New grad camp nurse! Please helpppp!!! Lots of questions!
I too took a camp nursing job as a new grad except I waited til the following summer having not been able to find a job that whole year because I was labeled a new grad. My first camp wasn't sleep away it was a day camp and it was shorts and a camp tshirt and definately sneakers. At this camp there really wasn't enough down time to do anything except help the kids. Things like bus sickness in the mornings, sand in the eyes, bee stings, and alot just needed to cool off and grab a cold drink. We had 1 sprained wrist from doing cartwheels and 1 asthma attack. So know your kids with asthma and allergies.. This summer I'm doing sleep away camp. I am bringing my peds book hoping that during down time I can read up on since I'm a school nurse. I'm not sure of things we can do when we aren't actually on, I'm hoping that I can relax read and enjoy the sun and maybe take a hike..

Why Aren't School Nurses Given Due Respect?
i get it all the time why didn't you want to be a real nurse? i cant lie i knew all through nursing school i wanted to do school nursing but never thought it would be my first nursing job... i looked for a job for over a year in a hosptal and acute care but nothing and then came this job which i love and wouldnt trade for the world.. i do wish i would have gotten some more clinical experience but i have a good support system at school...

Question about Jobs in NJ.
So I graduated almost a year ago I'm in my 3rd semester for my BSN and being enrolled in that program doesn't help!!!! I can't even begin to tell you how many apps I've filled out and gotten almost zero response I have no idea how I'm going to pay all these student loans back when I end up working at mc Donald's next year!!!

Frustrated...sigh.
In the same boat... I'm fearful I'm not going to find anything at all.. With new grads coming fresh out school soon that puts me in a worse position.!! Not so new grad!!! I really just don't know what to do anymore!! I would have never thought it would be this hard to find a job especially because I'm so outgoing and friendly!! Well probably not anymore!!! Wasted three years for I hope something...I left a good paying non rewarding job because when I left work I felt like I could be doing more and I'm not I'm unemployed miserable all the time and struggling to make ends meet and have my 2 kids and husband living in my childhood bedroom all because I wanted to be a role model to my children!!! Great Plan---backfired... Now what ... How much longer do i torment myself ignoring my kids because mommy has just one more application to fill out online or mommy wants to drive an hour away to fill out applications that no one is going to call her back!!! As I cry myself to sleep every night regretting the choice I've made!!! I hope that this is not the end?

Anyone working, w kids, & doing nursing school? Advice?
I live in NJ but I thought I was gonna be able to do it all. Work full time, kids, and husband. It was hard. Work was 8 hours a week if that and kids got dropped off monday before school and sometimes not picked up till late friday night. I got alot of crap about it from other friends and relatives. School starts at 7-8 and I would stay to study or go over notes and sometimes wouldnt get home til 7-8 and at this point I was tired and drained. Glad to say i graduated. Good Luck
