Can someone please tell me exaclty what RN's do?
shadowing a nurse would be a good idea. nurses do alot from the dirty or work to tech work to everything. and it depends on what speciality you shadow a nurse on. to reallly get a grip, shadow a nurse that is doing what you would like [if you can] it should show you if you really would like it, so you dont waste your time and money for anything if you love it, DO IT

Do you know the right answer?
first i would say "what do you mean by "not acting right"?" then i would do what get the pt nurse to check on them...since they know them better? makes since of course....hmmm

Ripped Off
first of all CONGRADULATIONS :hpygrp: i know you feel like you have been ripped off, especially with the rescheduling and the addition of the MA's getting pinned with you. [i just cant believe they added them and cut you guys off, BECAUSE THEY WERE COMPLAINING! uggggg tell them to grow up... they already have their bacholers ceremony and all, its your turn!!!] also... its hard to ask people who want to be there take a friday after noon [ in the middle of the darn day] off to come when your only invited two people i know your class is boycotting and i do not blame you and i cant believe there is no other way to have kept your day and they have their own some other week! thats CRAZY! them telling you to shut up and take or leave it is ridiculous! i mean its your day and you worked hard for it...and all the time and MONEY spent to do this...i mean what are they saving it for? ugg ok well i would say have your own pinning if the school doesnt put their act together on this issue! hope it works out well!

Night and Weekend Program???
well just remember you can do anything you set your mind to. it sounds really do-able and as someone stated before, it isnt a permanent thing. soon you will graduate and be able to make good and doing what you want to do. so again its temporary and try your best!

a & p
i guess of biology or anything in bio like A & P, would be hard if your not a BIO person and you dont really understand things well. in high school i did sports medicine for a year then did an internship as a sports med assistant for a year. it really helped, i can still remember the organ systems (they are not difficult) bones and muscles and how they flex and stuff. unfortunately bio was a prerequisite for any thing higher like microbiology, biochemistry, anatomy and physiology. so i HAD to take general bio just to get into a & p. I HATE PREREQUISITES! so i mean, if you think you can handle it then go ahead. you can ask me for anything if you need help. BEST OF LUCK!

Plese HELP ME! How do I become a Nurse?
i dont know if you could get a masters in nursing if you have a psychology degree, but you can try and find out to your other question; i would either get an ADN and get your RN license then maybe your nursing job will pay for your BSN OR go straight to a BSN. especially an accelerated BSN. i know getting a second bachelors might be kind of waste but it being in nursing will pay off. as for your GPA. i wouldnt worry too bad about it, you after all did graduate and got a degree, i mean if it was that bad then you may not have graduated and got your degree in the first place. to get to a masters program in nursing will require a bachelors soon or later anyway, whether you start with a ADN or not. so i would look in to schools. try your state's board of nursing site...it will give you schools and their programs that they give accreditation to. HOPE IT HELPS & GOOD LUCK! we are rooting for you! :w00t:

Need Advice sooo depressed!!
oh no. dont give up! stay cool anyway just try your best! i know right now it might seem like you may not get in right away but there is always going in a semester late. i know how it feels wanting to get in now, i had the same problem. i was doing prerequisites and the nursing school admissions (@ a CC) said that i would not be going into the program until 2010 because of a GPA being high enough, prerequisites and their good grades with them. so dont give up. maybe if you want, spread your classes out; having a family isnt easy while going to school. so to save you from any kind of stress, slow down. its going to be hard and if you think that the prerequisites are hard, wait until you start the actual program, its very stressful, time consuming, and draining. so i would start slow so you wont be overwhelmed. i know exactly how you feel, and if you think your grades arent good enough, rather than take them over try to talk to your school counselor or nursing school admissions counselor to see if they will take your C. its worth a try. if so, then thats good and you have nothing to worry about, if not then at least you know what you will have to do. so dont give up or be depressed. it will be well worth it in the end onc eyour in and done... GOOD LUCK!

What Math Should I Prepare For
well most pre-requisites for nursing programs are general/college level alegbra but i think that a higher alegbra or trig may help you, if you need it. i did calculus and its helping me even though i dont do all of those equations though. GOOD LUCK

is there any chance...
there is still a chance! if there is a will there is a way right? maybe if the LPN classes dont work, or the school is very strict on the GPA requirement then how bout trying a different school? the school i am attending requires a GPA of AT LEAST a 3.0 and i have like a 2.9 (so close yet so far...:stone) well as i said if you somehow cannot get into your particular schools program then how bout trying a different school? what i found helpful was going to my states[CA] board of nursing site. if you search around the site, it will give a list of nursing schools and where they are in your state. it will also list whether it has accelerated programs, night, and weekend classes. i would try that. i know your trying hardest to become and nurse and follor your dream but dont give up!:wink2:

I Got an Interview!
also some other questions they may ask you 5. What are your strengths? 6. What are your weaknesses? 7. Where do you see yourself in 4 years? and few others i cant think off... BEST OF LUCK!!!

