Help with care plan please!
I have a patient that I'm having some trouble with. He has a trach so I wanted to do my careplan on that because we just had a lecture on it this past week (plus its the only thing the guy has going on thats significant). I picked ineffective airway clearance for my nursing dx but i can't think of a good long term goal. My two short term goals were to suction the trach and assess vitals for hypoxia and hypercapnia. If anyone can think of a long-term goal for me to add i'd really appreciate it!

To the Original Poster, did you end up picking a school??

LSU BSN
Csmith06, LSU looks at your prereq GPA abjones, LSU considers applicants with a 2.8 or above. However, the usual average GPA for students who are accepted is around a 3.4 or above.... this does not mean you will not get in! make sure you don't have any C's in sciences and if you score high on the NET you have a good chance

Where to Start
volunteer in a department you are interested in.. yea there's no money but most places only require you to work like one day a week so you could get another job if you need one. i also worked in the doctors' offices. you learn some terminology, but better yet, it looks good on a resume that you have worked in a hospital. most hospitals have patient transporters and you dont need any experience for that.

Nursing Help! LSU va CSN
thankyou, i was about to say the same thing! also, you get 2 1/2 years of clinical experience at lsu sooo they have the same amount of hospital experience...so lsu grads can also graduate and hit the floor... im also not hating on charity since thats where my sister went. if i were you i would go tour the schools.

Nursing Help! LSU va CSN
it really depends on personal experience because you either get students who go to lsu or who go to charity so one will not know about the other. the nclex pass rates are practically the same. each school has about the same amount to clinicals so either way you will always get a good bit of experience. lsu is three years so you get more classes and anatomy hs a cadaver lab (the students get to dissect them) and yu get a BSN so you dont have to go back to school. BSN nurses do get paid a little more than ASN nurses but im not sure how much. lsu is one of the top ranked BSN programs in LA. it just depends what kind of experience you want out of nursing school.

LSU BSN
the school is pretty hard so my biggest advice to you would be to buy your textbook early and start reading up a little bit over the summer. phys is realllyyyy hard but i think a new teacher is taking over next semester? either way you will have to study your ass off for it. for anatomy, pay attention in lab!! and for intro to nursing, you need to actually study for the tests! alot of people didnt expect it to be challenging and as a result i know many people who didnt get the grade they expected to. just know you will probably not sleep, and you will probably not have the kind of social life you had before! haha but you make really good friends and its still alot of fun eventhough all you do is study!!

Students not working while going to school....
i had to quit my job when i started my bsn program bc the boss wouldnt work with my schedule at all. instead i got a small nanny job on the side to give me some extra spending cash. also, many hospitals in my area will pay back your loans for you if you sign like a 2 year contract with them. see if there is anything like this in your area

Why do teachers tr to fail you???
teeniebert-- its a public bsn program. many of the teachers do want to help in anyway possible, its just a select few who dont want to give the time to concentrate on certain material or give minute clues as to what the test will primarily be on. i guess that this teacher in particular is more like your rn program

Why do teachers tr to fail you???
first of all, i never said this was every teacher. I said it was my one teacher. my anatomy professor is the most amazing person who is so helpful and he obviously still fails people, but he does it because he has to because i obviously understand that not everyone will pass. this man is VERY different from my phys teacher and im not the only one who thinks this. there was information on the test that we had no idea what it was or we were not instructed to learn. one of my close friends already has a degree in biology and is in the same boat as me. it is not just me who is complaining about this teacher, it is the ENTIRE class and many classes before. even the students with the 4.0s complain about this person. i read my entire text book, have gone to every single tutoring session (which costs money and the teacher doesn't even do it himself) and have study sessions with a group of about 7. and i have a 3.8 gpa so this is not a question about me studying hard enough. I have enough discipline to keep a high gpa then i have enough discipline to study my as* off every single day. he does not provide us with any extra help what so ever. if you try and talk to him he will just laugh it off and say sorry; there is no extra help or tips on how to study better or anything. he leaves the study sessions to a grad student (who is paid alot) and she is the only one who is helpful. she will say things like "he didn't tell you this but you will have to know this for the test" but she doesnt have the test so she doesnt exactly know what is on it. thats just an example that even she knows that he puts things on the test that he didnt teach us. so to 'LiveToLearn' i am one of the students who goes to meet with the teacher even if im not the ones that are failing. i wish i had you as my physiology teacher because you sound like a great instructor. I wish mine was more like you. i have also personally heard him say "yea i know i made that test really hard, i did it on purpose" i dont think this is encouraging students at all bottom line is that i needed to vent about my professor because i have had a very hard week with this class. thanks to everyone who gave encouraging advice.

Why do teachers tr to fail you???
no where in my thread did i say anything about being behind in readings so i have no idea where that is coming from??? also that was the second week of school and i made a B on that test. Thankyou though.

