How is the job market in California?
Did you do foot work too? I've physically went in to numerous units, even where I did my clinical preceptorship, called, left messages, emailed, and nothing. I think if I actually received a phone call from a live human being, I would call back just to thank that person for personalizing that phone call to me. That is how long it's been since I've heard a person's voice. All I've been getting are the massive amount of computerized rejection letters. Arugh back to the grind.

You called the HR department and just asked to speak to the hiring nurse for (blank) department ? I've tried calling, left messages, followed up with emails, and nothing.

Tips from new grads who got job offers
Extremely annoying, but true I have a friend who was hired at Kaiser because her cousin knew the nurse manager and put in a good word for her, and guess what she was hired. It was quick too her cousin talked to the nurse manager and within a week she was scheduled for an interview and hired. It's annoying because I went to check the website for RN positions, and guess what there aren't any listings. So people like us on the outside never even get a chance.

Jobs and Call backs?
^, Thanks for the advice, but I can't walk into the HR dept because I've been applying all over up state, down, east, west, neighboring states. All over, and yes I have tried to target my resume for the hospitals I apply to. I have tried emailing, leaving messages, but all I've been getting is the same broken record speech , "OH Thank you for your interest, but we are looking for someone with more experience." My only hope is one day GOD will hear me, but until then I guess the search continues.....

Laid off, I'm sorry to hear. How many years of experience do you have as a nurse? If you have more than a year you could work through a registry.

New grads working for LTC
I'm hearing such horror stories from new grads working at LTC. Are there any new RN grads benefiting from working at LTC? Plus could you tell me more about patient load, staff/support of other co-workers, how many beds, pay?

California's 2009 New Grad RN Program- Who's hiring right now?
I have spoke to Nurse mangers/HR/ Nursing instructors reguarding this question, and they have told me that you can try, but mostly likely it would be difficult as you can not work under your RN license as a tech. Regarding non-nursing jobs, many of the people I spoke with said that it is not benfitical to work a non nursing job because it's unrelated to our field. They said to try and stick with the medical field as much as possible. I guess your best bet would be try unit clerk, but for those positions many hiring someone who has had a background with years of experience in that field. I too am in your same postion also a graduate of 2008, I feel your fustration. Try volunter work at the local hospital or something, that's what I'm going to try, although I am not sure how it will benfit, I just need to do something, because I'm beyond depressed with the situtation right now. Good Luck

Advice what to do????
I am exhausted from sending out numerous applications, driving handing in apllications, making rounds to Nurse managers offices to introduce myself, and calling billions of stiffs. I graduated in may 2008, super excited to be starting my new carrer as a nurse, as it's my passion to work with people ever since I can remember, but it a has been over a year now and I am at a crossroads in my search now. I don't know what to do, when is it time to give up with the search and start something different? I am poor, jobless and hopeless right could anyone shed some light on this super dark situtation. Thanks, Lost and confused nurse

STILL don't have a job?? Vent here!
My experience has been the same, I went into a nurse manager's office to summit my resume and introduce myself, and He basically said, "I am not interested, even if I was I would not want to hire you." I thought to myself OMG, what did I do? I started to take it personal as if I did something wrong, Although I didn't let him know that he hurt me, I thanked him for his time and to keep my resume on file for future positions, but I could not have ran fast enough out of his office. All I wanted to do was cry. I've got so many closed doors, and have been yelled at by so many HR nurse managers/recruiters that I've become immune. I don't understand how some people are just so rude, don't they understand how it feels, as they were once new grads too? But I have told myself that when I become old I will never treat NG's as how I have been treated.

EKG course before ACLS? Worth the money/waste of time?
It is expensive for a new grad, since you probably do not have a job, but it doesn't hurt to get certified. I don't think you need to take the prereqs, because when I took my class they reviewed all the drugs used and EKG strips, plus most of the material is what you've already learned in class.

California's 2009 New Grad RN Program- Who's hiring right now?
I feel your pain, I've been looking as long as you, and have applied to numerous locations, and nothing. I"m not even sure if knowing someone helps, I've been constantly keeping in contact with the nurse managers where I did my preceptorship and still no jobs. Many places are hiring internally, which is really hard because I don't know what to do at this point anymore. I've been crying, hating myself, and seriously now starting to loose hope. I received so many turn downs it's not even funny, it doesn't even phase me anymore. Can someone help some advice on what to do?

California's 2009 New Grad RN Program- Who's hiring right now?
I'm interested what snf is this?

I can't take it anymore!!!!
I am not going to lie this test isn't easy, but you do what you can, you study prepare for it, call upon knowledge that you have learned through nursing school and give it your all and it will pay off. Try not to listen to your other classmates about this & that about the test because IMO, that only adds to the stress level. Good luck and have faith in yourself.