Anyone ever feel like giving up?
yeah i have felt the way you do. i was going to apply to a CC and then found out that i couldn't start the program until 2010 because of the waitlist and getting into prerequisite classes. i know its going to be hard and its going to be tiring and challenging; but soon you will find the right school. dont give up! keep your head up and strong like I did you will find something. as as someone had previously stated above, since there is a shortage of RNs and such, that means that everyone is trying to be one just because the occupation is in need. they are doing it for the wrong reasons. real people like you who have the kind of passion are trying their best to get off the waitlist and become your dream. i know right now it doesnt seem much, but soon you will get in and complete your goal. best of luck

Community College programs in California
by the way. you do not HAVE to be an MA or an LVN to be an RN or get into a nursing school...i dont know who had the balls telling you that but it isnt true. if you think about it freshmens right out of high school go straight to get their BSN and their RN. so i dont understand what they told you. i currently switched my major from veterinary science to becoming an RN and that was no problem, i am not becoming an LVN or a MA to be accepted. so i was just wondering why they told you that. the only reason i can see why they told you that was because maybe they only had a LVN to RN program at that school. ...just curious... again hope this helps...

Community College programs in California
ok well try thses links for schools, maybe if you are not too much into the program you could tranfer to an accelerated program here is california's nursing programs, (seperated by ADN [top] and BSN [after ADN]) on the side of each school it will have a checkmark if it has weekend classes or night classes or has a fast track accelerated programs: http://www.rn.ca.gov/schools/rnprograms.shtml and here is the programs that do RN-BSN http://www.rn.ca.gov/schools/rntobsnprograms.shtml so i would look at these sites because they are the off the board of nursing site for CA. all of the schools are fully accredited. hope this helps

RN or RN to BSN? And night classes? Day jobs?
i would say bsn for both of you. and here is why now there is no problem with getting a ADN then becoming an RN then maybe getting your BSN, because frankly, that is what i planned on doing. but since alot of CC's are waitlisted and using lotteries or only accepting really high academic people (3.7+ GPA) i would go for a BSN. I am now going to a private university and getting my BSN and there is no waitlist there, probably because it takes alot of money to go there in the first place, but take money out of consideration, money doesnt matter when it comes to education. if its your dream, and its going to cost you, then do it...because it will definintly pay off in the end. now back to getting a ADN vs BSN well if you think about it alot of hospitals or nursing homes or clinics mostly take anyone with the minimum requirement of a BSN (maybe its just the state i live in [CA]) so that right there that should help and if you have a higher degree, 99.9% of the time (experience is not a factor, i am just talking degrees) BSN pays way more than a ADN does. and there are a lot of RN to BSN programs everywhere. so i would just go to your state's [and this is what i did] board of nursing site and look at the colleges they favor and pick one of those, my states board of nursing site highly recommended the school i am going to and accredites it fully. so that is one way to see another way is look at nursing jobs and see what the majority of them require as far as degrees, again experience is a nonfactor for the sake of this situation. sorry for the length but i hope this helps

Possibilities for a Minor?
i agree. if you really really REALLY have the time and energy into fitting in those extra minor classes, than go for it and i think that a language minor would be probably the best (unless your ABSOLUTELY postive on what type of nursing your going to like doing). because if you want to minor in chemistry but you end up doing some part of nursing that doesnt require alot of chemistry (besides basics and stuff) then thats a waste . language would probably be the best minor especially if you live where i live in SO CAL. spanish or maybe chinese would be best to get and it would make your resume look good by being bilingual. again all depending on your time management, stress, patience and need/liking for that minor to make your decision on whether to get a minor or not. ' hope this helps

Classes start 29th...still no support!
well i didnt get any negative feedback at all, then again i have several family members who are nurses... but my instant career switches and college choices have made my family uneasy about this major i originally planned on becoming a veterinarian because i love animals but i cannot handle them being hurt (an internship at a animal hospital didnt help) and so i have always wanted to be in the medical field (and my mom has always thought so too, so thus she supports) so i decided to be a nurse, and i am liking it even more as i study and mature and grow to learn more things bout the field. so i mean i would tell those people who dont believe or think that you are making a big mistake should can-it. because if it is your dream and your desire and it will make you happy with your job and life, then by all means GO FOR IT!

Community College programs in California
have you tried a cal state or uc? or even a private and can live on campus?
-
err can anyone relate? [VL]
yeah that is true but experience isnt the problem, its the classes and all the prerequisites is the problem, anyone could go volunteer but if you dont have the academic side making a dent then experience wont do anything either... but i appreciate the uplifting and honest. it means alot more than you think...

err can anyone relate? [VL]
hey i am a pre-nursing student in so cal and is it me or is almost (and that is an overstatment) every cc or university impacted for nursing majors? i finally found a place to go at a cc but i wouldnt be able to start the nursing program until 2010 :imbar because of prerequisites issues and now i am finally at a university (because it is private and = $$$) and i am finally in but its just amazing that this particular major is SOOO impacted its not even funny. oh and another thing that maybe you all can relate to me about is ALL OF THOSE DARN PREREQUISITES!!!! i mean most programs will not exept you unless you got the basic science coursse, and thats understand able but all that darn book work and time better help with that major. i am just a little scared because i will have the prerequisites done in summer 2009 [and thats because those prerequisites have prerequisites err:banghead:] so i can start the program in fall of 2009 (as i said, those prerequisites are a pain in my tushy and my time!!!) so but the only problem is that i have to apply to the program in the middle of spring 2009, i mean i dont want to wait a whole other year to start the program because schools cant suck it up and take "courses in progress"... anyone relate to this mess?:stone
-
So I'm thinking it would have been less painful............
ha ha how funny yeah i took sports medincine in high school then did my senior year intern as a sports medicine assitant. we have to know like every bone and muscle and stuff it was crazy! it helps to have part of the bone/joint/area in the name so its easy to remember where it goes!!!