Why do teachers tr to fail you???
people come to this website for HELP not for people to criticize them when they are having a problem. maybe you should try to look at a problem from another perspective besides your own or just don't post. people don't need others to put them down when they are already having a problem! please get off your high horse and try and support your fellow nursing students

Why do teachers tr to fail you???
no i don't want nurses whose teachers made it easy but i would also like a teacher to give FAIR questions. i don't think a teacher should try to fail his students because there are alot of people out there who could be great nurses but someone failed them over something that shouldn't have even been on the test. i studied very hard for that test so NO i don't think i should have failed AT ALL

Why do teachers tr to fail you???
I'm in the worst mood right now because my physiology teacher is trying to fail us!!! i did pretty well on our first two tests (Bs on both) so my average was a high B. then came the cardio test. ugh i did not do so well; i got a 72 (which is failing because a 75 is a C at myNS). We just took our fourth test and before the curve i got a 60!! after the test i heard a student tell him that the test was reallly hard (which it was!!) and he said "I know it was really hard, i made it like that on purpose"...this is ridiculous!! this same teacher failed 30 out of 100 students last semester from physiology! i studied sooo hard for that test and these questions come out of left field! i know my grades probably dont seem that bad but i need a B in phys because i plan on going back to school for my NP. i just dont know what to do because he is seriously trying to ruin some peoples lives. i have my GI test next followed by our final like a week later so i only have those two grades to bring my grade back up. any tips on what i should do about this pain in my as* professor??

How much is too much when your class has uninvited guests?
Okay, if he is disrupting your class and, as it sounds, you are not the only one who thinks hes freaking annoying (i know i would) then I would definetly say something to your instructor. Maybe go see him after class, and Say "can you explain this to me again, I couldn't really understand what you were trying to explain because that second semester student kept interrupting..." or something like that. then you could nicely bring up that you and others find him disruptive and think he should not be coming to your class because he has his own classes! I know what you mean with this situation because I have a girl in my class that does something similar. She is always walking around in anatomy lab (she's not even in our lab, shes in the other lab) asking people if they need help. I have witnessed MULTIPLE times her going up to people and explaining something (eventhough they did not ask for her help), but what she is saying is COMPLETELY WRONG! we can't really say anything to our teacher since she is in our class so I just ignore her when she comes over to our cadaver tank. from the way he sounds, i doubt there is something wrong with this guy, he is probably the type of person that likes to show off...if he does this again i would definetly say something to the instructor or someone else who can do something about the situation

What makes a bad nurse?
i think the top thing that makes a bad nurse is not being able to handle stressful situations or working under pressure. when my step sister mentioned that she was thinking about nursing i laughed bc she freaks out over the smallest things

What would you do? Internship help...
why would you not want the 8hr? many interships in my area are the full 12hr shifts...which is what you will be doing when you graduate. pick the offer that you feel will give you the most experience

How many people quit or flunk out of NS vs graduate?
at my school, last semester 30 people (out of a class of about a little over 100) failed physiology. A few others dropped out as well

Tricky, Tricky question! PLEASE help!
A 25 year old nurse has a blood specimen drawn and sent to the clinical lab. the findings are a hematocrit of 24%, a reticulocyte count of 18%, a hemoglobin concentration of 8 mg/dL and a bilirubin value of 7 mg/dL (normal range is .5- 1.2). Based on these results it seems likely that she has: A. Hypoproliferative anemia caused by erythrpoietin deficiency B. hypoproliferative anemia cause by vitamin B12 or folate deficiency C. Iron-deficiency anemia D. Hemolytic anemia E. suffered a chronic hemorrhage please help if you can!

Things you would love to say to your fellow nursing students!
What I would like to say to fellow nursing students.... Must you call/text me ten minutes after grades are posted to find out what i got...every time??! its my business not yours! do you really have nothing better to do than talk about other people? maybe if you spent less time doing that and more time studying, you WOULD get better grades than me :) stop fighting with the teacher about what is right and wrong and what the text book says. I'd go with what he says because hes been doing this for a long time and he can fail your ass!

Family Rad Tech jealous of me RN student?
wow there must be something about family rivalry... my step sister is an ultrasound tech... she always had this weird tendancy of getting the same things as me (example being the same car!) The same week I started nursing school, she called and asked for my NET book because she wanted to apply to nursing school! personally i think its funny.. it really makes those people look like fools for always trying to one-up everyone

Why do nursing stuents hate eachother??
I know EXACTLY how u feel! I went to nursing school with a small group of friends and now they are all against eachother! ive known them for years and as soon as nursing school came, its like we were back in high school...competing over grades, talking about eachother behind their backs and other immature stuff.. Our class as a whole hasn't grown together yet...I have learned to just ignore it. When they are engaging in childish behavior I just ignore them. I have also made friends with some other people so I like to hang out with them because they are much less catty... Every school has the people who aren't there for the right reasons, these are the people who are doing the stupid acts.

Does anyone else Hate Physiology??
