5 second rule
I worked with a nurse who dropped meds on the floor in the med room and claimed it was a "sterile environment," and still gave the meds. for me, just took micro and virology, even the flippin sheets and table could have stuff from the patients family/friends/docs coughing or sneezing. but like the real world thread I see how I do it in 2 years.

traveling for school?
side note after the drive home my wife said we are moving closer to the school, "it's not you, it's them I'm worried about." case closed. thanks for the replies.

traveling for school?
drove in very light snow yesterday on the interstate I'll travel. you see real quick who can't drive, who THINK they can drive and those that are smart enough to be on the road. people hitting brakes going down hill on bridges and skidding because they are 2 cars links back from traffic driving 70 mph! I lived in Idaho and Montreal, but some Arkansasans are a new breed of stupid in snow.

traveling for school?
I had planned on traveling for at least the first semester of nursing school, but as I get closer to January and school starting-I wonder if it is smart? I will be traveling 1 hr each way and working fulltime. my work hours "should" change by the time school starts so that I will work nights or days on the days I don't have class? Anyone else travel or know someone that traveled? how did you/they make it work or not? I am beginning to stress this a bit.:uhoh21: any advise is welcome. I have purchased a digital recorder to listen and have more flash cards that one could shake a stick. thanks Defboy11

RN's getting laid off???
my hosital has a hiring freeze in effect. there was a series of 'layoffs'/ firings a few months ago that cause a small stir. the economy is in bad shape-but patients are still filling the hospitals. especially at this time of the year for optional surgeries, before they change deductables in the spring. upper managemnet has had no changes in how they function. and getting salary info on them (non profit hospital) is nearly impossible. it is good to have business running this place but their lack of patient care experience makes them poor sounding boards for how to create a better hospital environment. proper staffing=beter care=better eviews=more patients=more $$$

Is anyone going to attend UA Fort Smith?
congrats. i will commute b/c I have a good job up here that is flexible. My wife likes NWA more than the river valley. The program here is at nwaac and i would have applied there for the fall as well as UA-fayetteville, but i got in on my first shot at uafs-so i thought why wait and possibly not get accepted! it will take 52 minutes from my house to the front door-not bad i drive a lot anyways. as far as the program i have been told that the instructors are great as far as preparing you for the nclex and i will assume the lpn is the same. one said,"they want to teach or reteach you and you had better accept the fact or you'll be gone." she explained that an lpn was in the bsn program with her but kept arguing with the team leader about procedures and she eventual left the program, so be teachable. good luck with the program. i worked as a nurse tech for a while and lpn do wonderful work.

Is anyone going to attend UA Fort Smith?
hello, I'm attending in the spring for the ADn program. I've spoken to 5 people about their experiences, and like others have stated it is HARD but doable. I've been told to assume you know nothing and let each instructor teach you:bowingpur. Bite your lip/tongue, gag :down:yourself whatever just do what they ask and study. did you get in? I live in Fayetteville and will commute for the next 2 years. so if you are off the beaten path and need a travel buddy...I'm driving.

No She/he Did Not!!!
when I worked as a CNA, I had a charge nurse come to me say, "I got the vitals in 15 since you missed them and they are late!" she was at lunch when the guy was declared 45 minutes earlier! but she got vitals? I ran and checked myself just so I knew I wasnt going crazy.

How far away (distance) will you apply?
I will be traveling 58 minutes. I have classes all day Monday-Thursday and Monday and Wendesday nights. I gte paid well enough at my current job to stay in NWA. I plan on recording lectures and my book reading and listening to them during the commute-anything to kill time!
