  1. ok guys i just did it and i was SHAKING the whole time but I got the good pop up. I wont believe it until I see the result... Im seriously FREAKIN out!
  2. ok guys Im FREAKIN out.. im SO scared to even check the PV trick bc I feel like I DID HORRIBLE. I got 75q but i was not sure about ANY answer i put down.. im so paranoid.
  3. im first year too and i was a tech for a year and im still completely lost and overwhelmed!!! just take it day by day and dont look at the big picture! im blockin out everything except for the next week! hand in there! we are all going thru it!!!!
  4. hey yall!!! i'm sure this question has already been asked but i couldnt pinpoint axectly what i needed. i have a list of 40 drugs that i have to memorize and everything about them in 2 weeks. im not really sure how to even start the process. i was going to split them up in classifications but that is all i got so far. do you guys think i should go buy the mosbys drug flash cards or should i make them on notecards myself? how did you guys do it?? thanks a seriously stressed student summer
  5. im just saying take out subsidized first (government pays your interest while you in school) then unsubsidized (you have to pay interest while in school) then parent plus loans. All these loans will be the LOWEST interest rate and and it is FIXED unlike private loans. Private loans are largely discouraged. You can do searches on the internet for better explanation. just stay with the government funding and you till be ok!
  6. we have to wear white button down collared shirt with high rise all white pants with a tapered leg and white leather shoes. its absolutely the worst uniform you can imagine! why do they want to embarrass us like this? i look like a marshmallow!
  7. when i first told everyone i wanted to be a nurse a year and a half ago, i couldnt even tell you how many people laughed at me! i was always the one to get grossed out the first, couldnt watch surgery on tv and even couldnt handle watching horror movies bc of the gore. i had the most sensitive stomach to EVERYTHING! So I got a job at a tech before nursing school and i was petrified at first, but i found out, when its your own patient and they are your responsibility, its weird.. its like i dont get grossed out anymore. its just my job. i dont think of it as gross stuff... but i do have to second the dentures thing.. i gotta turn my head for that!
  8. half.com and amazon is what i use! actually i just spend 200 bucks the other day for some of my nursing books. I saved a lot!
  9. this thread has helped me so much!! i am too starting nursing school in the fall! thanks everyone for all the replies!
  10. i know how you feel. My parents are middle class too and dont make hardly any money and we dont qualify for grants either, but i did end up taking out subsidized, unsubizided and parent plus loans. I would stay away from private loans as much as possible. Private loan companies have the ability to change the interest rate as much as they want when its time for you to start paying them off. Which means it might be 8.00% when you first start taking them out, but when you start paying on them, they can jack up the price to 30.00% if they want. Parent plus loans and the stafford loans are a FIXED rate and they wont screw you over
  11. mine hurt so bad!! i couldnt raise my arm for 3 days and it was still a little sore after that. Im so glad i never have to do it again!! but then again, those hep b shots burn bad too
  12. i did take micro, physics, a&p 2 in one semester and ended up dropping micro. But then again my teacher was dreadful when i took micro and i ended retaking it with a diff teacher and made an a. I really wouldnt take micro with a & p bc you want to focus and read as much as you can in a & p as possible and when you take micro, you want to devote yourself solely to that class.
  13. i emailed the teacher and asked her which ones were required, but it seems as if she is one of those teachers they said "every one is required.".. so she wasnt much help
  14. really?? oh gosh i guess i should be lucky..
  15. gotta vent really quick guys but i got a book list for 1 of my classes (into to prof nursing) and it called for 10 books! just for one class! I went to half.com and found all of them and it equaled up to be $250 for just one class! i thought this was ridiculous. Did you guys have to shell out so much for just this class? Summer
  16. gosh i wish there was something i could do to help.. im sorry its so hard for you.. i guess its just a bad time for a lot of people. the VA is a great place to work also, but they are on a hiring freeze at the moment. best of luck to you, i hope you find something soon.
  17. you cant get on at memorial? i find that so odd bc they are begging for people in some departments.. we just hired 3 new grads on 4ab and they are constantly hiring.
  18. memorial is a wonderful place for a new grad. Their orientation is very extensive and everyone there is a new nurse and very enthusiastic about their jobs so the mood there is a little happier. I work there so i know. Biloxi regional is awful. I know from the grapevine that it gets horrible pt reviews. singing river hospital is an excellent hospital too!
  19. i just got my letter in to last saturday and i feel like they have to wrong person also haha.. im so excited and nervous too just like you! we will sure be on a roller coaster these next couple years!
  20. i made 5 copies already of my letter so i have lots of spares haha
  21. I got my acceptance letter in for NURSING SCHOOL!!!!!!!!!!! i start in august at the college that i wanted to get into more than anything! im so excited that i can barely contain myself! i really didnt think i could do it, so i was floored when i got the letter in! im soo HAPPY!!!!!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D i must say im so happy that i decided to be a CNA before getting into nursing school, im not near as scared as i would be if i didnt do it. it was the best decision i ever made. :heartbeat Summer
  22. Hey guys, Its about time for me to start applying to every nursing school possible since i finally got a (halfway) decent score on act (after taking it 3 times!!).. at one school, I have to write a short essay about "why I would be successful...".. Im terrible at essays, mostly bc i think to much.. so Im kinda confused on what they are asking really. Are they trying to see if I am really into nursing for the patients and helping people vs the money (which a lot of people do) or are they asking me why I would be successful in completing nursing school? im also a CNA and i would like to throw that in somewhere in the essay, but it might be inappropriate..see what i mean, I guess im thinking to much lol.. im just so lost on where to start!!! please help! any tips or ideas? thanks Summer
  23. haha i think we picked up the same book! i went to the library also today and picking up a PCA book that describes everything we are supposed to do.. that is funny we are going thru the same thing..i really need to get to reading but im exhausted today!! my first day on the floor is also tomorrow! 7a to 7p! i hope everything goes well!
  24. well im not going to lie.. the last 2 days were BORING!!! i havent been on the floor yet. Yesterday I just had general orientation.. like safety, fire hazards, sexual harassment blah blah blah.. i nearly nodded off to sleep like 3 times.. today was a little bit more exciting. I got to learn about properly lifting a patient, patient restraints, how to cope with death and charting... at least it was patient oriented. Tomorrow i have more classes about more depth clinical training so im crossing my fingers that tomorrow is more exciting!! today was our first clock in day...and what do i do? clock in and leave later that day without ever clocking out... i always gotta mess up somewhere!
  25. yep. I have a month training... tomorrow is the day guys! wish me luck!!!
