remember if they need a IV,... veins are not at their "optimal" state. Give yourself a break. I am a hands and feet kind of a person, bt with infants whom are severely dehydrated, I always go for the scalp. These are the biggest and most visible veins on most kids. There are not as many nerve endings in the scalp than there is in the hand and other body parts. It just looks worse.

in the arm?? What the heck were they thinking?? i doubt that it was a nurse who was giving the shots. In the dr's offices they use Medical Assistants, quite often... they can not draw up medicaions, but they can give injections.

I worked at OPRMC, which is a HCA hospital, I was excited and felt it was a small town feeling hospital in the burbs. But, staff was overworked, under paid and many nursing coordinators and charge nurses did not have a clue on how to work with people without making people feel belittled. They use alot of agency nurses,and they seem to work on their own and the full time people seem bitter and anyone new to the units. I am a experienced nurse and recieved minimal orientation and did not recieve and back up when I needed it. I felt out of place and I kept to myself to stay busy. I wish things worked out. I ended up resigning, and I do't think anyone missed me.

If you want to be more than a staff nurse, you really need to have your BSN. I obtained my ADN five years ago, and I will be graduating in 03/2009 with my BSN through Graceland University's online program. Just look at the paper or onlne at job oppenings... it is required very frequently, and even a MSN is preferred... in many cases.

I live in Overland Park, and I love it!! I work at The University of Kansas ... the drive to work is like 15 mins. If you are a L&D nurse there are tons of opportunities here are some other hopsital that are more know for L&D, or at least put a bit of money towards the L&D uit.
