Hi, I am presently working full time with The Ottawa Hospital. Althoughm there are lots of required readings to be done, visits to library, discussions, quizzes, term papers. However, I found the course doable. Studying online requires a lot of discipline, setting aside some hours each day to study; drawing a study plan and sticking to it. One also have to consider family committments and some other factors.

Hi, Currently, I am in the Durham College Critical Care e-learning program and I am enjoying it. I am pursing the program in other to gain access to a critical care unit. I am working presently in a nephrology/medicine unit of a tertiary hospital and most job advertisement into the ICU unit require some years of ICU experience or certification in Critical Care. Moreover, this course provides opportunity of learning about some "stuffs" that happen in ICU, and thus prepare one both knowledge-wise and emotionally for assignments in critical care units.

Hi, I am also interested in starting the program tentatively in September. Do you know of any other institution in Ontario that offers the program through distance learning aside Durham college? I am also working fulltime and I believed I can cope. Thanks in advance

I guess is only the 6 months NGG program now. This morning, I received a call from the Human Resouces department asking me if I am still interested in the position. I am yet to give them an affirmative answer because I am confused about which offer to accept.

I sorry to hear that your Dad is NOT supportive of your plan. I also got an offer with Sunnybrook and I am at a crossroad whether to accept the offer and stay in Toronto or to move. Anyway, my prayer for you is that God should continue to lead you in His way.

Congratulations on the offer at BC. I am also an Ontario RN-to-be (June, 2009), and I am considering accepting a job offer outside Toronto, but within Ontario. What are the reasons why you are nervous about the movement? You wrote that your parents seem not in support of the move. Have you tried to talk to you father about the reason why he does not want you to move to BC? Are you yourself convinced that the offer at BC will give you more opportunities both in your personal, professional, social and spiritual lives? As a adage says "when there is a will, there is a way". All that matters now is your personal conviction. Once that is settled, try to talk to your parents. They may see reasons with you and give you their blessings. Good luck.

There is no program that bridges PSW to RN. The gap two professions are damned too wide. Moreover, a certifcate in PSW is not recognised for RN-BSN program.

I did Community Health Nursing in the third year of my nursing program. From what I learnt, Community health Nursing comprises of Public Health Nursing and Home Health Nursing. In summary, Community health Nursing is like an umbrella. Nurses can choose to be a Public Health Nurse or a Home Health Nurse.

It is obvious that a 220-v electrical appliance can not be plugged into a 110-v electrical outlet. An option is to buy a converter with the instrument. This may not be cost-effective and can make the appliance too cumbersome for use. I think it will be more economical and less stressfull o purchase those equipments here in Canada

I can confidently tell you that Humber RN program is one of the best in Ontario. Presently, I am in my final year of the program (RN). Within my three years in humber I have been exposed to many areas of nursing both in the clssroom and in clinicals. I have been opportuned to do my clinicals in this sequence: a Long term facility, O&G at Humber Rivers, School placement at Highfield Elementary, West Park Rehab, Toronto Gen.(psychiatry), A project with a neighbourhoodfor Comm.&Pop. Health, Toronto Gen.(Cardiovascular unit), and William Osler Memorial and still expecting more in my final year. With all these clinical experience, one can easily link classroom theory to practicals and gain better understanding of all aspects of nursing. In terms of clinicals, Humber has an edge over other nursing schools in Toronto. Some students do complain that Humber workload is too much, but all I can say is that the school adequately prepares one for the challenge that lies ahead. Therefore, I am encouraging you to go for it.:wink2:
