Flamed during report.
I am very interested to know why you do not feel it is important to know how much or when we last administered a very potent narcotic pain medication:confused:

Best staffed specialty?????
I have to put a plug in for my specialty. PACU has a 1:1 or 1:2 ratio and the patients come in, wake up, and move out.

Role Call! RN to BSN online students........
I started at IWU in February and I love it for all of the reasons that you stated. Also, no tests only essays, presentations and papers!

What squicks you out?
Dentures!!! I can handle the smell of gas gangrene but I can't stand dentures. I don't even like to touch the denture cup (Also, extra digits freak me out.)

Nurse, There's a Spider in My Throat
A few years ago I saw some pictures taken during a patient upper endoscopy after he had been trying to siphon water from his water bed using as old garden hose. He was sucking on the hose to get the flow of water started and inhaled an ant nest! The doctor who preformed the endo said they were crawling all over the place.

University of Phoenix ON LINE Nursing program
I looked into Phoenix and then chose Indiana Wesleyan University. It is 100% online. You log in any time 24/7. It is 280/credit hour with most classes being 3 credit hours. They have a nice payment plan for people with some tuition reembursment. I love it! :balloons:

My slow recovery from wisdom tooth removal
I had numbness also. They told me that if it did not resolve 6 weeks it never would. Well they were wrong. I was numb (chin, right side of upper lip) for a year. The feeling slowly came back and is almost normal now. It did drive me crazy and when the feeling started to come back it felt like bugs crawling under my skin. :stone

I made a huge mistake.. I made up vitals and got caught..
I just hope that people realize you are an MA and not a Nurse!!!

I am steamed
you were not blowing this out of proportion. The cath nurse is uneducated in our specialty and safe staffing ratios. I would feel the same way. :angryfire

SCD's and TED hose
We use them both all the time on our bigger post-ops. It will be interesting to see what everyone else does.

Pacu Nursing
hips, and total knees go on beds all most all others go on stretchers. I wish all pts could go on beds. They say it is too much wear and tear on the expensive beds.

IV potassium
Our hospital has a policy. If a Dr. orders 30meq you will be sent 3 IVPB's with 10meq each, to run over one hour each. (alway on a pump)
-
Same Day Discharge
We have no policy regarding this. It will be interesting to see what others are doing.

Assignments and floating...how do you deal???
I am a House Supervisor dealing with these same issues. When one unit is short we look to see if another unit is over. The least senior nurse floats. The exception would be if the least senior nurse did not have the skills to care for pt on the new unit. When this happens ,I explaine to the more senior nurse why the decison was made. (our PRN nurses have no senority) We still hear alot of "why do I have to go, why can't so-and-so go " That why we try to be very consistant with our float policy. I know no one likes to float, but pt care and safety come first.

CPR and Cracked Sternums
CPR is very invasive
-
Post Op. Nurse Escorts.
we are staffed with all RN's and one LPN. Our LPN along with an OR transporter (nurse assistant) transport all our pts to the floor unless they are going to ICU(then the pts Rn and transporter take the pt). There is no way the floor RN's would come get their pts. even if they had the time, which they don't.
