  1. A 3.3 is not that bad how are your science GPA's? Take the GRE and see how you do that is an indicator of how you will do in CRNA school (according to some school directors I talked to). Get some instructor certs ACLS, PALS, NRP, get your TNCC, ENPC (these are easy to obtain) CCRN/CEN certification would also be a big plus. Get some references from CRNAs for school (the gold standard) and I think you would do fine.
  2. My advice start sending out your apps for CRNA school and you will be done with this BS. Then you will get all of your breaks (and then some) your lunches, make 3x the money get much more vacation 1/10th the paperwork, no more PITA families to deal with and any difficuilt patients are put to sleep so no arguments. You also get to leave early some days with full pay. In addition no supervisors to deal with and you are much higher on the hospital food chain.
  3. what nonsense are you referring to? The war on poverty was started by the Johnson administration
  4. I'm not sure what the insensitivity is? We spend billions on welfare, food stamps, higher education (which are the biggest defaulters to the federal government), God forbid someone stands up and says the war on poverty is an utter failure they are called cruel, heartless, a bigot and many other choice words. Once they abolish the income tax and replace it with a consumption tax or a wealth tax then you will see the rich trust fund politicians come out kicking and screaming against taxes on the rich.
  5. I tend to agree across all economic lines but I see this alot with upper level wage earners. Some people will even max out credit cards in anticipation of filing bankruptcy
  6. how many times can one take the exam? Or is it different in each state?

what's your point? It doesn't change the fact of what I said about unions, or what I have observed when traveling. Nor does it contradict anything I said in this thread.
  8. jacads replied to vmburg's topic in General Nursing
I've worked several union hospitals as a traveler. I wouldn't be commenting on here If I hadn't and everything I say on here I have seen first hand and not just a time or two.

Try firing someone in a union. IT basicly takes an act of congress which wouldn't happen at an at will employer. In a union everyone gets the same raises no matter how productive you are. Unions promote a less than stellar attitude among staff (not referring to just RN's but all staff)

Took me a little while to learn this, but like a spouse you ain't gonna change anything. You either put up with it or leave
  11. are you a frequent flyer?
  12. jacads replied to vmburg's topic in General Nursing
You bet I'm self serving only in nursing to got to CRNA school. But I admit it freely. All I hear from a lot of nurses on here is how bad we scabs are, as if unions aren't totally self serving. The CNA in California is totally self serving. If you want to take less patients then deduct it from your pay on a ratio basis. If you currently take six patients then everyone you give up let the hospital take 15% from you. This idea that hospitals and administrtors are money grubbing slave drivers is ludicrous. If your job sucks that much then leave!!!

What I am referring too is the people that want to complain about strike nurses because they are greedy and refer to them as scabs. Unions are not there for patients they are soley there serving their members and when I hear nurses make it sound as though they are going on strike for patient care issues it is total crap. Nursing unions are just as self serving as any other unionized group.
  14. jacads replied to vmburg's topic in General Nursing
there are enough strikes going on to do it for a living an some people do, just like traveling RN's. They might be doing it for money and I'm sure 99% probably do, and there is nothing wrong with that. But, the fact that nurses going on strike make it sound like they are only doing it for patient care issues is total BS and you know it. I think nurses should be paid whatever you can get, but to act like Mother Theresa is total BS.
  15. jacads replied to vmburg's topic in General Nursing
Truth hurts!! Look at all the nurses in this thread bashing nurses for covering a strike because greedy union employees refuse to.
  16. jacads replied to vmburg's topic in General Nursing
Generalizations!! much like you nurses complaining about "scabs". What's the difference between a "scab" and a union nurse? You can fire a bad scab!!
  17. jacads replied to vmburg's topic in General Nursing
Blah blah we only strike for our patients welfare is total bullsh%t. Union nurses are among the greediest and laziest you will find. You don't like the way your hospital treats you then don't let the door hit you in the a$$ on the way out. If the hospital wants to pay $150/hr (which I sincerely doubt) since the going rate is $40/hr, it is none of your business. You just sit outside with your stupid picket sign and let some caring nurses in to really take care of the patients an treat them like the union never will.
  18. Corporations by design are governed by share holders and unless it is not for profit its gaol is to maximize profits, bottom line whether you like it or not. If I had stock in the company I would want the maximum profits it could make.
  19. How many questions are there one the exam? Do you take the whole exam or will it cut off if you get to a certain point one way or another? How long till you get results? If you do fail how long till you can retake the exam? Lastly, how much does it cost?
  20. congrats your hard work and dedication paid off

  22. Texas pays crap especially in Houston. They want to pay travelers less than $30/hr which is an insult!!! The traffic and at will killings in the Houston area make it definitely not worth it. As far as Minnesota not having much of a shortage I see very good pay rates in Minnesota as compared to what I was making in South Dakota and I believe that is why they do not have a shortage. I have yet to be able to find a traveling position in Minnesota.
  23. I like Excelsior's motto "It's what you know, not how or where you learned it!"
  24. Unions are more for the worthless employees than stellar ones. I was a traveler at a union hospital and you couldn't get ancillary staff to help you to save your life, and if it didn't get done who was ultimately responsible the RN. You can't get rid of the worthless in a union hospital and the really good employees move on at some point.
