  1. No waitlist. They go by a point system now. You get one shot at the TEAS and they take your first score. You can go on their website and download the point system criteria. They basically break it down by science classes, then core classes, degrees, languages, disability, etc. Nancy
  2. Hi, I am looking to applying for the Spring 2012 session. Can any of you tell me what point totals you go in order to be accepted for that semester? I am just trying to guage where I may be. Also, can you tell me what you got on the TEAS test? Thanks!! Best of luck to you new nurses. Grossmont's program is awesome from what I hear. I am currently volunteering with a grad nurse and she loved it! Nancy
  3. Really, May of 2008? I wonder if the economy has an effect. Maybe people can't afford to quit their jobs and since the government is holding on to the scholarship and grant money, there are more people who can't afford to go right now. That is cool that you did not have to wait long. Nancy
  4. When did you all apply? I am finishing my pre-reqs now (AP2 and Micro) and will be applying in the Fall. Congrats. Nancy
  5. I am starting in two weeks too. We start with the circulatory system. The guy seems a little all over the place. does not use the book, but instead uses his own ppt. According to ratemyprofessor he has a bad rep. But then again, so did the last teacher and I actually liked her and did well. So we shall see. Nancy I can't wait to be done with pre-reqs! One more after this and I am done until I start a program:):yeah::yeah:
  6. Add me to the list of APII people. I work fulltime and this will be my only class. It is all I can handle with two small kids and working fulltime. I hope it is easier. I enjoyed API, but I am not a conceptual person, so physiology was a bit hard for me. We shall see this time around Nancy
  7. I agree 100%:yeah::yeah::yeah:
  8. I am a paralegal and yes I do make decent money. But I have ALWAYS wanted to be a nurse. Sometime I will try to combine them both. I will say, if you like the same ol same ol, paralegal will be that for you eventually. I have been doing this for 15 years and I am burnt out! I am so excited to do nursing. I work full time now, I have two children ages 4 and 6 and I will be in school two nights a week, as well as still working full time. I am doing this for me and for them. I can transfer anywhere, work as much or as liittle as I want, so many different fields to go into. I will be able to be there for my kids in the long run. Remember it is quality time, not quantity. I say follow your dreams. It can be your mom is not supportive because she doesn't have that fire in her anymore. She is tired. It took her a long time to get to that point. She maybe did not like her arena, you may or not may not go into that arena. For every naysayer, there is an ecourager. Still with it! If it is your dream, you deserve it. Nancy
  9. Have any of you ever had Mr. Lowe for A&P II? I need to sign up today for that class. He has a horrible reputation. I have Alagia and she too had a hard reputation, but I am doing well in her class. Granted, I am in the online lecture part. Any advice you can give me on Mr. Lowe would be appreciated. I tried calling the nursing office and the counseling office, but they would not give me any information. Thanks! Nancy
  10. When did you apply? Congrats!!!
  11. Do you already have them all typed out on the computer? Would you be willing to share them? Thanks for the info. I did think of writing stuff out on the back of the test first. Great suggestion.
  12. Wow!!! I have that system up next after endocrine. Can you share any notes or helpful stuff? Thansk!! Nancy
  13. Thank you both. Yes, molecular stuff is a PIA! We will make great nurses, we just need to get there. I will try writing it all out. I don't have the option of different colors on the test, but I know she will make that one of the essay questions. I am good at memorizing which is why I can do good in anatomy, but not physiology, which is concepts. You can know the parts, but if you can't explain how they work together, you are lost!! Thank you for your apology, thank you for your insight, I will try the tricks listed. Nancy
  14. Thank you CT Pixie! Yes, I took Bio in high school in 9th grade (1988) to be exact, so over 20 years ago. I also took Bio in college in 1991 and the structure of bio 120 has changed dramatically since then. The teacher I have for A&P is known to be a high level instructor and is huge on concepts and not just definitions. I appreciate the elaborate explainations by you guys. I am taking this online, working full time and home alone at nights with my kids. So I can use all the help I can get and everyone's different perspectives. Thanks! Nancy
  15. Explain to me in layman's terms cellular respiration and glycosis. The teacher is not doing a very good job and I can't figure out the concept from the book. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Nancy
