  1. I still do belive it all comes down to the policy of the facility, and the Nurse Practice Act for LPN"s within the State. I urge you to protect your license.
  2. We as nurses need not have such a pacifist attitude towards this individual, he is a RACIST and his behaviour should not have been encouraged, unless this racism is condone by this hospital in question. I don't belive anyone is forcing themselves on anyone when you make a decision to come to the hospital you are sick and need the service of the Medical PROFESSIONALS that practice at that Hospital, regardless of the color of their skin, he should have been told to go to an all white hospital.
  3. Is this legal !! The Board of Nursing in New Mexico is aware of this practice.
  4. The initial assessment can be done by an LPN, but must be co-signed by the RN present. Need to know what is the policy of the facility, and the Nurse Practice Act within that State. Please protect your license.
  5. There is doubt that the nurses is wrong about administering the Diprivan without an order, and disciplinary actions should be taken, but at a hospital level, considering the length of time that some of those nurses worked at that facility. It appears that the underlying problem here was that the nurses were heading down the path of being unionized, and Ms. Gruebbel (Vice President for patient care) found an opening to get rid of these long timers, again I do not condone what the nurses have done, but I think that along with the nurses Ms Gruebbel and the Manager of the said Unit who reported the incident, and the Pharmarsist should be fired. It appears that there are no check and balances in this Hospital or as the nurses stated it a common practice known by all parties concern, so if you are going to clean house start from the top, and let us not exclude the Physicians who has been signing these orders for years. The root cause analysis indicates that this is a system wide process flaw, but as usual only certain participants is being singled out.
  6. MICU- Medical Intensive Unit SICU- Surgical Intensive Unit CCU- Coronary Care Unit
  7. The Two Nurses did not follow the Nurse Practice Act, they were acting outside the scope of their practice. If they were RN's they ought to know better. Nurses who work in facilities where the Physicians do not which to be called at night need to protect their License by demanding that the hospital Administrator address this issue because the bottom line is that you will be left between a rock and a hard place.
