  1. hum, well that almost sounds like nurses only treat the small stuff. i'm just taking my pre-reqs right now, but the thought of my duties of being a nurse is pretty intense. just imagine, (if you will) that one mistake could cost someone their life. it's a lot more than just dealing with a cut or broken finger. it's knowing and retaining all that you're learning in school so you know exactly what you're doing. kudos to all the nurses~!
  2. :chuckle:chuckle LOL, I was cracking up while I read these, way too funny. Thanks so much for the laughs this afternoon, I needed them!!
  3. that is a good idea on the color coding. i might try something like that myself. :) my math and english classes start oct. 21, but i'm doing those online i'm just glad to be starting after so many trips to ivy tech! anyone going to be starting the nursing program in 09 at bloomington?
  4. thank you sooooo much! i'll have a look at these and i'm sure it will help. thanks to all of you for your help and comments.....:redpinkhe
  5. lol....ok, i'll do just that! thanks everyone!! :heartbeat
  6. awesome! now i feel better knowing that. i was thinking all my hopes and dreams of going to school were coming to a halt. i'm going in and talking to someone this morning so i hope all goes well. wish me luck~! :anpom: and thank you for all the comments about this. you all are so wonderful and so helpful!!! :heartbeat:heartbeat:heartbeat:heartbeat
  7. does anyone know if you get back your fafsa and it says you're not eligible, does that mean you're not going to get into school at ivy tech? has anyone had this happen? if so, were you able to get your financial aid working with an advisor? (financial advisor) thanks in advance~!
  8. Thanks you guys for the information and help. :redpinkhe I guess I tend to forget we all have to start somewhere and we're not just 'born' with all there is to know about nursing. Maybe it's because the nurses I've encountered over the years have made it just seem so easy and maybe I put it out of my mind or didn't stop to think they too had to learn all of this. I guess I should think back to when I began as a CNA, it was all new to me then too, just not as complicated! (LOL) I still remember how to do all the deeds of a CNA. It really never leaves you and becomes a part of who you are. Plus, the fact I used to work at a Plasma center, so I know a little bit about palpating and I was pretty good on all my sticks. I never hit the wall of a vein, so that's something good to keep in the back of my mind as well. I guess I'm looking into this a little more than I should. I just need to relax and take it one step at a time. I just want to do the best job possible in school and I think that's what bugs me the most. You hear all these horror stories and it really does begin to take root inside of you. Anyway, thanks again for the helpful advice! I love this site so much! :heartbeat:heartbeat:heartbeat:heartbeat
  9. LOL! :yeah::yeah:Ain't that the truth :fnypst:
  10. i have a question for everyone, but first let me begin by saying i'm not in school yet. i'm just waiting for my fafsa and then the fun will begin i'm sure. my question is, how in the world do you memorize everything? i've been doing some studying on my own for a & p and i have to say i'm a bit overwhelmed! i started watching a webcast from berkeley taking notes and really getting into it and then it occurred to me..... i need help! (lol) how did you or how are you, memorizing everything? let alone trying to remember how to spell all these bones, cells and muscles? yikes!!! anyway, i was hoping someone had an idea of how to take all this in.... thanks!
  11. keeping everyone in my thoughts and prayers. :redpinkhe
  12. very cool! i've had years of experience as a cna, many moons ago. i worked as a cna for about 9 years before i became a stay at home mom which i have plenty of experince in, do they hand out a prize for that? cause i never got mine (lol)
  13. :yeah: WOOHOO, good for you!
  14. lol, is there a class for that? finding your cell phone 101. i figure as long as i don't forget where i put my son, i'm good to go! :chuckle
  15. LOL, I always say I'm like Peter Pan when asked that question...I won't grow up :chuckle You're only as old as you feel and on a good day I'm like 21~! :clown: Don't even ask about the bad days... but I'm sure Boris Karloff would have taken the role.
