shut off at 100 something
In my opinion, NO, I only had 8 SATA, I cut off at 75 and passed. I don't think it's as much about the question "type" as it is about the question "content". You can have a very high level question that is a multiple choice, and a basic knowledge question that is SATA.

Can somone who has taken Hurst review answer a ? foe me please??
I took the review, and LOVED it!!! There was no real reason other than that was what she thought was best for us. Sitting there, not having a true "end" in sight, is mentally and physically hard on us. She said to take a break just to "rest" and "recharge" basically. I didn't follow the advise though....I didn't think I had been sitting long enough (for me) to need a break. I think she wanted us to know, the breaks are there, so take them. My mind did wonder a time or two, but I focused myself, and I was okay. I would not sit for the whole first two hours though, I would at least take a bathroom break if you find yourself in that position. You will be fine on time, do what is best for you and for your mind. This will be a VERY important day for you, and you need to stay sharp as a tack!! Good luck on your exam! If you have any questions about the review or the book, please feel free to contact me, I just went through it a few weeks ago. Also, the q review is great!!

exam
Most of my questions were priority and application. I had a few SATA. I guess it's normal to feel like this, huh? I don't know anyone who has walked out saying "oh, I did great"!! lol I did to the pearson vue trick, and got the good pop up, just don't know how reliable that is.

Just wondering if anyone experienced failing NCLEX with just 75 questions? I only had 75, and feel pretty rotten about it. I won't get my results until tomorrow.

NCLEX Question Style (Saunders vs. Kaplan)
I think that is key. Know the processes, and be able to look deep into them. The answer that you "know" will most likely not be a choice, you will have to go through the whole process to choose the right one.

Took NCLEX today. Crazy!
What are the other alternate Q's? I had around 8 SATA's and cut off at 75. Did pearson, and got the good pop up. I thought for sure I had failed.....I was thinking SATA were the "highest" level of questions. Are there others?

Took my NCLEX-RN today.........
Was it what you expected or worse? I am just sick right now. Trying to cling on to any amount of hope I can find. I know I have prepared......it's just the unknown, I guess. Thanks for the reply! Good luck to you!!!

Took my NCLEX-RN today.........
Our class took a ATI predictor test. It gave us the "probable pass rate" for the first time taking the NCLEX. It was basically a med-surg 150 q test.

Took my NCLEX-RN today.........
I go to take mine tomorrow. Was it as bad as most of us anticipate? What did any of you use for reviews? Did you happen to take and predictor tests?

1st year nursing student
I think this will make you a better student. You will cross paths with some students who don't care, and just want to get through the day as quick as possible. I graduate in May, and I have had many days like you have. Wondering if what I heard was REALLY what I heard. Just remember, you chart what you see/hear! Don't follow someone else's lead. If you ever have a question, grab another student (that you trust) or better yet the instructor - this will show them how eager you are to learn, and some one on one teaching time is the best! Stay with it, you will feel like a lost dog, and one day, it will all come together and make sense. Now, I'm not saying we will know it all, but things will come together. My instructor told me my "light had come on" over the summer, and it really boosted my confidence! It will come for you too! Good luck to you!

Help with goal for Hopelessness or Anxiety careplan.
Great ideas!!! I can't do knowledge deficit now because we have to do a concept map c that, and our instructor has to be present to witness the teaching in process. I wasn't going to do my paperwork on this pt, but at 0600 he was believed to have renal issues, and I had prepared most of my data on him, and didn't have time to start over c one of my other 2 pts. So, now I am here....with nothing really to do 4 nsg dx on and 2 ncp's. Oh well.....I'll figure out something. All of his tests/labs are WNL, nothing out of the ordinary. I am going to use Impaired Nutrition: Less than body requirements r/t refusal to eat aeb pt states " I am not eating a thing until they let me out of this hospital". He didn't eat/drink anything from the time I got there 0530, until I left at 1800. He was on clear liquid, then NPO for colonoscopy p 0800. He did have diarrhea, but I don't know what to r/t, because he had no problems.

Help with goal for Hopelessness or Anxiety careplan.
Valerie Salva Thanks for your post! I was in the field of hopelessness being "Well, I guess I can't do anything about it now, it's out of my hands". Thanks for the clarification.

