Our school district offered the Evolve review to us, they actually made it mandatory for us to attend in order to sit for HESI. I found it helpful, the instructor was really good at breaking down the information that I thought was pertinent to passing that exam. Our school also gave us the Sylvia Rayfield review which was EXCELLENT. Sylvia Rayfield is the co author of the Nursing Made Insanely Easy books with all the funny caricatures and pneumonics that really stick in your brain. Theirs was the best review I have attended thus far and I may just pay for it myself and take it again before I take my state boards. Good luck to you on your second try. If I can do it you can too. I scored an 818 on my first time also, and as my post says, I scored a 1032 on the second and final try. It is doable (if that's a word. lol). Just stick with the HESI and Saunders books and you will do just fine. And do questions, questions, questions, I'm sure you have heard that one a million times. And you must have confidence. That's one of the most important factors, just knowing that you can do it, and you can. You didn't make it through nursing school on your good looks. I hope.lol.

No it isn't stupid. Hesi is a comprehensive exam that is supposed to be a predictor on how well a student will perform on the state board exam NCLEX. Each individual school that administers the exam to their students determines the score required for a student to pass. However, Hesi has set an acceptable score (850) and a recommended score (900). According to Hesi which is owned by Elsevier, if a student scores an 850 on their exam they are likely to pass state boards the first time, and if a student scores 900 and above they are very likely (I think the percentage is 98%) to pass on the first try. Some schools just use it as a predictor for their students before they take boards and other schools like the one I graduated from use it as an exit exam.

Yes Hesi is the exit exam required by my school in order to get signed off to sit for boards. My school requires an 870 to pass and only gives students two attempts to take it, and if unsuccessful on both attempts a student must return to complete their entire second year of nursing school again. This was my last try, I failed the first time with only an 818, but this time I studied my butt off and made it out with 1032. I am now OFFICIALLY a new grad. I can't wait to take boards I keep hearing it's a breeze in comparison to HESI.

Thank God. I passed HESI 7/25/2008 with a score of 1032. It was my last opportunity to take it without having to repeat my second year of nursing school. Bring it on NCLEX!!!

I'm no math whiz but for the first problem I came up with 41.6 gtt/min which you would round to 42 gtt/min, and the second part is 125 ml/hr. The second problems I sort of struggled with but I gave it a shot and came up with 2.4 hrs. and 144 mins. Hope it's right let me know if I can help further.

Everyone is entitled to heir own opinion, and as a single parent raising a 10 year old son I am raising him to understand the difference between a good man and a great man. A good boyfriend sees his girlfriend struggle and says here is 20.00 for gas, but a great man sees the same and offers to help out in any way he can. I can't believe some of the posts I have been reading that would say that after 3 years of dating, a young man who supposedly has the extra funds to help his girlfriend who is trying to go to school to earn a better living for herself which I am certain he will reap the benefits of as well, shouldn't help out. There certainly is no financial obligation in this matter but I can't imagine just sitting back watching someone I love struggle to make ends meet knowing that I am in the position financially to help out, whether he is my boyfriend, husband or otherwise. And I certainly couldn't imagine staying in a relationship with someone who has no problem sitting back watching me struggle to make ends meet knowing that he has the financial ability to help. Just because he's ONLY my boyfriend. I don't think so. When you love someone you support them in any way you can emotionally, spirtually, and if possible financially.

I absolutely think your boyfriend should help you out, and if he doesn't do it willingly, find another boyfriend. I say this because I can cetrainly relate to your situation. I was unable to work during my two years at a community college, and much like your school mine did not participate in any student loan programs. I did take out private loans which my boyfriend had to co sign, but they did not carry me all the way through, and where the loans left off my boyfriend of 2 years picked up the slack. You are going to need all the support you can get to make it out with your degee, your license, and your sanity, so I would suggest having a long sit down talk with your boyfriend about contributions he could make to ease the burden a little. After all once you're done you both will reap the benefits of a career in nursing. Good luck to you.

Hey guys, I am new to the community, and I am soon to be a new graduate RN after passing the HESI exit exam. My school only gives two chances to pass the exam, and I was not successful on the first try. Out of the required score of 870, I scored 818. I am scheduled to take it again in July and quite naturally I'm nervous about it. Does anyone have any helpful "HESI HINTS" they can offer? Also my school took version 1 the first time and I'm wondering if anyone knows how it is determined which version we will get next? Please help!!!
