Good luck to everyone!! Yesterday, I was accepted into the WHNP program!! I'm so grateful for this opportunity and I cried for hours :) ❤️ I didn't receive an email at the time but I logged into the siss portal to check my status. On the right column, "view decision" was displayed. I was using my iPhone so nothing happened when I clicked on it. I refreshed my page and "respond to offer" appeared below "view decision." It then gave me the option to accept or decline the offer of admission! I wish everyone the best!!!

I graduated from my ADN program on December 13th and now I am just waiting on my ATT :)

14 days until my capping ceremony and 15 days until my ADN graduation!!! ??

I will be entering my final semester in August as well!! It feels so unreal and exciting! I can't believe that it is almost over! Good luck to everyone! :)

Thank you hey_suz! I tried to consider that as I try to see everyone's intentions as good. I was really hoping that she was trying to protect me and be honest with me but this is not the first time. I think that the straw has broken the camel's back this time. I have worked in healthcare for almost 10 years (9 years as a cna, 6 as a CMA/Phlebotomist). Over those years, I worked hard to earn certifications and then college degrees to try to further my education in healthcare. Along, the way, she always had something negative to say about them all. I would try to brush it off. I know that nursing is one of the hardest and best things I have ever done. I wish I had of done it a long time ago instead of doubting myself. I left my fulltime job as a CMA to further my education in nursing and now working prn while my significant other supports our family. This is a HUGE sacrifice that I am putting 200% into. I also understand that is hard to find a job in nursing that's why I hope to transfer into an RN position when I finish school since I work for a hospital that my NS is affiliated with. She has seemed to "bash" several other mutual friends' chosen careers as well. I seem to be the only one that just tries to brush it off. Others don't even talk to her anymore because of her negativity. She did the same thing to her sister that has excelled in her career. I honestly think that the problem is that she is not happy with her career choice but finds problems with everyone else's and points them out.

I've had the same problem with a "friend." I was accepted into nursing school at the end of last year and my friend seemed happy for me because she knew how hard and long I had worked to finally get accepted. I never bragged about being accepted ( just mainly cried and constantly thanked God) but since I started in January she would say so many negative things about nursing like " I hear a lot of people don't make it out of nursing school" or "nursing is too flooded so it will be impossible to find a job." I take in what she has to say and never lash out at her, I'm bigger than that. I try to stay positive and optimistic about everything. I have no need to have to explain or defend my purpose in life. The crazy thing is, she always brings up the topic about nursing like asking me about school. Once SHE brings it up, I get so excited to tell her the new things that I have learned or how well I did on my hardest test. A few minutes into the conversation, she starts bashing nursing again : / I try to avoid the subject at all costs but I shouldn't have to feel bad for what is my passion. Time to let those go that want to bring me down, I guess

Can't believe that January 9th is almost here! I can't wait to start!! I'm so thankful, nervous and excited! :)

Hi eligon3, I got my wait list letter in the mail today. They were pretty busy today on the phones....it took me several calls to get through....don't get down just yet :) Try first thing in the morning!

I received my wait list letter this morning and went to the school and turned in all of my required materials. There is still a little hope :)

I'm a current student and I applied for a change of major into nursing. I still haven't heard anything (not an email or a letter)

To be honest, the cheapest route would be a community college. When I took my CNA, I took it at Mitchell Community College and the cost was $60 for my program back in 2003. However, I had one of the local hospitals sponsor me and they paid for the class, books, and uniform. As of this year, the cost is about $200 for the class and around $85 for the book. $600 is expensive. It wouldn't hurt to check around though, as I said, with some of the local community colleges. Good luck and I hope you can get into a class :)

My ACT was 22 and my overall GPA was 3.66 (that's with 76 credits) but my overall for the classes just for the program was 3.0. I was lacking the nutrition course which I will complete next week at another college. I currently have an A and I will definitely finish it with an A. Thanks for the positive words!! I am still waiting on 2 other schools as well but I really want to get into Gaston :)

Yeah, I had spoken to "her" as well. She said that they are mailing out acceptance letters on Wednesday and next week they will send out the wait listed letters :) I wish everyone the best!! As for me, whatever happens, happens :)

Oh yeah and I was $0.85 away from being capped with my pay in my CMA position. I'm only29! Smh lol Violet I will pm you in a bit....

Omg! I loved the aspects of surgery and the procedures, which I was already used to. I loved the school and my peers but VERY quickly realized I that the scrub role alone was not for me. I already worked for surgeons for years and liked that I had the ability to assist with procedures but then actually get to know the patients, give injections, draw blood, get fetal heart tones, etc. I commend ALL surg techs for all they do. I left surg tech school to finish nursing prereqs in time to apply for 3 nursing schools. I loved being a Certified Medical Assistant but I want to KNOW why a patient needs this or that and I want to KNOW how things-such as meds- work with the body system. I've grown tired of being "mechanical." I want to be an educated nurse. I see all of my experiences as blessings and I know they will give me a great understanding of people in other medical positions. By the way I left surg tech school with a 4.0 which I was very proud of even though I left.

I have periodically checked out the NCBON and noticed that many respectable schools here in NC have had their scores to drop to warning status (LPN, ADN, & BSN). There are even schools that are functioning today in NC that have reinstated. I have respect for both Gaston and Queens. I feel biased towards Queens-Presbyterian School of Nursing mainly due to my many years working for Presbyterian Healthcare. However I will be happy with which ever acceptance letter I receive. I have colleagues and friends that graduated from the original Presbyterian School of Nursing before it merged with Queens. I'm currently wailisted at Queens, waiting on another ADN program's response, and waiting on a response from Gaston. Both schools produced remarkable nurses and congrats to those accepted to either school!