  16. The sutures on the skull: Crononal: crown of the head Sagittal: down the middle Lamboidal: back of the head between parietal and occipital (lambda shaped, upside down "U") Sqamous: sides Skull bones: Sphenoid: greater wing (part of eye socket), lesser wing (looks like horns), pytergoid process (legs of butterfly) and sella turcica (saddle like and can be seen from the cranial floor) Ethmoid: crista galli (goes on top, pointed); middle bone is perpendicular plate, the sides are the superior and middle concha) Maxilla: top of jaw (remember Godzilla is on top) Mandible: bottom Chin: mental and hole in chin is mental foramen Nasal bones: are just that. Vomer: the bone in the middle of your nose on the bottom Zygomatic: cheek bone (zygomatic process goes off of cheek bone to temporal lobe) Vertebra: Atlas (c1- comes first (world)) Axis (C2)- the world spins on an axis Cerivcal Vertebra: c1-c7 (has small body and transverse formina (circles-cervical) sticking off the sides Body Pedicles- little "foot rests" Transverse process on each side Spinous process (projection off of back - the bone you can feel in your backbone) Thoracic (T1-T12): Spinous process gets "thrust" downwards and is a thicker- looks like a texas longhorn Lumbar (L1-L5) Very thick body Sacrum Base (width on top) Apex (bottom point) Os Coxa (hips) Ilium (make sure you spell this right, because ileum is the small intestine) Iliac crest (top of hip bone Acetabulum (hole where femur goes) Pubis (front part of bottom of hip) Ishium: back part of hip bone) Femur: Greater and lesser Trochanter go in the back Foot: tarsals Talus: ankle Calcaneous-heel Upper Arm: Humerous, Greater and Lesser Tubercle Anatomical neck Surgical Neck Lateral to Medical (lateral epicondyle, capitulum, trochlea, medical epicondyle Ulna: articulates with trochanter and olecranon fossa) Radius: articulates with capitulum on the lateral side (your cap looks radiant outside)
  17. What do you need help with? Is there anything I can do to make it easier to help you know some of them? Nancy
  18. Netters flashcards and mnuemonics (spelling?): For example, the Femur: the fibula is lateral; it is fine outside For the vertebrae: the thoracic vertebra's spinous process thrusts down The atlas (world) sits on an axis (c1 and c2) The ulna and radius: Radius and humerous bone: your cap looks radiant outside (the radius articulates with capitulum and is on the lateral side) I have more, but not time right now. I just took this test yesterday and feel pretty good about it. Also, look at Body Smart .com for some quizzes that helped. Oh, The sphenoid bone: looks like a butterfly, has greater wings, smaller wings and pytergoid process (feet) and a saddle (sella turcica)
  19. NEED HELP ASAP!!! Anyone who was emailed the spreadsheet by BusyMomof4 on the tissues, can someone please email it to me. You can private message me or attach it here. I have a test today on it and I left the sheet at home. I am leaving here at 1:00 p.m. CA time. Thanks!!! Nancy
  20. The sella turcica is the saddle at the top of the sphenoid bone. It can be seen when looking at the crainal floor from a superior view. The hypo... is the floor of the saddle. Make sense? Nancy
  21. Not to worry. Every little bit helps in one way shape or form. It is good to get things from other people's prospectives. Thank you for sharing. I hope to do the same, once I find out if I am on the right track or not. Nancy Good luck on your bones. I love the bones!
  22. oh, can you email me too? . Thanks:) I have a test on this on Monday night. Nancy
  23. Me too. I have a test on Monday. I haven't had much lab time to review it first hand since I work full time. We also have the 206 bones (about 100 on the test). I have a pretty good handle (as far as I can see) on the bones, lets just hope I don't freeze up. Thanks!2 Nancy
  24. I am right there with you. I too have an AS in Criminal Justice and have a decent job. I work full time, have two kids under 6 (5 1/2 and 4) and am home alone at night. I take A&P I online with in class labs. I am struggling a bit with study stuff in chemistry. I can't really get together with study groups, because I have my kids. Kids and studying do not go hand in hand! You are lucky that your husband is supportive. Mine is in the only sense he says "do what you want". He will pick up the slack, but will definately hold it over my head later. He doesn't understand wanting to be a nurse and leaving a career that pays well when all is going well. I wanted to do this because it is now or never. The longer I wait, the longer it is until I am a nurse. You can do this and it will be worth it. It just takes perseverance and patience. I am having to give up a few soccer games and a few practices, but in the long run it will be worth it. Best of luck to you. Nancy:yeah:
  25. Thank you both. I will respond more later. But it is good to know that there are some out there that are having the same problem. The ones I messed up on are the covalent bonds, extra electrons and the PH, which I put H atoms rather than ions and negative feedback. The question was the cold draft causing a person to shiver. I put negative, but the answer was positive? I don't get it. Thanks!! I don't have a PM name/login? Any info there, I would love to "study" with you guys. Our teacher is so big on chem that she has divided Chp 2 into three weeks! Wow! Thanks for the Histology website. I think I have a good handle on it, but it should be interesting when she introduces it to us on the test! Nancy
