Hey, no I didn't take the la assignment! However, I've been to san francisco and I have to say that I love that area and still miss it to this day! Everyone there was sooo nice for a big city! Lots to do, see, shop, and eat! Weather literally inside the city sucked, d/t the bay breeze. However you can go 30 mmins north, south, or east and the weather is PERFECT! Haven't been to san diego but have never heard anything but good things about that area! Good luck and keep us all updated

Need some advise if i should except a position of what its like for keiser on sunset? and whats life like in l.a?? I was in san fran for 8 months last year and LOVED it, however i know l.a. is different. Just don't how! Would be coming across country. Money not a huge deal. just interested in life in l.a. I hear the traffics bad: (( Im very down to earth, any people like that there? What kind of fun to be had? I know these may sound crazy, just not sure what to expect! Has anyone ever done a travel assignment in lewes, delaware? How was the hospital? What is there to do there? Any nightlife? GOod resturants? I would be going in june-october. I'm assuming weather gets cold in september.. any information would help.. thanks a lot!

Sorry, I worked at stanford in palo alto. I loved it there. however I'm sure you already know about them...Don't know a thing about the Keiser in san fran. Just know I have never heard anything good about any keiser, esp. in cali. However maybe in the city it will be different. Good luck!

Congrats on the assignment, you will LOVE san fran. I was there for 8 months and left at the end of june. I had roommates as well and we had a darn blast! Im jealous of your assignment. Now as far as housing goes there are a lot of housing on craigslist, I would check there. DO NOT get housing in the tenderloin area, this is the worst part of town from what I saw and understood to be true! I however stayed at Fox Plaza on market street. It was bordering tenderloin, however I had no issues what so ever with anything. I saved a lot of money with roommates there. Its decent housing with decent prices and a Great location close to everything. However I'm sure there are other locations of craigslist you may find more appealing. Public transportation around the city is the best you will find no problems there. Try the website 511.org ( I think thats the right website) for transportation schedules etc.. If you are working outside the city transportation is going to be a hassle. Ohhh, have lots of fun, party every day and let everyone know how you like it,. let me know if you have any other ?'s. If I were you I would for sure not to start traveling in this market. It is not a good idea in my opinion to leave a secure job for a BRAND NEW travel position! It seems to be hard for even seasoned travelers. I have been traveling for 8 months and have been extremely lucky. I lot of the travelers, or ex-travelers I should say, have not been so lucky at all. And there are a lot of them. Not trying to scare anyone, just trying to be honest as this is a conversation about life! Its no joke when you are in a different place, work, town and your by yourself.... the travel market is bound to pick up at some time which gives us travelers more options

Any idea how much housing subdity is san diego?? any idea which area is safe, affordable and fun?? thanks for any input

I am in san francisco now and make only 30.75/hr. Not much but I guess more than southern cali. The area is great.. I like it here.. Good luck.. THe stipend for housing should be 2300 AT LEAST. Cross country will give you 2500. I am with nurses rx and had to fight to get 2300

As the prior replyer said, I would avoid american mobile at all cost including all of their sister companies.. They suck to high heaven.. Good luck. I have a friend with cross country now who is very satisfied with her recruiter..

Thats so interesting your from nc, b/c I'm from the raleigh area too. I worked at Duke for six years. I started traveling last november and the market has taken a huge nose dive since then. I had three interviews last year for jobs two months before i even started and now I have nothing yet. So I would not recommend traveling right now. However I guess that it depends on the situation that your in. Thanks for the info on texas and arizona. Something is better than nothing!!! Well keep me informed. I would love to know whats going on with other people.. Take care..

