more. and That is why I leave my UN job and now I am preparing myself to become one of you all. I am interested about getting NMC and dutch IB-group registration only because I live here, and it just practical for me to do so but my main goal is to work for ICRC, or doctors without borders. I just hope that my husband won't read this forum as he is not happy about the idea of me going to conflict countries again, or that i am secretly thinking about that again, but maybe later I can convince him. I always believed that if I am willing to sacrifice. i know i would get to my goal. So what do you think? thanks for more insights.