Help with goal for Hopelessness or Anxiety careplan.
I agree with you, but our goals have to be measurable and time specific. I don't know how my instructors can measure these. Ex for a pt c pain of 6/10, my goal would be Pt will express pain of 5 or less / 10 by ______(date & time) He told me I was the only one who treated him like he was a person on that floor.....it made me feel good, but sad at the same time. This is a caring profession, at least I thought!

Help with goal for Hopelessness or Anxiety careplan.
Hi, I had a pt the other day who had been waiting for discharge for 3 hours. Literally sitting in his chair clothes on, ready to go. The doc told him he would be going home within the hour. He got very upset, and told a nurse he was going to discharge himself, and she very rudely told him if he did, his insurance would not pay for his visit. He responded by saying something to the effect that the hospital had him then. He was having nothing done, just waiting for the discharge. Long story short, he made the doc mad, she was punishing him by keeping him there. He didn't have the finances to pay the bill s his insurance. I am doing a careplan on him for hopelessness r/t inablity to leave hospital aeb "my hands are tied, if I leave I can't pay the bill, but if I stay, there is no telling how long I'll be here. Today is my wifes birthday, and I can't even spend it with her". Any ideas for a goal? Or suggestions for a better nsg dx?

Test question, just wanted your thoughts
i love your replies. the way you explain the answer helps so much. you really should look into instruction! i know a lot of nsg students who would love an instructor who was a fragment of you! thanks again!!!

Test question, just wanted your thoughts
you made that seem so effortless!!! LOL It really got me...I just knew it was codeine. I guess I was thinking the overuse of antibiotics, and that deferred me from that choice. Thanks!!
-
Test question, just wanted your thoughts
That was my exact way of thinking. It was wrong though!!! I am still upset about it. We are taught Maslow in Fundamentals, following his theory, shouldn't we address pain? Anyway, I chose codeine, like you said, pain and cough, but the right answer was antibiotic.........

Test question, just wanted your thoughts
Pt admitted to unit c T-101.8, cough, and pain rated 7/10. Which med would the nurse anticipate giving first? a) antihistamine b) antibiotic c) Tylenol d) Codeine I can't remember which antihistamine and antibiotic were listed on the test by brand name. I just wondered what you guys would have chosen as your answer.

Nursing Math 109
We worked through the whole book. I am pretty good in math, and helped quite a few in my class grasp the concepts. I still have the book, 4th edition. Let me know what you are having trouble with, and I will try my best to explain it. Don't worry, once you get it, you'll "get it". It seems to all come together. Anyway, I'll be happy to help. Are there specific things you are struggling with? Everyone has there own way with these problems. Maybe I can show you a way that will "click" for you. you can send me a email if you would. I keep my email pulled up all the time. Take care!

Any other ADN schools having retention problems?
Hi all, just wondering if any of you were having the same problems we are in our program. We are 2nd semester, and have already lost 14. Not all were failing, but most were on the verge and didn't want to ruin their GPA. At this particular point, 21 out of the 26 are at or below a 79, and only 5 are 80+. Out of those 5, the highest average is a 83. Is this normal? Out of the 21 more than half are under the 77 cut off. We are no dummies here, we all had A's and B's on pre req's, and this is a competition based entrance. Does anyone else feel like they are teaching themselves? We actually met with the director and voiced our concerns, but I have no idea where that left us. Last semester I did great, as most did. And in all honesty, I don't feel the questions are hard, but as you know, you have to KNOW what the question is asking to be able to answer. I am not failing, but I do not like being close. Do your instructors actually "teach", and then test on what they teach, or is it all up to you? How many chapters do you usually have on your tests? We usually have a test every 2 weeks, some may be 3 weeks, and we have had no less than 24 chapters, and the most I can remember is 44. Do they really expect us to "know it all" as we are told? Thanks for the input~we are all stressing out......... No one expects nursing to be easy, we knew it was gonna be hard and time consuming, and that's fine. We aren't complaining about that, but when you study and study and study, and you get your test back with a fat red 72, 74, 76, etc, it's disheartening!

which is priority in the post-op pt
yeah, I read about that in the book, but I can't remember the other options.....I'll find out Thursday when we get the test back! Thanks anyway