  16. lol, yup we're like fine wine, i like that~! i just hope i don't pop my cork while i'm taking these classes :chuckle i'm going to take my compass on wednesday and take it from there. i guess i'm thinking along the lines as you, just take it one class, one step at a time and things will go as smooth as butter. i found myself thinking about having to take 'extra' classes where i'm the weakest, but now i realize it's going to take me where i want to be in the end, so why stress over it. i'm hoping i can take most of the classes online so i can still hold down the fort at home.
  17. I agree with you, when I was in school, I didn't care about learning at all. It was more important to focus on football games and where we would go to after the big game. I really blew it for myself, but managed to grow up just a bit with A's in my last 2 years of high school. Now, I'm faced with the price I have to pay for having a good time when I was younger because I have to begin all over and relearn things that I should have paid attention to. I know that my compass test will be a huge joke, since I've been out of school since 1980. Plus you add in the fact I pretty much goofed around all but 2 years of my entire schooling when I was younger, and I'm sure I'll have to take a lot of classes just to get to my pre-reqs. I rode my 2 boy's about the importance of school and what will happen if you goof off. My oldest did a great job in school and has a wonderful job making really good money for himself and his family. My youngest is 14 and has Asperger's, but he made the Honor Society last year. He had all A's and B's during the school year. Good to know I taught my 2 boys not to follow in my footsteps! I think when you're older, you're more focused on what's important in your life. Now, I'm going after something I've wanted since I was a kid...... I know I can do it!
  18. wow, that's the same thing i was thinking! i first thought about just going for the lpn, but most ppl who have the lpn behind them go for the rn anyway...so that's what i'm thinking at this point...just do it all now and be done with school and do something i wanted to do since i was a kid. glad to know you're going for your rn, that's so awesome and i wish you the best in all you do!
  19. Oh wow, thank you for the information. That really helped a lot :yeah: YIPPEE!!!! I'm going to Ivy Tech tomorrow and I'll then register. I feel a lot better knowing I can do some of these classes online. Gosh, it's amazing how much you can learn from people in the program vs information Ivy T gives you!!! Thank you so much you guys! You've been such a BIG help to me! :redpinkhe:redpinkhe:redpinkhe
  20. lol, i hear that i'm the same way about planning and organizing. i guess that's why this is really getting to me because i have no way to plan without knowing what to do first with these classes. i just keep going around and around on this ride and i'm getting a bit dizzy :chuckle:chuckle i.t has been little or no help at all i have more questions now than i did before! ahhhhh!! :chuckle:eek: ps...it's awesome you already had iu for some of those credits :yeah:
  21. thanks, but i was under the impression you could only go to the mandatory meeting after you did your teas. this is the way it was explained to me....apply at ivy tech, do your compass testing, do your pre-reqs, take the teas, attend the mandatory meeting to pick up the application for the nursing program. i can do all the pre-reqs online before i even apply to the nursing program, can't i? i know what you mean about not getting too much information from the school. it's a good thing i found this site, because going back and forth to campus.... i'm getting nowhere fast! (lol) :banghead:
  22. Thanks, did you just go to the campus to sign up for the online classes? I'm going to go back to the campus tomorrow and I'm NOT leaving until I have this all clear in my mind. It's all been so frustrating so far not knowing where to begin and speaking to an advisor that made me feel like I shouldn't even be thinking about the nursing program. I felt about 2 inches tall after I left... I'm not totally stupid, but I'm very green about all of this and to be honest it all sounds like Greek to me! (LOL)
  23. Does anyone know what classes are available online for Bloomington Ivy Tech? This is all so new to me and truth be told, I have no clue where I need to start. I'm so green at this it isn't even funny I did go to Ivy Tech last week, but this was never brought up by one of the advisors, and since I'm not too sure about the programs I didn't even know to ask. It wasn't until I found this thread I knew about Ivy Tech having pre-requites available online.... I feel so stupid right now! :selfbonk: I've been out of school for many, many years....Since 1980, so if anyone has information that would be helpful to me, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm just scratching my head at this point, not really knowing where I need to begin... Thanks! :heartbeat:heartbeat:heartbeat
