Some interviews use behavioral type questions to find out if you are indeed what they are looking for. Some examples of those questions include.. tell me about a time when you were faced with an ethical dilemma? or Tell me about a time when you needed to prioritize? or Tell me about a time when you did not get along with a coworker? What did you do with that? How did it work out for you? These are examples that I had for two of my interviews. Just try to think of past experiences so you are prepared to give examples in an interview. Good Luck!!!

I work 12's (7-7)and I need to get a lot of sleep so I am able to stay up during the night. I try to stay up until 4-5am and try to awake around 3-4pm. That doesn't usually work that way, but I do try!! It at least makes it easier to get on track. Good luck with your nights!!

We had Bon Jovi's "Living On A Prayer." Other songs that were played I believe were "Time After Time" (not Cyndi Lauper's verson!!). I also think that some Norah Jones song was played. It's not a pinning ceremony unless you have tear jerker songs!! Congratulations and good luck!

I used to work at an assissted living facility that allowed pretty much ANYBODY to pass meds. There was one person who worked there that previously used to work with a carnival. Not to mean anything disrepspectful against that profession, but what could they know about digoxin?? Or any other cardiac med?? I think it is scary that some regions/facilities will allow uneducated people manage other peoples' meds. It is scary to think of what has happened as a result of that and what could still happen.

I work on a unit where there is always someone with MRSA or some other contact precaution needed. This is my major pet peeve. People will go in to adjust the pumps or take VS and not where anything!! Another big problem I had noticed... There was a pt who had his nares swabbed and was diagnosed with MRSA. That SAME day PT came by and let him ambulate in the hallways!! I had just started at this hospital and asked my preceptor as to why this was occuring and she said .. "mm, I don't know.. shouldn't be a big deal" I don't know if I am overreacting, but it definitely bothered me. I'm sure every nurse on this unit is carrying MRSA - they just have a strong enough immune system to not see the symptoms!!!

I just started at a hospital in MN and I am making 23.92/hr. The relocation package was awesome. They paid for a hotel stay and meals so I could find housing, they paid for my entire move, and I also got a $1000 relocation bonus.

I have a question regarding the role of a charge. Since I am new to the profession I am unclear of this. I had a patient ask me if the charge nurse is my boss. I had said no, assuming my boss is the nurse manager. Later a coworker had told me that the charge nurse is my boss. She is in charge of me. I had always thought that the charge nurse is in charge of the unit - where patients are assigned, who is assigned to which patients, days off, etc. I understand they should be in the charge role-making unit decisions and whatnot. But do they pull rank when your job is on the line? Thanks for the clarification!

i was working in an ER and there was patient coming in c/o dizziness. I could smell himm before i got into his room. I don't think he had changed his clothes for over a month. The EMTs had taken pictures of his living conditions and his "bathroom" were two buckets .. one for pee and one for poo.. And that's if he decided to use the buckets!! We had to put hime in a gown.. literally PEELING off his clothes! His socks were stuck to his feet with dried feces and urine. He had feces inbetween his toes. His jeans were soiled with god knows what. his briefs had dried feces with toilet paper stuck in there!! Am I painting a pretty picture?? It was about the worst experience i had ever had. I don't gag often but that one did it in for me!!

I have started my new position as an RN in a hospital that is new to me. I'm on a general medical unit and I've never had any experience with this before. I've only had internships in the ER and on a cardiac unit. I will have orientation until the end of March, but I feel like I just will not be ready!! There is so much to learn and the more I work the more incompetent I feel! I have always been able to catch on pretty quick, but I don't feel this way now. With all of this new stuff I'm learning there just doesn't seem to be enough room for much else. I'm having a hard time finding my way around on the unit. There are about 4 brown doors and after opening 3 of them, I usually get it right! Does becoming a ditz usually occur once graduating?? Do other new RN's feel the same way? I'm hoping I'm not alone here! :) Or are there any helpful "words of wisdom" that anyone can offer? Thanks for sharing your experiences!

The hospital I work at is all very specialized. We have housekeepers assigned to every unit, so all day from 7am to 11pm we have one housekeeper for just us. On the night shift we can call for one if needed, otherwise there is a PCA for the "light" duties. Regarding emptying trash, sharps, etc.. I have yet to empty trash. If I see a sharps container that is full, I will definitely change the bin. If it's full then someone has to walk around with a contaminated needle trying to find another one.. kind of a safety hazard!

I'm sorry about your test. The advise that I can give is to just try again. This test doesn't mean that you won't be a great nurse. There are so many people out there that don't make it the first second or third time. This test doesn't predict if you can or can't be a nurse. Bottom line, it's whether or not you know HOW to take a test. I've worked other nurses that failed the test and I would not have known unless they told me of course. And I would have never of guessed it either. You have to tell yourself that you are bigger than this test. You have worked so hard to get through school and graduate. That is a huge accomplishment in itself!! Take a break, relax and then go at it again. Good luck!

In Wisconsin they are offering sign on bonuses up to $15,000, but there overall pay scale was slightly lower. I accepted a job in MN that payed for moving expenses with $1000 for other relocation assistance. They had told me they don't pay sign on bonuses because they pay a higher wage to everyone. Personally I would want to make 3-4 dollars more per hour versus getting one lump sum with strings attached. Another thing, at a hospital that i wad worked at, a lot of the previously highered nurses had been complaining because new grads would be getting all of the perks to work there but there was no "graditute" for those who had stayed on at that hospital.
