  1. I know nothing at all about medicine. Social science? Bring it on... In any event my first class starts in a month.. A & P. Time to get 1000 3 x 5's I guess. I could not imagine the pressure of ICU. God bless adventure junkies..
  2. Walmart is probably the largest private health provider in the US. Those four dollar scrips have lowered the cost and increased the competition. The marketplace works boys and girls.
  3. It appears that HSC "tracking report" is based on self reporting. Self reporting is a lousy way to gather data. A couple of years ago The Lancet published a so called study claiming mega-deaths in Iraq. Careful analysis revealed that The Lancet used self reporting. The result was about a 400% increase over the actual Iraqi civilian deaths. It may be higher. The study quickly went away.
  4. I went to the website and talk about agenda driven! What some of my liberal brethern are proposing will bankrupt the USA. I just roll my eyes sometimes when presented with communist claptrap. 1 An "insured" level of services reflects the current average use of services under Medicaid or private health insurance for those under age 65. INSTITUTE OF MEDICINE The data does not reflect the demographics of the uninsured! When presented with faulty data a faulty conclusion shall be reached. In other words the opposition is lying.
  5. Have you really looked at the Inland Revenue income tax rates? Are you aware of the hated VAT? On top of the VAT and income taxes there are road taxes, council taxes, death taxes and formely a TV tax! Did you know that The Rt. Hon. Thatcher was binned because of something called a poll tax? Basically a tax on voters with positive vitals:bluecry1: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/ Fortunately for the UK the economy has been strong due to proper monetary policy. Gordon Brown was Chancellor of the Exchequer until the Rt. Hon. Tony Blair stood down. Societies cannot tax their way to prosperity. They need to grow their way to prosperity. That means low taxes, low regulation, and most important of all, proper monetary policy. Universal Healthcare is a public health issue to be sure, and an important one. Costs are spiraling as a result of unlimited demand for a limited service. Allowing market forces to work is the only way to lower the burden on society.
  6. Attack? What attack? Your concerns/logic are misplaced. I provided an example that is accepted as "general knowledge" and pointed out the tone of your response. This is a political sub-forum complete with free expression (subject to the limitations of the mods). Which deaths shall we as a free society worry about first? What action subject to cost analysis shall we take? As smoking and drinking are HUGE killers lowering these deaths will cost the taxpayer very little. The demand for liquor and smokes is very elastic and people have changed their behaviours slowly. Caridio deaths? Another 300k (my numbers will be squishy)? Advocating excercise and diet modification costs very little. Highway deaths? 50k a year? Now we are into higher prevention costs. This is where an insurance company can save a lot of lives. If a region has an unusually high amount of unsafe drivers, raise the rates! It's all about the economics.
  7. Indeed, The key is moral. I am rather sanguine about the protection provided by Samaritan laws however.
  8. Indeed, Free expression is a path to freedom. If you cannot take the heat do not jump into the fire. In any event the response to my simple request for a proper source was silence. Case closed.
  9. It is obvious that you do not understand a darn thing about economics. Healthcare is a business, it is not a right given to us by our creator. Universal healthcare is an oxymoron. Waiting times for the NHS are actually up. The standard for day and ordinary care is 26 f- weeks! A government program to replace private insurance? I would rather pay for insurance than see a government program spiral out of control. I have the choice to self insure or contract my cost. I choose to contract. Taxes are out of control and need to be reigned in. The taxes to support the NHS are in the area of 15%! That is on top of income taxes, council tax, ect in the UK. Those tosspots are sapping the life out of the average working man. I do not want any more of my paycheck being confiscated. As far as the number of people dying for lack of insurance I want a solid source, not something out of prisonplanet.com I find it difficult to believe that one can properly quantify the number. 250k Americans die each year of alcohol related illness. About the same number die from smoking and cardiac events. Where is your concern for them? Oh that's right, you have an agenda, not an actual cause.
  10. My sister is a PA. She drinks like a fish and chain smokes. I have seen her light one from the end of another. A couple of years ago I was visiting her in the Florida Panhandle. In keeping with her tradition she was holding a Budweiser, Marlboro Red in her mouth (she did not bother to take it out as she spoke) giving me "medical advice" on who could take my vericose veins out. That same week she asked me if she needed to lose weight. Being her older brother I gave her my kindest words, "you could stand to lose 20 pounds of baggage". She stalked off uttering obscenities under her breath. In the background my brother in law was snickering. A day later I was setting up a wonderful black and white sunset picture and my wonderful sister proceeds to fly the one fingered salute in the middle of my sunset. Priceless....
  11. I guess you do not remember the so called "swine flu threat". The latest from the "sky is falling" crowd is the bird flu hoax. H5N1 (or whatever moniker) is of no threat to civilized societies. Western nations have clean air, pure water, soap, and good housing. The turd world on the other hand is filthy, but in some cases isolated. Public health is essential to good health, it is time the rest of the world caught on.
  12. OMFG! Who gave you the purple Koolaid? The insurance industry saves millions of consumers billions of dollars every month by allowing them to contract their healthcare costs. Who could do it cheaper? Ozzy Ozborne?
  13. Bollix, or so the phrase goes. The OP is entitled to an opinion, which I do not happen to share. The OP sounds like a Kipper, and that explains a lot.
  14. Diabetics are NOT covered by the ADA. My SO has her masters degree in Human Resources. Diabetics can control their illness... Sorry no cigar..
  15. My sister is a PA who has a mind of her own. She conducts her practice at her own pace (slow) and chainsmokes. She will light the end of one with another.. She has an FY designation rather than one dependent on an employer. As the field seems to be in an expansive mode voting with your feet seems to be the way to go.