I know that the travel market is extremely slow right now. I guess my question is how extremely slow is it? I am from NC. and am in california. Not sure what to expect when my contract ends in may.. I don't want to go home however I want to be mentally preparred if I have to. So what kind of contracts have ya'll got in cali or the surrounding areas?? What have ya'll heard from recruiters and others about traveling nursing in this economy?? I love doing this but not really sure what to expect when my contract ends.. Thanks for any advise, info.. I work with american mobile.. I don't think that you can pm until you have posted at least 15 - 20 posts or something like that. Anyways, its just a job, but if I were you I would not go with american mobile. However, I have either heard in person or on the internet heard bad things about a lot of travel companies. So, I can not promise anything.. but I would bet that if you ended up with american mobile you would end up in the same postition that i am in. I just hope not. Traveling is great, I LOVE it. We are so lucky to have this oppurtunity and I am glad that I have taken the chance. If you have not started.. and your not afraid of the market now and are having job oppurtunitites, I strongly advise you to do it. You will not regret it.... Good lucky sweety:yeah:

I haven't heard a truer statement in almost all my life.. I have lived in the south my whole life. I recently took a job in ca.. There is a HUGE work ethic difference for the better. I feel like i'm in heaven everyday when I go to work just b/c people do what there suppose to do and want to do it. I can't believe it. Even if i'm having a bad day it's not really that bad and I realize it. The patients and family members as you say are so nice and thankful and the way the take care of their own family members touches my heart.. I have not had one person writing down everything I do, every medication I am giving, and as you say with the threats as of yet. Its so nice. I'm kind of glad I worked in the south and have the oppurtunity to compare it to the west. When other nurses I work with are complaining about their day at work I think I had a pretty darn good day (though I never say it out loud). I feel very thankful to have the oppurtunity to be able to see this side of the country. its a nice eye opener. I'm glad someone brought this up, I could talk about this all day long.. but for ya'lls sake.. I guess I won't.. ha ha ha

I would have to agree with everyone about american mobile and nurses rx. If you have a choice do not choose american mobile. They are all lies, greedy, and ruthless.. I personaly do not have any idea which is the best company. However it doesn't take long on the internet before you realize what amn is all about. Good luck to you sweety and I hope that you find something that you like and at least with a decent, honest recruiter... Just FYI.. traveling is amazing and you will really like it

thanks. you know what?? I have no one to blame about the travel nurse company decision. I read on the internet about how they were and I went with them anyways. Heyy you live and learn and that company has taught me a thing or two about bad business and shady, greedy people in business. So I can not say that I came away from amn not knowing anything, b/c I did learn a lot about business. ON the other hand I am glad that you like your company, thats great. Hopefully no one will have the dishonesty and shadyness that I have experienced. I am so enjoying myself and glad that I have done travel nursing.. I will just say that I feel as though I have learned a lot about business on this go round... happy holidays everyone!!

I am currently in mountain view, ca working with american mobile at stanford. I like the job and area a lot. However, the one thing that I dread is talking to my recuiter and to be honest I have met nearly ten other american mobile nurses and they feel the same way. They try to screw you every chance they get.. my new thing w/ them is the are like lawyers..I'm not sure how they can go to sleep at night after doing that they do to nurses. Anyhow, if you do end up w/ them like I did hopefully you'll have a better experience. It is to my understanding that they have the most contracts out here. I was told and read about how bad they were and ended up with them as well. Like I said I like the job, love the area, hate the recruiter buisness *&%$... just had to throw that you there for you.

I love traveling, you sound like that type of person that would enjoy traveling also. The money issue is one reason that you have a recruiter that you TRUST above all else. That relationship plays a big role in your experience. So good luck..

I wonder who her recruiter is?? Mine is awful, other travel nurses have heard how bad she is. I know that we cannot put names on the internet , however I am really enjoying travel nursing but would do almost anything to have a better relationship with my recruiter. Was wondering how difficult is was to find a job in california in the mid feb. ?? Everyone is pressuring me to resign where I am, but I am interested in going elsewhere in cali. this is my first assignment, so not sure how the playing field was in the new year with the finding a job thing. I do not want to be jobless, with the economy and jobs being slow to come by these days. Hope everyone is enjoying their assignment out there: ))
