Alzheimer's question
Hello all!! I just took on a charge nurse position (LVN) on an Alzheimer's unit @ a LTC. Anyone have any good ideas for activities for these folks? We do have an activity director for this unit but apparently she's not very enthusiastic about her job and administration asked if I could come up with some ideas.

Missed scheduled test time
Thanks for replying....I spent the day at the BON today. I did pay the $200 a few weeks ago but Pearsonvue never told me I had to contact my BON. After I waited 3 weeks for another ATT letter, I called and then they told me they can't do anything until I contact my BON. I could've done this 3 weeks ago if I'd known!! Today I had to pay again for the license fee plus go get fingerprinted. My temp license expires next week and they said the can't extend it. I know in a few years this will be just a memory but it is EXTREMELY frustrating right now!!!!!

Missed scheduled test time
Has anyone ever missed your scheduled nclex exam due to circumstances that were out of your control? i.e. traffic or anything else? This happened to me and I'm having a hard time getting another test date.

LVN School in San Antonio
Try St. Philips College. They have an LVN program. You just need to take an entrance exam. http://www.accd.edu/spc

Austin/San Marcos relocation//hospice
Hello.....I work in San MArcos. (not in the medical field) If you chose to live in San MArcos, Austin would not be that long of a commute for you. Kyle and Buda are just booming with new houses right now. If you decide to live in SAn MArcos, New Braunfels is just 15 miles south of there. Their hospital is McKenna. That might be something to look into also.

San Antonio nursing opportunities
Hello! I live right outside of San Antonio and I'm going to school there. There are LOTS of hospitals to choose from in that city. As far as being the best, I'm not sure about that. I have a class with 2 people that are aids at Northeast Methodist and they love it there, but there are several to choose from. The newspaper is San Antonio express news. http://www.MySanAntonio.com click on the website on Sundays, that's when all the hospitals advertise for help. Hope this helps!:)

why no responses to my post
I definitely do not think LPN school will be a waste of your time! Have you noticed our economy?!? Lay offs every where. No one is hiring. LPN's or RN's will always be in demand. For me, I'm going to LPN school to provide for my family. One day I will go back for my RN, but when you have a family, you have to take one step at a time!

Getting Started In The San Antonio Area
I am currently taking prereqs at St. Philips, I have taken some at San ANtonio College, but the campus is so huge I get lost in all the hustle and bustle, St Philips is smaller and more personal. One plus for San Antonio college is they have alot more on-line courses and telecourses to offer than St Philips. You said you checked into Northwest Vista, I didn't think they had a nursing program at that campus? The Baptist Health care system has a nursing program, but is alot more expensive than the community colleges, If ypur looking the LVN route, there is Health institute of San ANtonio, which is also alot pricier too. Hope this helps you out!

San Marcos
San MArcos is a beautiful town. I work there. (not as a nurse, still going to school) The town has everything you could want, hospital, nursing homes, Austin is just right up the road. The thing that drives me crazy.... the traffic is TERRIBLE when the college kids are back from break.
