  1. ah! See, we don't have unions in Texas.
  2. I was a nurse asst. for year before I started nursing school. I learned a lot and also appreciate nurse asst. now! I was treated like crap by a lot of nurses who felt I was too dumb to be anything else without even knowing me. I also know all the tricks that CNAs like to pull so no one is getting anything by me :)
  3. I applied to nursing school like 3 or 4 times!!! My GPA was a 3.88. I decided to go finish my bachlors degree in another field then tried again. By then they had changed up how they let people in (decided that just because you have a 4.0 in 4 classes DOESN'T make you the best nurse) and got in. It was tough...and even tougher when I went through nursing school. But I say if you really want it...keep trying!
  4. I had a pin. wasn't as bad as I thought it would be...but expensive! It had the school logo on it and a chain comming off of it that said RN.
  5. wow! I'm going to guess that you guys made so much more because cost of living is more in Cali?
  6. I have yet to try Danskos but hear great things...so that will be my next purchase. But during nursing school, I wore KLOGZ. They aren't the best looking shoes but those, combined with support socks, saved my feet and legs on those 12 hours clinical days! They're super soft
  7. I agree with you guys. If the demand for nursing is so high, why are we paid so low? Here in Texas the new nurses don't get paid very much but it seems after you have about a year experience then is steadily increases. I think it also depends on what specialty you are in.
  8. wow! congrats people! I too failed exit HESI the first time around. (I got 818 and need 850) I agree that nerves got the best of me. I look back and realized I made stupid mistakes I will retake it Aug. 21. I also found wher evolve does a review session so I signed up for that! Wish me luck...I need it.
  9. I'mnot sure if you are trying to get into a bridge program or ADN program but when I took the entrance HESI...a while back...it wasn't difficult at all. If you took your pre reqs and know your BASIC math, you should be fine. I think maybe the hardest part might be if you're not confidant on your A&P...review it. I don't remember there being anything in great detail though. Good luck on your journey!
  10. thanks! Ive been studying...I can do it!!!
  11. thanks! I've been using a variety of sources but mainly Saunders. I do wear earplugs but seem to still get distracted when people are moving around and talking loud right next to me. I seem to have problems with the questions that 2 of the answers are right but chosing the BETTER answer is my weakness.
  12. I agree with all of you! I recently took exit HESI and did not get the grade I needed to pass. My college requires 850 on it to graduate, I made 815. It was in a horribly noisey enviornment...and then add in the stress factor! I have a previous degree in another field and feel a bit cheated right now. I passed my classes...and I still don't get my degree because I was a little off on ONE test!?! It's madness, but such are the rules of the game. I will retake it August 21. Any tips on how to do better? I studied the first stage of Suzanne's study tip (still need the second one for NCLEX-RN) and will be attending a review session given by the people who make the exam. I honestly know how all of you feel, I'm in the same boat! good luck to all!
